First stop of a food crawl in Brooklyn Yummy goulash, pierogies were okay. We shared a lunch special. Service was a lil slow.

Stopped in for lunch after eyeing this place for quite some time. Omgosh it was a delight! The jalapeño pierogis are incredible. We got them pan fried and they were crispy on the outside but perfectly fluffy and tender on the inside. We also got the kielbasa served with cabbage and sauerkraut. Everything was delicious!

Pleasantly surprised by this shop! I walked in expecting overpriced and small portions and instead received hand made, fresh, filling servings of pierogies. We got the jalapeño fried and the bacon cheddar boiled. Will definitely be back to try more flavors!

Food and plastic. I only ordered one of the two.

Wow, this was tasty! I had not been back at this place in a very long time and was really taken by the quality of the food. So good! 4 stars. But only 1 star for serving food in plastic. WHY PLASTIC ??? I don't want to eat plastic. Why not put the apple sauce and the cream on the plate? Why would that be a problem? And if the obsessive-compulsives of this word really have to have the applesauce and cream separated, they can ask for it. And the restaurant can use metal cups for that purpose. Please stop serving plastic to your customers and stop trashing the planet. PS: Service was very, very pleasant.

I came here a while back with my boyfriend since we were in the area and found this place ! We got the fried schnitzel balls, pierogis, and Mac salad. They had a deal of mystery pierogis so we got that and it was really fun! I think we ended up getting sauerkraut, Mac and cheese, and potatoes. Outside of the food, the staff was nice and friendly, and vibe was cute. I was a well-rounded place and would like to come back!

We had the mystery pierogies, crunchy chocolate pierogies, and golden beet salad. It was all good. The crunchy chocolate tasted just like Nutella. My wife only dislikes that the whipped cream was basically butter. But I don't mind whipped cream that whipped. It was all so fulfilling and yummy.

Super cute small shop of delicious homemade delicate pirogies. Loved the beet salad and in particular the jalapeño cheese filled. Great service and nice vibe!

The word "slider" appearing on a menu could set off a Fusion Warning alarm, but even if a few descriptions hint at Sackett St. rather than Slovakia, this is clearly a powerhouse of Eastern European flavors. The cabbage soup is an excellent kielbasa-fueled concoction. The Prince Albert pierogis have an intense hit of black garlic. Will certainly be soon. As a fan of gambling and randomness, I'm sure to check the "mystery" pierogi combo.

pierogies are solid but wish there was a bit more variation in the flavors offered. we tried a few flavors but everything tasted like some combination of potato and cheese with trace amounts of other flavor. my favorite was the bacon cheddar even though i usually enjoy trying new flavors. at about $2 per pierogie, it was a bit underwhelming and it wasnt as filling as id hoped. might just be too easy to compare them to dumplings which are bigger and a third the price.

This spot takes top for my favorite pierogi's I've had in NYC. Amazing classic AND unique filling options, perfectly chewy but slightly crispy outside. The latkes were also delicious. Lunch special is the perfect amount of food and a great way to sample their menu. I also loved the vegetable soup and I'm not even a big soup fan. I wish they delivered to my house! So so so good.

Food was great! Maybe our choices for boiled sauerkraut pierogis was the wrong choice, and maybe we should have chosen the applesauce for our dip, but otherwise it was good. The restaurant was pretty on the inside and the server was super nice.

Baba's Pierogies are honestly really good, plus the service is fantastic as well. I got the mystery bag and liked every single flavor I got. However, my favorite would easily be the spinach and feta. On top of this, the server is an absolute doll (forgot her name but she has bangs and is a gem). I will definitely be going back if I'm in the area and might grab some frozen ones to go as well.

We were craving pierogies & this was the best place to fulfill it! We ordered many things to share: 1) Baba's Potato Pierogies (one of their signature pierogies, boiled), 2) Bacon Cheddar Potato Pierogies (fried), 3) Sloppy Kielbasy, 4) Schnitzel Bites, 5) Lemonade drink. Baba's Potato Pierogies (boiled) - This is one of their signature pierogies & it was honestly super divine! This was the best pierogie I have eaten! The potato & american cheese melted in your mouth. Highly recommended! Bacon Cheddar Potato Pierogies (fried) - This was one of their top sellers & it was very delicious! It tasted like bacon cheddar and potatoes. But the star was that baba's pierogies!! Sloppy Kielbasy (pork sloppy joe on brioche bun, that comes w/ a side of fries + your chose of a small salad of beets or cucumbers). I always loved sloppy joe as a kid & I was craving it so I got this to try it. Their sloppy joe was on the sweeter side (I like it more savory/saltier). The bioche bun was so soft and delicious + that fries was amazzzing!! I would just order a side of that fries next time! Super crunchy on the outside & soft and mushy on the inside! I chose the small salad of cucumbers & it was very vinegary & refreshing. Schnitzel bites (ground pork + chicken breaded and deep fried, comes w/ a small side mac+cheese salad) - It was not as flavorful as I would have wanted it to be, but definitely super meaty to eat. The mac+cheese salad was delicious. Lemonade drink - The lemonade was good, but a bit on the diluted side so it tasted like watered down lemonade. The staff was very friendly & nice. There are a few tables for indoor seating. Highly recommend the baba's pierogies & the french fries!!

