Place was packed on a Monday night and by 11pm, more people showed up. Reminded me so much of NYC. We sat down at the bar and bartender was prompt and helpful. I ordered a mezcal margarita and he had a wheat style draft beer. Conversation locked in sync just as we had been years ago, drinks went by quick and before you know it, it was time for round 2. He had a Jameson on the rocks and I went with a smoky mezcal on the rocks. He was hungry and ordered a chopped cheese, reminiscent of NYC but no idea if it was good, but he polished it off quick. Jukebox was playing and we both weren't exactly excited by the music, but sometimes good conversation and staring into the eyes of your former special someone drowned it all out. Needless to say, I will remember this place for a long time to come. We headed out into the warm Phoenix night, clear, dark and while not drunk from the drinks, I was intensely buzzing from what suprises would unfold, it always ends in trouble, especially with this all too dangerous hunky beefcake. Part of the appeal here is the permanent taco truck outside, which I know from past visits is excellent, and I love the truck's outspoken, unapologetic support for immigrants. That said, the cocktail itself was excellent. I was specifically looking for a coffee-based drink before heading to another event, and the Cambures al Estilo Foster delivered on flavor. It was tiny, though--served in a small stemmed glass, gone in a few sips. It did the job, but some may find the portion underwhelming for the price. No major complaints, but nothing pulling me back either. I'm adding a fourth star on a bit of a hunch--I'd like to think they can dial it back in if I return.

The setting -- a vintage historic warehouse in the heart of Phoenix's lower Grand Avenue arts district -- gives it a soul that's hard to find anywhere else. If you can make it on a First Friday, the live music takes the whole experience up another notch. Add in a dog-friendly patio and retail beer to go, and there's truly nothing missing. Today, I was walking around near the ASU Downtown Campus and came across Seamus McCaffrey's. I gave it a try for lunch and enjoyed some tasty food and great service. While I didn't grab a drink, I'd certainly consider meeting friends after work there another time. I walked into the bar, and I was literally behind the bar where is was quite dark. Many of the bar seats were taken though I stepped into an area behind the bar where there were a number of open tables where I could seat myself. There was yet another room further back with booths and some creative decor, though I was happy with a table near the bar. The server came right over and made some great suggestions and introduced herself to me. She checked on me multiple times during the meal and made sure I liked what I picked. I ordered an item off the Traditional Favorites menu, the Chicken Pot Pie, which consisted of tender shredded chicken, peas and carrots smothered with herbs in a creamy white gravy under a flaky puff pastry. It also came up with a cheese stick. Both were tasty yet not too filling as I expected. There was a light breaded top to a bowl and then no bread on the bottoms or sides, but that was alright as I didn't need an over-the-top dish for lunch. While the prices are a bit higher than I would have expected them to be, it was certainly worth it, and I'll be back again. Seamus McCaffrey's opened in 1991 and brought a real Irish pub to Central Phoenix. It is a family-run bar that serves Irish classics and pub favorites. From Boxty, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips along with stacked sandwiches, burgers, and starters, the menu is not huge but still feels like it has a bit of everything. They have live music on the weekend and host special events throughout the year. The biggest celebration is its annual St. Patrick's Day street party on Monroe, a Downtown Phoenix tradition filled with great beer, great food, and a whole lot of green. The bar and hotel lobby didn't have bug spray nor any for sale. The nearby liquor store does have some for sale at less than a block's walk. (The pool is hot mid Phoenix summer. PROS: -All of the drinks are really pretty, visually, and with the pool, you have a great mecca for social media photos. -Despite the ridiculous 110+ Phoenix heat, we were relatively comfortable in the shaded restaurant area with the misters. We could still see the pool, but we weren't baking alive. -Pool bathrooms were clean enough. There were lots of puddles and toilet paper on the ground, but nothing was horrific or moldy like some pool bathrooms can be. Spacious stalls for changing too - though I didn't see any shower or changing areas. -The pool area itself is pretty! It makes for gorgeous Instagram photos, and Lylo knows that. There are lots of little spots (a camp sign, a chair off on its own, all the loungers, etc.) that make cute photo backdrops in addition to the pool itself. -There is a collection of inflatable pool toys in the corner that seem to be open for guest use. CONS: -Water bottles are not allowed at all - not even sealed disposable plastic ones from the grocery store. They'll store them for you, and you can fetch your own water with disposable plastic cups while you're here. -The misters in the pool area were broken. With the heat, we chose not to actually use the pool, and instead stayed in the restaurant, shaded area with misters. -All of the on-menu drinks are pretty sweet and not super boozy (at their price points). It's easy to go through quite a few at their higher price. Make sure that you're spending intentionally. -We weren't in love with the food we ordered. It felt like frozen food reheated and served to us. To be fair, that's about to be expected from a pool bar, but it was still something to note at the prices and with nearby restaurants walkable. -Service is there. I wouldn't say it was friendly or welcoming, but the servers checked in often in-between talking to people in swimsuits or joking with friends. I rarely waited for anything, but I didn't feel like a valued guest. -The fabric of the chaise loungers and lounge beds are stained. I saw some employees hauling off some of them and shoving them into the back of a fabric cleaning van, so I'd assume they rotate in and out and have to deal with a ton of spilled drinks.

If an event is going on there is a long line that usually the wait is over an hour in the hot sun. I have been there now 3 times for events and each time it has been miserable due to long lines (food, entry, restrooms, and drinks). RSVP and reservations in my opinion should be first of the line or at least a separate line.. I would say they aren't accessible here. There are stairs everywhere and not enough ramps. Bathrooms especially aren't accessible to get to but they do offer accessible bathroom stalls. What I love about the pemberton when you go and there is not an event going on it's really nice. You have a lot of space and a variety of food to choose from. They have amazing themes that go along with their food and art. They have a restaurant with 2 stories two bars. Another thing I love is their pool! Such a fun time and a great way to have a cocktail!
