I was on a quest to find a sweet treat for one of my clients for her bday; I wasn't looking just for a cake, I wanted something special. Entering Bachour is like walking into a fine french dinning restaurant, but instead of several tables eating large dinners, I found happy patrons swinging their spoons towards beautiful made desserts; all while smiling, chatting and drinking some coffee. Here I am, in front of a glass showcase of fine croissants filled with chocolate, almond, dulce de leche...stop. Look at the pastries! They looked like little sculptures, many with vibrant colors and perfect edges that displayed perfectionism and attention to detail. I will say going on a Saturday morning will come with heavy traffic of costumers so not the fault of Bachour, however it was still upsetting how we left. The breakfast/brunch rush is not the best time to go in my opinion. The staff definitely felt overwhelmed and very scattered. One person took our drink order and another took our food order and the miscommunication was very apparent. Then when we asked for a extra chair to hold our bags they said we couldn't, but then they gave an extra chair after asking 3 times. Not sure what the issue was since they were "extra" chairs. Then when leaving we placed orders to go and even that was a hassle. The wrong food was packaged and of course we did not notice till we got home so no going back to change it. Oh and honestly the coffee bar is so chaotic. Ordering to go does not take president over in house orders so my cappuccino took almost 15 mins to get. Bachour has only been open for five months but I have been wanting to come here ever since I heard about them. Named for Puerto Rican chef and cookbook author Antonio Bachour, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch. It is open 7 days a week, 7 A.M. to 7 P.M.. I suggested Bachour for dessert after a lunch in Coral Gables. We were able to walk over from the Sun Stories art installation in Giralda Plaza. The 5,000 square foot restaurant seats 75 people. It has a large open feel with an industrial decor. Glass display cases showcase the artistic desserts. We chose to sit along the counter in front of the glass wall that separates the customers from the pastry chefs going about their work. My daughter and I started out with a rich and frothy cappuccino while we ran back and forth to the display case debating which pastry to get. They sell an assortment of petits gateaux, macarons, croissants, and bonbons. We decided we all wanted the petits gateaux for $8.95 each. They are miniature works of art but ones you can eat. My daughter picked the Banoffee Chocolate Tart with cocoa sable, dulce de leche, banana, vanilla cream, and Manjari chocolate mousse. My friend had the apple cake with vanilla whipped ganache, apple compote, and almond cake that looked like Snow White's apple. I agonized over my decision and after talking it over with our wonderful server Bruno, I finally picked the Gianduja Cake with hazelnut cake, chocolate hazelnut mousse, coconut gianduja, whipped ganache, and hazelnut praline. We had to try a bite of each other's desserts and they were all amazing. Some desserts elsewhere may look good but disappoint in taste. These were every bit as delicious as they appeared! We savored every bite to make it last. Before I left, I was already planning when I could come back to try more of their fabulous desserts. The service and food is beyond compare. We even found ourselves sitting next to one of the investment partners, Javier. At night, Bachour hosts classes and events. Antonio Bachour also has a food stall inside the Citadel in Little Haiti as well as another location at the Time Out Market in Miami Beach. Coral Gables is the flagship restaurant. From the minute you walk through the flower festooned door, you will be pampered and treated to some of the best pastries Miami has to offer. I've had Bachour on my list for quite some time. Those delicious pastries and desserts were calling my name. So when I finally had to chance to make it in for brunch I was very excited! However, I was left somewhere between impressed and disappointed with my visit simply off the food. Our choices ended up being very hit or miss. We ordered cappuccinos which left half of disappointed. I had asked for my cappuccino to be made with almond milk, but it tasted like they used oat milk instead. Our server said it was almond so I left it at. For starters we got the Arepa Fritters which were delicious. I wrote the cappuccino incident off as a fluke. Then our entrees came out and I realized that it wasn't. While the burger and guava pancakes (ginormous in size) were very tasty, the eggs Benedict and Greek salad were not. The Eggs Benedict stated it came with prosciutto, and what we received looked like run of the mill ham. The Greek salad was just flat out disappointing, and it's super hard to mess up Greek salad. Dessert was redeeming. The Key Lime Tart, Coconut Cheesecake, and chocolate and