The pastries at Bachour at are absolutely wonderful. One of my favorite dishes is lomo saltado, but it is only served for lunch. The alfajores are unparalleled. I suggest you NEVER order the mussels. Both my lunch companion and I both got sick on them. They were the only thing we ate. It spoiled the vacation that I was leaving on the next day. It isn't often that I give a 3-star review, and it may be skewed because I didn't order food, but what I DID order was underwhelming. I knew I'd be in the Coral Gables area today so I decided to give Bachour a try. There is street parking available and luckily I found a spot only a block away (just something to keep in mind, I didn't see a parking garage directly by the restaurant but I could be wrong). The entrance is pretty, but when I walked in, the hostess had a total RBF and she wasn't polite at all. I didn't catch her name but the guy in front of me dropped his sunglasses so I went to pick them up and I guess she got annoyed because when she said "how many?" I didn't hear her since I was grabbing the glasses. She rolled her eyes at me and sat me down outside and walked away, super poor customer service. However, my waiter, Rodrigo was SO SWEET and so helpful, he's truly the only reason why I gave this spot even 2 stars. I only dropped in for coffee (I got a cortadito) but I decided to grab 2 bonbon's (sea salt caramel and milk chocolate passion fruit), and a cookies and cream macaron. The cortadito was pretty bad, I can't lie. Most of my reviews lately are for coffee and this one was mediocre... nothing made the coffee special... it was pretty bitter, no special presentation, just blah. The bonbon's were okay, nothing to rave about (they look better than they taste), and the macaron was yummy and fresh (the only reason why they got the 3rd star). I don't even care to write about the beautiful food plating or pretty pastries that Bachour offers. None of that matters when food handling by servers is non-existent. Fast forward to me and my colleagues ordering salmon benedict. A server (not our waiter who took our order), with what I presumed to be our food, came out and walked to every table around OUR table. I didn't ask or suggest if that was our food because someone else could have ordered the same items -- in hindsight, I should have said something. The server goes back into the kitchen, comes back out with the same two plates of salmon benedict and goes to another table where two ladies are sitting. This is where it gets good! The server places the two plates of salmon benedict in front of the two women. I mean, the two women would know if that's what they ordered, right? About 3 minutes went by, and the server comes back out, realizes he placed the two salmon benedicts at the wrong table, picked up the plates and serves those two SAME plates that have been passed around to the proper individuals -- me and my colleague. Are you still following me? So, when those two plates that have been passed around landed in front of me and my colleague, I thought I was going to lose my sh!t. How does one, particularly a restaurant server/waiter, thinks it is acceptable to serve food that has literally sat in front of other patrons? Let's not think about the talking that was done over the food, the molecular particles of saliva (sorry to be graphic, but really) in the air...yeah. No. I asked for the food to be remade, and only after this request, was an apology made. AND! To add insult to injury, 15% was taken off the bill. One would have thought with that huge blunder, the meal would have been taken off in totality. I've had my eye on this spot for a while. Despite there being room for improvement, I'm glad I finally got to try it. I came here for a late breakfast. Location, food and service were all good. I tried - Bachour egg sandwich - Brioche, scrambled eggs, aged cheddar, shallot marmalade, crispy pork belly, watercress. This was solid. The eggs were very nice and fluffy, the bun was SO good, it was very flakey upon biting, it reminding me a bit of a hybrid between a burger bun and a croissant. Crispy pork belly definitely seemed a lot more like regular bacon? Although the sandwich was good, it felt slightly overpriced and like it was missing a little extra something taste-wise. Also it didn't come with a side. 3.5/5 I also tried their croquettes (good, but not a large portion) sangria (decent but a little too sweet), as well as their macaroons (VERY good, some of the best I've ever had). I would really rate this spot a 3.5 but I'll round up because everything did taste high quality. We started off with Arepas Fritters, and it was super cheesy and yummy. $14 for 4 small fritters though is definitely pricey though. As for the Salmon Scramble, it certainly looks delicious, and it truthfully was. However, if was incredibly greasy. The first few bites were glorious, but it soon became difficult to consume. The salad was lightly drizzled with a vinaigrette of sorts, and it was good. The potatoes were good as well, but I wish they didn't mix in sweet potatoes into the mix. The kids had the pancakes - the light, fluffy pancakes. They come with mascarpone, syrup and guava. They served all that on the side for the kids and good thing because they only wanted the syrup. The french toast was delicious but I think hubby would've preferred the pancakes once he saw them in comparison. Service was great and professional. So why the 4/5 stars? I had my birthday dinner/sister's graduation celebration here 2 weeks ago. I'd been for breakfast before but wanted to try their dinner menu. The service was great as well, although there was some confusion when we first arrived... I had called weeks in advance about making a reservation for a party of 10 and they said they don't take reservations in the evening. But when I arrived and said I had 10 in my party, the hosts asked if I made a reservation, then frantically stormed off (reader, the restaurant had just opened and was not even half full). So that was stressful and confusing. Once we were seated, things calmed down a bit. The food was fantastic -- the octopus appetizer is a must-try item. Amazing flavors and