Would you consider doing online long distance ordering?

No, these are to be appreciated in the cafe/restaurant. I asked when we were there, about bringing some home, and was told matter-of-factly that the quality would be comprimised.

Do they deliver? And if so, how far from the restaurant are they willing to deliver?

I know they deliver, how far that I'm not sure.

Food came pretty quickly. Our seats had a great view of the staff working in the kitchen. The potato pancake was very crunch and tasteful, a bit on the salty side but paired well with the breakfast plate. Tuna melt was the main event, and it was as creamy as I imagined. It sounds like it might be too sweet, but it's actually perfectly balanced. I'd honestly return just for those. The omelet was cooked to medium perfection, soft and fluffy. We also ordered the wienerschnitzel, and while the portion was big, the flavor was even better. I do think they should have added a little more lingonberry jam on the side. If you have kids in tow, and potentially picky eaters, I'd try another place. I brought my family of five out of the Brooklyn cold to check out this relatively new space, when a couple local brunch places were at capacity. We were warmly greeted and well attended. We tried: - Pain Perdu (French toast) - Buckwheat Duck Crepe - Torn Pancakes - Side of thick bacon - side of potatoes/speck While my family has spent quite a bit of time in the French/Swiss area, I can say this missed the mark for us. The French toast was promising with crème anglaise but was liberally dotted with bitter berries and a slight hint of Bernaise that I wasn't sure was intended. The result was a confused experience of savory, bitter and sweet that left us wanting. The duck buckwheat crepe was in a word, dry. Nice concept with a duck egg and confit, but no real flavor across the entire dish, with only the yolk to give some needed sauce to the dish. The thick cut bacon was actually three 1/4" thick slices of pork belly that was served more like ham, liberally seasoned with whole cloves... which honestly detracted from the ham. If you're thinking of traditional bacon, you may be surprised by this. The bacon might succeed if cloves were not so heavy or prominent, and a strong sear was done on all sides. The potatoes were our favorite of all the items, but again were too seasoned with whole cloves for our liking. The surprise numbing bite into a clove was not a good one. In closing, so much potential here, and perhaps we came on a day where the kitchen staff was light (it was New Year's Day). Other older diners seemed to be enjoying their drinks, and again, the vibe is super cozy. But, it feels like a kitchen/staff tasting day might offer some tweaks that could help dial things in. I'd also suggest a small (perhaps off menu) less eclectic set of children's options, unless they are looking to avoid the family vibe.

I first heard about it several years ago when…read morethey first opened in the Arthur Ave neighborhood - standing out as a traditional Albanian restaurant amongst the sea of Italian eateries. Fast forward to the present day, and they have gained considerable attention. The restaurant has made the NYT's Top 100 Restaurants in NYC list for the past 4 years, they have expanded to two (soon three) other locations, and is a favorite among the social media and celeb crowd (this is allegedly one of Dua Lipa's favorite restaurants in the city). That being said, we thought it would be a great spot to celebrate a family member's birthday - so I booked a table and off we went. Çka Ka Qëllu is located on Hughes adjacent to the back entrance of the Arthur Ave Retail Market. The restaurant is gorgeous - it's pretty spacious with three main dining rooms. The decor is a showstopper in itself - the exposed stone walls coupled with the abundance of artwork and old world accents placed throughout the dining area make this seem more like a museum than a restaurant. The ethnic music that is piped throughout the restaurant completes the feel. I honestly couldn't stop looking around. There menu is pretty expansive - most of the items I had not heard of before, but it's also approachable as they spell it out for you in the description what each dish is. We were a party of seven, so to make things easy we aligned to share everything. My brother and I decided to take lead and order items from each section. We decided to start with the ajvar, sausage dip, and tarator. These were all delicious; essentially dips, they all had great flavor and were paired with hot crusty bread mmmm. We then got a bunch of other dishes: leçenik, burek, fili, fasule with smoked meat, mantia, mazë e zier, and a shop salad. As with the dips, everything here was delicious. It's hard to pick the standouts because everything was so good - honest food, full of flavor and depth. Okay you twisted my arm - if I had to choose, my favorites were the burek and the mazë e zier. I love a good burek, and this one was top drawer. The pull on the mazë e zier was out of this world, yet it was easy to maneuver with great flavor. We ended the meal with one of their grilled dishes - namely the mixed meat combo. We chose five meats and they paired them with some vegetables and potato. At risk of sounding like a broken record - this was delicious as well. Service was awesome - everyone was welcoming and the food came out at a good pace. Overall, Çka Ka Qëllu is an absolute yes - the food, the decor, and the service were all aces. The hype is real and they deserve all the accolades they have received. Goes without saying, but I would definitely return for another meal - take me back now!