hazelnut croissant were all great. All in all, I would only return for the desserts and pastries, but not a meal. Totally unimpressed!!! I've been excited to try this place the minute I saw a couple of my yelp friends raving about their "delicious" looking bakery items. Walking in I was impressed with its minimalist design, large open space, and their Michael Angelo-like bakery items. Unfortunately, that's where the culinary poetry stops. The bakery items had no menus, had no listed prices, neither were there ingredient lists, just the names of each item in rows. I chose three items, a strawberry croissant, a cinnamon roll, and one of their divine looking super tiny cakes. All three of them added up to $20, yes you read right. Strawberry croissant - "Le Bland", thank god it wasn't a cheap sugar bomb, but it barely had any flavor, it just looked pretty. It also had some kind of gross looking creamy substance inside. Unfortunately, I didn't know it was there or what it was because they didn't have ingredient lists. Cinnamon roll - the bottom of it was tough, not burnt, but tough enough to be rough on my teeth, and agitating enough to stick in between my gums. It didn't taste bad, but for $5 for something half the size of the palm of my hand, I expected it to at least be in the heavenly realm à la "Knaus Berry Farm". Instead, I felt cheated by a Winn-Dixie cinnamon roll. Tiny cake for $8 - I bought this cake as a peace offering for a young Dubai born damsel, we had a little bit of a misunderstanding per se. Either way, by the time I gave it to her a couple of hours later, what first was a masterpiece of Francian art, melted into a pile of dung. I would have loved if someone had warned me, or if they had information on their non-existent menu that would have informed me this "cake" melts like ice-cream. Food was delicious, I came here with my mom for breakfast (coral gables location) and we had the avocado toast with poached eggs and a mixed green salad. I will say the portions are way too big, I was only able to eat half of my plate. It's also a pricey place, almost $20 for an avocado toast. I've been here many times, my dentist is a couple blocks away from Bachour so I usually swing by here afterwards. The first time I was here, they charged me for a cake and didn't put it in my bag. I contacted the business directly and the head chef emailed me to come in for my item and an apology. Thanks for having great business practice. On normal occasions, I come in here for the sweets. The macarons are all really good, my fav being the cookies and creme and birthday cake. I love the hazelnut crunch and pistachio petite gateaux as well. I also get iced coffee, but its not really anything special.. i'd pass on it unless you really need some caffeine. The croissants are really big, I love their pistachio creme filled croissant usually really big but there was one occasion where mine was actually completely empty so that was a let down. Other than that, the quiches are really filling, I like the asparagus over the ham and cheese. I also had their alfredo mushroom crepes.. I don't think its on the menu now. There are not many places that can rise up to their reputation but Bachour takes the perfectly aestheticized cake for their efforts. The "brunch all day" concept of Bachour makes the quaintest café offer sweet and savory eats all day, even the late riser can enjoy breakfast. To the eye Bachour May seem overpriced and people may have even told you it was underwhelming but if they have, don't let the negativity steer you away from enjoying a perfect day here. I recommend sitting outside, as it was mosquito free and perfectly shaded. My mom enjoyed a glass of wine and I reluctantly ordered an unsweetened iced tea. My assumptions were washed away once I tried it. Fruity and refreshing, it perfectly accompanied my meal. We split octopus salad and a medium rare steak frites. The freshness of the various tomatoes in the salad were delightful and whatever it was dressed in, emboldened the deliciously garden-fresh taste. Following was the steak which was so perfectly juicy and seasoned. The two were perfect to split for a lunch and we were both happily satisfied. We then tried the Gianduja dessert, which mixes hazelnut cake, chocolate and hazelnut flavors including ganache, creams and other deliciousness. Our waiter was perfectly helpful in choosing our dishes which was the cherry on top; this is a make or break feature of a good restaurant. In essence, visit and taste the Bachour magic for yourself. Bachour Bakery was featured in a local news segment and I immediately knew I had to pay it a visit. Bachour has a wide selection of French pastries that resemble more closely art than dessert. I came for breakfast on a Saturday at 10:30 AM. There was only one table left inside but there was seating at the bar which directly looks into the pastry kitchen. I ordered the eggs Benedict ($15) and the guava pancakes ($14) to share. The eggs Benedict were notably