One of our favorite places and our "go to" for burgers and wonderful lunches. Start with their absolutely delicious cheese curds and you have to try the chicken quinoa bowls or the smash burger or the chicken schnitzel -- actually Anything we've ever tried is delicious and fresh and sooooo good!! We can't wait until we can eat inside again and enjoy their lovely dining room, but until then -They offer take-out and have the process down to a science. I used to live in downtown Lombard and one of my favorite things was to walk to Babcock's. Every small downtown needs a restaurant like this. The staff are friendly and helpful. The owners seem really great too! Our favorite dish is the chicken schnitzel sandwich, so much so that it is hard to order anything else! But when we do we have never been disappointed. I hadn't been there in a while, long before COVID. I called in an order for a burger, and the server was kind and unhurried. I rode my bike up the prairie path, picked up my takeout, without a hiccup. It was great to see so many diners enjoying the outside space. This is a great place with great people and great food. Did takeout tonight. We had heard good things from friends but never tried Babcocks ourselves. Un-freakin-believable. The cheese curds were fluffy with a very light breading. The Bourbon Bacon Chicken pie was loaded with meat (not to mention flavor). And the blue cheese sriracha meatloaf is a must have. This will not be the last time we eat there. read more

My family and I have been to Babcock's many times and we absolutely love the food! However, my experience tonight was less than pleasant. We were served by Luke who was one of the worst serves I've encountered. He took very long to approach our table and when he did, he acted like we were a burden... not how you wanted to be greeted at such a wonderful, family owned restaurant. Furthermore, he only checked on us once and my daughter had to go her entire meal without a refill of water. To top it off, we paid in cash and I told Luke I needed change back. We waited for close to 20 minutes before I waved him over and he thought the change was his tip... the change was close to half the price of our meal. Love this restaurant but very disappointed by the service tonight. I will be asking for a different server if I ever encounter Luke again. read more

Went here yesterday for lunch, just looking for someplace new to try this was great! They give you a menu and you can sit wherever, but have to go up front to order and pay. You get a number to bring back to your table and then are served your food. It was ready quick! Great because I was starving. Servers did come and check on us and refill drinks. I got the chicken schnitzel on a pretzel roll with mustard and lingonberries. It was delicious and came with a hefty side of fresh cut fries also very tasty. To drink I got the cold pressed lemonade, I thought it had a funny after taste but eventually got used to it. But I would definitely come here again! read more

We just discovered this place. Love it! Wonderful historic ambience in the heart of downtown Lombard. My husband got a burger and loved it. I got a spinach- quinoa salad that was superb. Where do I start....it was just great! Great spin on traditional foods. My wife had the Gouda Buger and she raved about it....I got to try a morsel, which was great! I had the pork schnitzel which was awesome. The Mashed potatoes and roster veggie complimented it very well. I liked the fact that the pork was sliced thin, not tenderized like other places. It had a little more chew to it, like a real piece of meat, which made me happy. We had the pretzel with 3 different dips, it also was very good. All the food came out hot and very well seasoned. The service was excellent. The owner Steve stopped by to see how everything was which was nice. Seating was comfortable decor was nice. Beer, wine and drink selection was extensive. This place makes me so happy to live in Lombard. The food is delicious. The ambiance is warm and delightful. But most of all, this place is such a wonderful celebration of Lombard as a community. It's in the heart of the downtown area, which is, in this biased person's opinion, the best downtown around. Babcock's Grove House is in a restored historic building. They've preserved many original features, and a lot of the decor highlights cool things about the history of Lombard. They make delicious hand made desserts and pies, different ones every day, and post about them on Facebook. Also, the cutest thing of all: the owners seem to really genuinely love Lombard and want it to thrive. They're committed to investing in the community. They celebrate the opening of other new restaurants in the area, and they wish those owners success, rather than treating them as competition. I'm really grateful to have a place like this, and to live in a community where places like this can thrive. read more

Just had the best dinner I've had out in a while! The WI beer cheese & giant pretzel was an amazing starter. They have a good selection of beers & craft sodas. I had root beer which was fantastic. Now what can I say about the Smashed Potato Burger, doesn't sound like much, but I ate the whole thing. First impression was cute corner joint. Just so you know I don't do these reviews unless I am really impressed. Not only was service great the food was delicious. I got the potato smash burger which is smash potatos on the burger toasted buns. I can't remember the last time I had a burger this good. Gorgeous place with wonderful food. Large wine selection. I had beer and they had decent options. The best part is the food, though. The chef/owner has a knack for taste and he can just make ordinary dishes taste absolutely wonderful. I had humble things like the cheese curds (light and flakey) and the smashed mash burger (delicious, flavorful) with a side of greens... BEST balsamic dressing I have ever had, and I am at best lukewarm to that flavor profile. This person knows how to cook deliciously. This only comes with experience. Great job!
