Thanks to the fabulous cooks of the day, Tyler, Daniel and Brandon, our seemingly simple burger meal was a flavorful treat, juicy hearty beef on a slightly sweet roll perfectly cooked and dressed. The fries were equally superb, cooked just right with a crispy outer crust, and seasoned with a balanced salty-spicy blend. And making the meal experience a true joy was our wonderful server, Chelsea. She gave us the perfect amount of attention with a very personable friendly demeanor. We have been customers of Backyard BBQ for two years, and the food and service can be very different at times. In the future, I plan to call ahead and check who is cooking. A true example that you can find good Q in the smallest towns in Texas. We enjoy sitting outside, eating some very good BBQ and watching the deer come though the field. I heard about Backyard Barbeque from work friends. Went out there for the first time yesterday, the drive over the dam was beautiful. I got food from the drive thru window on the side of the building which was very convenient for me. I ordered the Bubba Tater and a rib plate for my friend. The wonderful smell on the way home in my car made me want to stop on the side of the road and dig in. Food was delicious, moderately priced and good portions. The drive thru staff was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely be back and so sorry I am just now finding out about this place. It puts Clem Mikeska's to shame! read more

I have been in love with Backyard for a good three years now. My husband found the place before I did, and he comes back for a completely different reason than I do. The chicken fried steak. Well, I know I'm Texan and all, but I'm just not that big a fan of CFS. I tried, and I tried, but, for me, the bbq prevails. And it really prevails here. This is just the sort of place you want to bring your out-of-towner friends, family and folks that just want to see what Texas BBQ is all about. This would be your place. My favorite? Well, it's been their special. The BBQ sandwich with a side of Bubba Fries. Big, thick fries that are dipped in ranch dressing with paprika all over. Delicious and FILLING! And the sandwich? Be sure to drip a little of their homemade BBQ sauce into it, for the perfect flavors of smokey and tangy all rolled into one. My girls are fans of the chicken sandwich and the 'bubba tater', depending on their appetites. The chicken sandwich seems to be perfectly seasoned, and the bubba tater is chock full of not only the 'usual' toppings, but pretty much all and any seasoned meats on the menu. Not long time ago my coworkers and I engaged in a discussion about the best BBQ in town, and this is how I found out about Backyard BBQ. I will never go anywhere else again. Well, maybe one more time for the cheesy potatoes in Schoepff's ;) The Food: My b/fr and I made it a tradition to go there every weekend to eat lunch. Backyard BBQ does not disappoint. The ribs are amazing, falling off the bone, not too smokey ( for a very smokey taste go to Rudy's in Killeen). We also had their chicken fried steak and it was HUGE. We enjoy the appetizers. We once ordered the veggie basket, and it was enough to feed 4 people: deep fried mushrooms, okra, potatoes, cheese sticks. We also had their jalapeno poppers, and they were good as well. And there is of course the Bubba Tater. We get 1/2 the tater for two people ! I am not kidding. It is huge and delicious! The Service: Our server is Lacye, who is just a sweetheart. She hooked us up with beer cozies and the "Dinkle" - Backyard's secret recipe rub that is available for sale. They also sell t-shirts. The service is always fast, and we never wait too long for our drinks or food to come out. When the weather is nice we like to sit outside. The Location: I like the ambiance inside and outside. Such a really nice bbq place. The portions were huge and no need for a fork, the meat just came off the bone. The best thing all night was the Bubba Fries Deluxe, which came with brisket, bbq sauce, cheese, sour cream and green onions, it was soooo delicious!! The potato wedges were perfectly crispy on the outside & soft and moist on the inside. The brisket was smokey & tender. Also, our server, Kim was super friendly and attentive, our drinks were always filled and orders came out exactly right. Seriously, best service we've had in a while. She never missed a beat, not to say that the rest of the staff weren't also great, cause they were. WOW!!! And that's not all I have to say about this place... First, just want to say its The Banquet Hall in the front and true to the name, in the back, The Backyard Bbq... :). The reason i gave it 4 stars is bc i had to pre-bus the tables of our party of 10 myself... we sat there for awhile finished and no one checked in on us for clearing the empty baskets/plates/bowls, nor did they pick up on the fact that we were talking about dessert for awhile... And we were right next to the cashier stand... Where all 3 servers stood... BUT other than that! ;) The brisket was Truly Toothless Tender, the onion rings were AMAZINGLY delicious with their hand dipped, special dry rub seasoning, and as if that wasn't enough... The meat was acceptable. I've only lived in Texas for the better part of a month and every place I've been to was better. The sides were a joke. The usual boiled pinto beans (get it together Texas, go for baked beans), no mac and cheese, no cornbread, no sweet potato mash. Even the server apologized for the lack of sides, embarrassing. It's too bad honestly, my fiance and I are BBQ nuts and would have loved to return again as the Morgan's Point area is beautiful, but we'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Let me start off by saying, the guy who gave three stars to this place has no idea what truly good bbq is! I have been going here for years now; so this is long overdue. I live pretty far away, so I don't get to go here to often. However; anytime I am going to be in the vast vicinity, I make it a point to come here. Let me also be clear, I live very close to the nearly world famous, Salt Lick BBQ; which is not nearly as good as Backyard BBQ! The brisket is absolutely no teeth needed. Ribs and chicken are both fall off the bone...sausage is also top notch! I just got the onion rings for the first time yesterday...wow! All of the sides are very tasty as well.