presentation. Everyone was really happy with their entrees and our server was attentive without hovering. But about 10 minutes into being seated, a party of 11, with 6 children, sat next to us. The kids (all under 6 years old, I'd guess) threw rocks toward us, messed with the umbrellas surrounding our table so they were practically hitting our heads, and ran rampant threw the courtyard. I'm in no way blaming the restaurant and understand that bringing kids out to eat is no small feat, but after talking to the family multiple times, our celebration was definitely affected by this. The family even came up to us after and said their kids love this place BECAUSE it's like a playground for them. Really not cool and definitely tainted our experience. Longer version: Our first visit was for breakfast, I was happy with my croque madame and it was sizable size which unfortunately made me full. No cake for me :) the coffee was good but my water glass was not clean. I noticed stuff floating in it and ask it to be replaced. No big deal but I would have appreciate the water bottle being removed from the bill. Second time was for lunch, I just took a tomato burrata and was pleased with it. We had to ask for bread, do it! They do a nice sourdough which goes well with it. We tried multiple pastries, I think the Caribbean was the best by far. Walking through the doors of Bachour, one can't help but to notice all the sinfully delectable treats under glass by the counter. If you are in the mood for a simple or filled croissant, they have those. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, they have artisan crafted treasures as well. As you mother may have told you, you must eat your meal before you have dessert. Not to worry, having your meal is a pleasure at Bachour. We were a party of four and were having a difficult time choosing our mains. Lucy, our server, was very knowledgeable and provided us with recommendations. Among the entrees ordered, we had a salmon benedict, croque madame and steak sandwich. Each of the entrees was prepared to perfection . The steak on the steak sandwich was juicy and flavorful, the cheese on the croque madame was perfectly brown which combined with the toast on the bottom and the perfectly cooked egg made it a flavorful start to the morning. The salmon benedict was right on point. After eating the delectable mains, it was time to switch in to high gear and order our desserts. Love coming by here whenever I'm in miami because it's a 10 minute walk from the Hyatt that I always stay at. I haven't tried the menu items because the pastries are just too beautiful to pass up. I gave it 4 stars because I asked if they had a cafe con leche and the lady said yes but what I got was just milk with a little bit of coffee. I know she gave milk and coffee but in miami café con leche is Cuban coffee which has sugar and milk. This was not it at all. Also the quiche definitely needed salt. So it tasted bland. So, I FINALLY visited the Coral Gables location of Bachour this past Sunday. Really, my only complaint would be that they don't take reservations. When my friend and I arrived it was around 11:30 AM and already there were droves of people outside waiting for a table. We got in line to put our names in for a table and were told the wait was 25-45 minutes. Luckily for us, the hostess asked if we'd mind sitting at the bar. Since there were only two of us, it made perfect sense and we jumped at the opportunity since there was no wait for the bar. As soon as we sat down we were attended to by the server. To start, I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk. We then moved onto the appropriate Sunday brunch beverages: my friend ordered a glass of rose and I had the Lychee Bellini. I'd never thought to add Lychee puree to sparkling wine, but I'd definitely do it again! I'd add more bubbles and less lychee though as it was on the sweeter side. The Most Disrespectful and Humiliating Dining Experience I've Ever Had We were told to wait 20 minutes outside, then got a text that our table was ready. When we walked in, we were completely ignored. The only available table was given to a couple who arrived after us. When we showed the hostess a text message, she dismissed us with a smug "relax" and tried to seat us outside -- even though we had clearly asked for indoor seating, I wasn't feeling well due to the weather. When my husband asked for clarification, she suddenly yelled, "Don't touch me!" in front of other guests -- something that was deeply humiliating, unprovoked, and incredibly offensive. He hadn't even come close to touching her. She then walked off without a word and called the owner, Eventually, the owner (who appeared to be related to her) came out, and instead of apologizing, told us he would serve us personally if we still wanted to dine. We stayed only because we were starving and had waited so long. Big mistake. She kept smirking at us from a distance, and the owner didn't even pretend to be friendly. The whole time we felt like we weren't welcome. I was so upset I became physically ill when I got home. To make things worse, the waiter kept asking us to order more -- completely tone-deaf to the situation. As Asian customers, we couldn't help but feel we were treated with particular disdain. Whether it was racial discrimination or just unbelievable rudeness, it was one of the most degrading experiences I've ever had in public. This place is run by people who do not belong in hospitality. This is the most food photogenic place in Miami. You can take pictures of every dish and be there two days. On top of that, the food is really good. It is super high quality food and still somewhat traditional. I enjoyed eating my egg on egg quiche, and trying the other quiches (1-ham and 2-asparagus). The pastries were pretty good also, I prefer croissants to be a little more meatier and not just a shell, but these were good and this is the trend also. I was supposed to go back for dessert, but I had to leave and could not come back at a later time. But it is on my list for my next visit. Service was good, a bit informal, the vibe here is a mix of refined and anything goes. I like that idea.
