Brisket, regular sausage, green beans, and coleslaw

TX BBQ rocks! Service and ambience: Backwoods BBQ is located 5min drive from the Fredericksburg Main Street which is perfect because it's away from the tourists as well as hustle and bustle of the wineries. The place is big and can accommodate many BBQ lovers. Don't worry about parking spaces either. There was a live music during our visit which made it super cool too. Food: Delicious! You must come and try it when you are in the area. All meats were moist, tender, and well seasoned. They offer good selection of tasty side dishes to accompany their tasty meats. Soft drinks, tea, coffee and beers are available to order. Pricing: Affordable and well worth it!

Leftover fat from Brisket & Tri-tip

I just left the restaurant so my memory is relatively intact. I ordered a combo plate of Brisket & Tri-tip at $18.50. At checkout I noticed a $3.00 "up charge". It was explained to me it was due to the price of beef .......Their menu is a chalk board.....why not change it to state "$21.50" for the combo ? Duh ! I had water and that CUP cost $0.50. Of course on the ticket , I had options ranging up to 25% for TIP ! This is a self serve restaurant...order/pickup at the counter . So I left a zip tip. The bad news was both meats consisted of 2/3 FAT. I even took a photo !2

    Pork Ribs, sausage, turkey, brisket

Me and my Bfs favorite bbq place (and we've eaten bbq all throughout Texas) I personally love their turkey the most- he loves the brisket- everything is super tender, I've never gotten dry meat here- the ribs are amazing- nothing is to greasy, and the BBQ sauce is DELICIOUS + can never skip the Mac and cheese it's so good. 100% recommend this place.

The barbecue is delicious and permeated with what I believe is mesquite smoke! I love their pork ribs. They are meaty and tender and spicy with salt and coarse pepper. The sausage is so good and is coarse grind and beef, I think. The beef brisket has a great flavor and I prefer the fatty cut. Backwoods also serves beef ribs and pork chops, but I've never tried them. . Thursday is the rib lunch special. Friday night is steak night is one I'm looking forward to trying. As far as I know, all of the sides and desserts are made from scratch and are delicious. The pinto beans are really good and...BONUS they are free. Soooo, every plate comes with 2 sides which doesn't include beans! Every body is so friendly and welcoming at Backwood's. It's the closest thing to the original Cooper 's barbecue in Mason, Tx that you will find. Try it ! You will be back again soon. It's like old school Texas Barbecue.

One meat plate with brisket, Mac, and potato salad.

Best bbq I've ever had!! Like gets long quick (what can you expect?), but most definitely worth the wait.

I went with the wagyu brisket, hill country sausage, and boudin. It came out to about $45, with enough to eat the next day. I'd say the brisket and sausage were solid, but not really ranked in my personal top BBQ stops. I'm not really sure that the Wagyu title stands out with the brisket, with mine not be particularly fatty or moist. The boudin I'd say was a bit of a miss for me -- it was quite dry, and felt like it had been under a heater for potentially hours before reaching my plate. I'd also say the sauce didn't stand out for there also only being one sauce option, and there not being a plain chip option stood out as a bit odd -- only offering flavored variations. Overall I'd say my experience was good, and I love that they accommodate allergies and are a safe option. It just doesn't particularly stand out if you really start comparing it to every other BBQ you've had

I had see it recommended by so many people and I'm happy to report that it lived up to the hype (and still impressed me)! NOTES: - Reservations: no... walk in only - Parking: a few spots on the side of the building but free street parking nearby as well - Closed on Wednesday THE HIGHS: - Our server, Kevin, was PHENOMENAL... he was friendly but fast and efficient! - Coffee was strong and refilled constantly - Food came out quickly and everything was fresh - Not a single bad bite... everything was delicious! THE LOWS: - I wish I had more stomach space to try other items! THE PRICE: An absolute STEAL for how good the food is! - Country Biscuit and Sausage Gravy ($13.50 + $1 for cheese added to scrambled eggs) - Josephine ($13) - Short Stack Pancake ($6) - Biscuit ($2.50) - Side of Grits ($4) The total was $44.50 after tax ($3.30) and a credit card processing fee ($1.20) but before tip. (We also got coffee but weren't charged for it) BEST BITES: - Josephine (biscuit was thick and soft, egg was fried perfectly, brie cheese was creamy and delicious, honey ham added the perfect savory element, and the fig preserves added a nice touch of sweetness) - Pancakes (thick and fluffy... everything you'd want them to be) - Grits (simple but delicious... I've had a lot of grits and these were the perfect texture) THE VERDICT: This was my first visit to Sunset Grill after seeing it recommended by so many people... it was a must-try while in Fredericksburg and it was one of my favorite meals of the trip! The service was fantastic, the prices are affordable, and the food is top-tier for comfort breakfast. Overall, 1 of our favorite food stops on this trip! Our order consisted of 1 order of bang bang shrimp, 1 spinach & artichoke dip appetizer, a shared seared salmon dish (not pictured), 1 blackberry margarita (not pictured), & 1 blueberry mule (not pictured). For me, the best part of our order was the bang bang shrimp. If I get to go back I'll just order 2 of those & call it good! The spinach & artichoke appetizer was good, but offered a pretty standard flavor profile. The seared salmon was the best salmon dish I've tasted in a long time, paring nicely with the mashed potatoes & roasted veggies that came with it. Both cocktails were amazing, but my wife said the blackberry margarita was fantastic. The most negative thing about GH was extremely limited indoor seating availability & the lack of reservations, but now you've been warned. It was a short trip for us, but we will be back to GH on our next visit to Fredericksburg for sure.
