If you are looking for a true "smoky" flavor in your BBQ, it's not here. I have had better BBQ in Spicewood, TX at Opies BBQ on Hwy 71. I will say the white meat on the chicken breast was moist, even if it didn't have a true BBQ smokiness flavor, I did get pintos with that without an added charge. My husband got the rib plate with 2 sides, he said they tasted as if they had been cooked, not smoked. They were tender though. He wasn't too impressed with the cheesy green beans or creamed corn. My first official Fredericksburg BBQ experience has led to a fuzzy set of pros and cons. The server who helped me was chipper and informative while her counterpart sat in the corner looking dreadfully bored out of her skull The place was essentially dead on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon. It features a clean open dining space with high ceilings and a rustic wooden look including mounted animal heads on the walls. The theme was rounded out with old school honky tonk jams playing overhead. So the food... Turkey was tasty enough but pretty gosh darn dry. The sauce helped but was quite watery with a tangy sweet flavor very reminiscent of sloppy joes. Instead of the limp saturated skinny pickle slices you get most places they have thick crunchy dill slices. Decent mac and cheese here but the so-so cream corn doesn't compare to others like Smokey Moe or Rudy. And the green beans come from a can (boo hiss). Not really a place I'm likely to revisit. Next time I find myself in Fburg the craving for BBQ will surely lead me elsewhere. Hasta la pasta! read more

Y'all need to head on out to this place for some great bbq! We went out around 6:30 on a Friday night and some meats were already sold out! I had the lean brisket and my husband had the sausage and it was delicious! They have great sides as well. The Mac and cheese was cheesy good, the cheesy green beans were yummy. We also had the potato salad, another great side. The delicious BBQ beans are included with every plate. The portions are large, but we managed to eat every bite! Very friendly atmosphere. We also enjoyed the live music - not so loud you couldn't visit while dining. We did not order steak, but those around us that did got a real treat. The steaks were HUGE and looked perfectly grilled. My husband and I could not agree where to eat on our last night in Fredericksburg, and finally decided based on Yelp reviews to try this place out. The building is new so I don't know if the business is new or not, but neither of us were impressed with much here. The brisket was dry, even tho I got marbled, and my husband got sausage and did not care for it either. As for the sides, we got green beans, mac & cheese and coleslaw, also not anything more than ok. And lastly we tried the peach cobbler. I don't know if this is how they typically make their cobbler or if I just got some terrible section of the pan, but it was more like a yellow cake with peaches on top. The food is ok, the brisket and turkey and sausage are the best meats, we got Mac n cheese and green beans as a side, green beans were good, Mac n cheese was disgusting , cold and hard with no flavor stuck in the container like a Dairy Queen blizzard not even my child would eat it , it was that bad. 3.5 stars for me. The pork ribs were good and tender but seemed to lack some smoke flavoring while the first bite of the brisket was a really good mix with the burnt end, seasoning and meat/marbling with the rest being somewhat dry and needing some bbq sauce. This place reminds me a bit of my experience with Rudy's so if you like them, I would guess you will like this one. The sides I tried were all pretty good as well with the potato salad solid but maybe more mustardy than I like, the creamed corn was sweet with the cream a bit less dense and the pinto beans having a good spice with the added jalapeños but the sauce also a little watery. Great find. Our of towner visiting who wanted to try local bbq. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. My wife got the Brisket Stuffed Potato, she loved it! Couldn't finish it was so filling. Like it enough to finish it for dinner! I had the pork ribs, fall off the bone, flavor so good I didn't use the bbq sauce as they were delicious on their own. Really impressive place with great beef BBQ. The sides were great; I had potato salad and cheesy green beans. You can also get a side of BBQ beans for free in the fixings area. I didn't try the maranque pie, but the comments about it were positive, thick layer of pie topped by white marangue. Very nice and modern facility with plenty of parking. Lines can be long at peak times, but it's worth the wait for some down home Q! There is a large room in back for functions, which we used for a family post funeral meal. In my opinion its the best BBQ joint in town for overall quality of meat and sides plus dining experience. I have had the brisket and sausage primarily. Loved the loaded baked potato salad and the flavorful pinto beans (served for dine in). They let me taste the turkey which I didn't love but all the other stuff is so good I will keep coming back. read more

I have been here two times. The first time was great. My husband and I like to try everything, so we ordered a lb of every meat they had available. They were out of turkey and chicken the first time so we were unable to try that but the second time they had it available and we ordered accordingly. The first time, they only had lean brisket available which was dried out by the time we were at our table. The second time we were able to get better slices of brisket and it was nice, tender and flavorful. The pork ribs ARE NOT baby backs, they are St. Louis, but they were flavorful. The second time we opted out of the St. Louis ribs and got the pork butt, which was nice and really good. The first time they did not have pork butt available and we were glad to see they had it the second time. Chicken was excellent! Turkey was a bit bland. Now, the sausage, which was my favorite the first time BUT...and this is a big BUT... the sausage did NOT taste like the same sausage the second time. That is sad because we ordered a lot. Further, beans were out at the drink machines the first time and the 2nd time you had to go to the cashier to beg for more. The beans are really good, and they gave us the excuse of some old man filling his drink cup up with beans and emptying the pot the day before so they moved it to where you have to order sides. Just arrived in town, local recommended so away we went. Bunch of guys just hanging out back, splitting wood, big metal shed. Menu Signs still on the ground inside, should have been the first clue. How long does it take to hang that up? Sloopy serving cook, weighs everything but leaves alot behind, we not serve on the paper, duh? Very clean cause its new but that won't last long the way they are keeping things up already in the place. Turkey was completely dried out ribs have been laying there a while both were cold, brisket was warm but stringy long pieces of meat cut the wrong direction and almost half of it was fat food was completely subpar compared to normal Texas BBQ that I've come to expect. Oh my. Delicious. We had ribs- so good- and brisket- to die for. The sauce was fabulous tangy spicy and not too sweet. Wanted some pie- looked delicious. BUT we ate too much brisket and ribs and cole slaw. -Very fresh and creamy. Even the tea was perfect. Freshly brewed lots of ice We enjoyed the excellent service and for the gentleman who mentioned he had to bus his own table. That is no longer the case. A very polite young man asked if he could remove our plates and did so. Normally we avoid live music because of the volume. Tonight however, Lonnie Lett was perfect. Nice music to eat and talk by. He played songs from the 50's, 60's,70's and lots of country hits. Even one written by my personal fave kris kristoferson- and that was not a request! We had a great meal. We will come back. So very happy we found this place. Food was excellent. I had the sausage sandwich, with enough sausage for two, lol. Hubby had the two meat plate. We love the burnt fatty ends, and they accomidated . Restaurant is clean, lots of seating - perfect for larger groups. You can smell the deliciousness as you walk in. You've got to try their homemade spanish rice! Food was pretty good. We went on the day that Texas decided masks were no longer necessary...so of course most people didn't have one on even though the line was long and it was busy. We got our food and ate outside. It was a bit windy but it was fine. The jalapeño sausage was okay. I've been one other time, a year ago, and it was definitely better then. This time it was a little dry and chewy. The Mac and cheese is what made the meal, it was delicious!! The lemonade was also really good.
