I found Chandler's Place by accident, I was walking along Alhambra Plaza and I noticed the restaurant. I decided to come back and give them a try for lunch. When you are running from a Hurricane and have been up all night watching the weather channel and have hair that looks like a crazy person and a Shih tzu in a stroller and just looked lost at 8 am, this is where you need to be. The owner saw us looking frazzled at the breakfast menu outside and came out and invited us warmly to come inside and bring the dog. I said look at us, but she said , it's Miami, we don't care. The loveliest lady ever. Still desperate to see how our home and the storm was, we got our order to go as she talked to me and the dog. Honestly, I just needed that. What a great place tucked away on Alhambra in Coral Gables off of Ponce de Leon. Everything is made from scratch by Chandler and James. Their chicken parmigiana is my favorite sandwich. Chandler is an amazing host. Attentive to everyone that walks thru the door. We cater them to our office. She made us a taco bar today for 70 people that was amazing. Chicken and beef and hard and soft shells and all the sides. By the way she makes the best brownies. Always get the brownies as a dessert. They cater to all events for breakfast or lunch. This is a tiny hole in the wall breakfast and lunch place off the beaten track. We were staying near by and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a couple of eggs. The lady who took our order could not have been more friendly and accommodating to a couple of strangers and treated us like regulars. A little hard to find the place (with Google maps at least). This place looked promising but, it was a huge disappointment. Maybe because we ordered no meat sandwiches (we ordered a caprice and grilled cheese sandwich) They looked as if they had been done and prepped in a hurry and with no care at all. The cheese was not melted on my caprice, my wife's garbanzo bean side tasted like from an old can. Strangely, the taste of my caprice was better than expected after how it looked but tasted worse from what I was originally anticipating. Worst part was either the owner or supervisor. Eventually, I had to man up and ended up getting the California turkey wrap which the cashier was happy to explain to me. For my side, I opted for the yucca salad because it sounded interesting! There are a couple tables inside but this little hole-in-the-wall is a great spot to take your food to go. Within about five minutes, my wrap was in my hands! It was hearty and full of lettuce, avocado, turkey and some tasty dressing. I could have been content with one half but ended up finishing both because I never wanted it to end! The yucca salad was pretty good but I didn't eat all of it, just so I could enjoy the wrap! Next time, I'll save even more room for some dessert.
