We have driven away a few times because the parking lot looked packed, but today we decided to go ahead and go in, thankfully there is plenty of seating inside and out. All together with drinks it was $42, a price I think is fair for BBQ. All the sides were good. Napkins, pepper, and salt were located on the table. The restaurant is very nice, ample parking for disable customers, food viewing station was nice and clean, beverage station was clean and organized. The BBQ ribs was a little dry and the brisket was not a marble cut. The manager, Mike just happens to come over to our table to ask if every thing was ok. My daughter and other guests talked about the dryness of the ribs and no marble cut of the brisket. Right away, Mike said he would take care of the meats, and he did. Now that is management service! The remainder of our meals were great. My sister raved about the sausage stating it was very moist. I loved the potato salad! The Pinto beans also had a good flavor. This place is amazing! First off I was very skeptical about trying a new bbq place since I had my 87 year old father with me, who's extremely picky when it comes to bbq. He has his favorite place in his home town, so there is no bbq that has ever come close. But today was the day and Backwoods was the place. Right off he tried the beans and he was surprised how tasty and well seasoned the beans were. I have to agree they were super tasty! He had the beef rib which was enormous and super tender. We also had the brisket, sausage and pork ribs. They do not over smoke their meat, which is always my father's complaint about most bbq places, not over spiced either. You can taste the flavor of the quality meat. The sausage was not greasy and had good flavor, quality sausage. The creamed corn was delicious as was the potato salad. The staff was super patient while we were deciding looking over all the choices. They were eager to answer any questions we had. The place is spacious and welcoming. They even have a bar area. We went around 3 on a Thursday and they were not super busy at that time. Oh and their desserts looks delicious, but we were too full to partake. Next time we definitely will. I had brisket...not sure where this was supposed to end up, but I had a half pound of tender, non-smoky meat. And the cue sauce was very odd. They say they close at 8, but their lazy, untrained workers don't want to work until 8. We arrived at 7:45 and they had put 90% of the trimmings out up...in a Saturday night! I asked the meat cutter if they could serve 7 people & he said, "I don't know", then started talking Spanish to his co-workers. I understand Spanish. There was plenty of meat available. I read the other reviews and walked over from the nearby campground. Walking in, the smells were delicious. I walked up to the counter to order a stuffed potato and was greeted with a "Sir, how can I help you." Im not a sir and it wasn't busy and no apology. I was asked if I wanted all the fixings and I said yes. I paid, and the cashier didn't smile or say thank you. I walked the half mile back to the campground to eat. So yummy and great staff! Went here with our grandson for his first real Texas BBQ and it was the perfect choice. Not too crowded and no stuffy staff members. Everyone was friendly and the food was amazing. Fresh and plentiful and reasonably priced. We each ordered a two meat plate and easily had enough to eat - in fact we didn't eat again that day. We were very excited to try this new BBQ place during our day trip to Fredericksburg. We arrived around 11:30 AM and there was no wait to order. After browsing the menu, we decided to try the Tri-Tip, Extra Moist Brisket, and Potato Salad. Everything was decently priced and our total was a little more than $30 for 2 people. Dining-in also included 1 free cup of bean soup per customer, and access to the unlimited bread, BBQ sauce, and Jalapeno/Onion/Pickles bar. After the first bite of the bean soup, we quickly became unimpressed. The soup was under seasoned, and was not salty enough. On to the Tri-Tip, it was again not as special as we thought it would be. The meat was quite dry, under seasoned, and could've been more salty. The Extra Moist Brisket was pretty good but not the best we've had. The fatty parts of the meat were quite delicious but there were still some parts that were slightly dry. The Potato Salad was well seasoned, but the potatoes themselves were undercooked and slightly too hard. Even though we left very full with leftovers to take home, we were not impressed by the BBQ. We had such high hopes but left disappointed after eating their BBQ. The restaurant did have plenty of seating and was very clean, including their restrooms. About 25 - 30% of the people walking around and waiting in the line did not have masks and no one asked them to put it on. Yesterday I had the bbq chicken, and it was so flavorful that no sauce was necessary. If you haven't tried their bbq, you're missing out on the best! Came here after exploring trails in the area, about two hours from home. It was 2pm and we arrived and they had closed and only had a few meats left. They still offered to serve us happily, and we got the turkey and sausage which, usually turkey is dry at bbq places and let me tell you it was far from dry! out of the probably 6 bbq places I've been to in Texas, this one exceeded them all! If you are looking for a true "smoky" flavor in your BBQ, it's not here. I have had better BBQ in Spicewood, TX at Opies BBQ on Hwy 71. I will say the white meat on the chicken breast was moist, even if it didn't have a true BBQ smokiness flavor, I did get pintos with that without an added charge. My husband got the rib plate with 2 sides, he said they tasted as if they had been cooked, not smoked. They were tender though. He wasn't too impressed with the cheesy green beans or creamed corn.