First thing you'll notice upon entry is how absolutely decorated it is. If you're a fan of Witcher, it's like walking into an an old-timey tavern. If you have no idea then-- it's like an old-timey tavern. I wouldn't be surprised of they had bard Fridays and homemade mead. It's also a big space. Reminds me of one of the last remnants of the bygone era that was the Obama-era glow. Like peak millenial where restaurants were starting to get viral but not to the point where they have to hyper compete with a gimmicky dish. The prices are a bit steep and was making me consider dropping my rating down a star but fuggit, I like their food. I played it safe and got the mixed grill meats but that's because I lack reading comprehension and thought the main dish (I don't know what it's called, it's just the 1st entree listed) was a baked meat pie situation, it was more grilled steak on a bed of mash potatoes but these mash potatoes were savory like gravy. I wish I got my friend's dish. The mixed grilled meats were a lot closer to doners or skewer meat. Different cuts but also different flavors. What they had in common was a sort of spice-forward sizzling taste. My friend got two appetizers (which I also don't know the name of) but were definitely the most beautifully presented foods I've had in a long while. They were both creams but one had a pepper in it (not the spicy kind). The pepper one was a light refreshing sourness and the other was a heavier but not heeeeavy savory one. Both great to dip your bread in. I wanted to try the lemon cookie for dessert but my friend got us all Tres Leches by accident. That was great but I would say the most non-novel out of everything we got. Delicious, just not something out of the norm-- which is what I go for when I'm trying a new cuisine like Albanian. I wouldn't say this is normal day-to-day Albanian (I have a few friends), it's more like the Americana equivalent, an upscale where Albanians go out to eat.

The inside looks and feels like a tavern, and there was the typical no-nonsense staff you find in Central and Southern European restaurants. They have a very reasonably priced beer menu, especially on tap, and I got a BrouCzech Dark for $7 for half a liter, with a 1/3 liter option for $5, with the other tap options being the pilsners Czechvar and the more standard Urquel. They gave us some free bread to start, before our very heavy shared meal. The first thing to arrive was the Boiled Perogies, consisting of 12 pieces for $25, topped with bacon and sour cream. I usually slightly prefer the fried version, but these were very tasty. It wasn't super doughy compared to most spots, and it had a nice filling. As per usual, the dumplings, which were a bit rich, were balanced by the sour cream. In short, I preferred these over the boiled pierogi from Karczma, among other spots. While we were eating, another smaller plate arrived, the Broiled Klobasa for $13, served with horseradish sauce. I am very particular about sausage quality, as my old hometown has a butcher shop that makes 25/30 homemade products, including many sausages, and this was very tasty. The klobasa had a good smoky flavor and had a good snap. The horseradish, mustard, and pickles on the side helped with the richness. I would recommend this also. For most people, their favorite dish of the evening was the Halusky for $27, or potatoes spaetzle with sheep cheese, topped with bacon. As per the other dishes, the portion size was very generous. The spaetzle had a good texture, and the dish was quite rich, creamy, and salty from the cheese and bacon. This version was comparable, if not better than, the excellent versions at the various Eastern European spots in Manhattan, and I would recommend this as well. Our least favorite dish by a lot was the Pork Schnitzel for $28, made with a potato pancake batter and topped with cheese. This came with a salad and a side item of our choice. The salad was very plain but fresh, with some potatoes and pickled vegetables on the side. The schnitzel lacked a bit of flavor and salt compared to the other dishes. This was the only miss of the evening, but it was still decent as the chicken had a nice breading. Next time, I would probably try their Svíčková, or in other words, beef and cream sauce, to compare it to Spirit and other dishes, such as the roast duck, if it's hopefully available as one of the specials. This was an above-average spot serving a less common cuisine, and I would recommend it.