made with quality ingredients. However, I wasn't crazy about this dish (but then again eggs Benedict can only be done so many ways). The guava pancakes were impressive: Three stacked 10 in. pancakes with some guava marmalade nestled in between, guava chunks for garnish, a light cream cheese based topping and some light syrup. I enjoyed the guava pancakes. They were sweet but not too sweet. I recommend sharing these with someone. For dessert, I ordered the Granny Smith Apple ($8.95). It is such a treat breaking into the apple. There is a nice cake inside with an Apple filing and a light mousse at the top. Desserts rotate often and was disappointed that the tulip was not available during my visit. I also tried a coconut macaroon ($3) which was light yet had a nice external crunch. When I first would think of Bachour I would imagine all the delicious baked goods and chocolates that have seen in pictures. I have to say that in person they look just as good. Although this is what I initially thought of when I stopped by I actually ended up having a full meal instead. Bachour is located in one of the newer buildings in Coral Gables that has commercial space on the first floor. The building has valet parking and there is also the typical parallel parking nearby. The restaurant has a very neat look to it with the bakery prominently displayed with their bakers hard at work making all sorts of delicious treats. There was a good amount of tables and for a Saturday brunch there was a only short 15 minute wait. There is also an outdoor courtyard with extra seating that can be reserved for events. There was a birthday going on while I was there and it didn't effect the service at all. When it came to the meal I came in knowing I wanted a steak sandwich but then I saw a large stack of pancakes pass in front of me and I needed to convince someone at the table to share them with me. The pancakes were guava and cheese flavored and were nice and thick. I almost compared them to the consistency of a dense bread pudding. Even though I split them and had half a steak sandwich (which was also delicious) I had to take half of the huge stack of pancakes home. It frames the entrance to a gastronomical heavenly delight. Once you go in you notice the decor: spartan, clean industrial modern. The place beams with painted exposed brick, stainless steel and a cleanliness missing from most south Florida operating rooms. We sat down and ordered breakfast. I had the Spanish Scramble, which consisted of Scrambled eggs, Serrano ham, roasted tomatoes, shaved Manchego w/ toast. It was good, not great with a healthy portion of eggs. My only critique is that it tasted like every other Spanish breakfast in Miami. Don't know if this is a nod to perceived limited palates or a standard par for the course. This was my hesitation in awarding the 5th star--which I award sparingly--but with all the other aspects being above par I shall err on the side of the fifth star. Now the piece de resistance: the desserts. Willie Wanka eat your heart out. They are exquisitely arranged and continuously replenished. From the moment I drove by I knew this place was going to wow me. The door is framed in a foot of flowers all around. Just beautiful!!! The bon bons look like little painted trinkets and each dessert looks like it was labored o we for hours to make it just perfect; true works of art. Immaculate and delicious, Bachour is a delight for the five senses and not your typical bakery. The front door is surrounded by lovely decor of vibrant flowers and upon entering the scent of baked goodies intoxicates. The actual bakery area is glass enclosed and one can watch the work in progress. Even the bathrooms were beautiful and inviting. Neatly lined rows of desserts and baked items look almost too good to eat and do not disappoint. They seem to have the ideal balance of sweetness, flavor and texture. The almond financier was divine. For breakfast, the Eggs Benedict was excellent and brought 2 poached eggs with ham and bread, crisp potatoes slices and salad. I think once you try Bachour you cannot stop coming back to try all they have to offer. The meals came very quickly. Bachour is a popular busy spot but they seen to serve meals quickly so there was no wait line. Loved it! I'm a Francophile and have never found a place that can come close to making pastries like the French (in Miami). Luckily - that woe is ended and now there is ... Bachour! All the food was fantastic and the quality of the produce seemed of a higher quality. The menu was a nice, slightly different change from the usual with all the changes being enhancements, in my opinion. The pastries were simply sumptuous - special nod to the Almond Financier. There is a downside however...they do not take reservations. Our wait time was 35-mins this morning. Having said that though, it's a bustling place with views of the pastry making process and good food so the wait isn't that big a deal when you with it against everything.
