Smoked Salmon Benedict was the perfect balance of flavors. I was hesitant about the combination, but had zero regrets after ordering it.

Backyard Bistro is a hidden gem, offering locals and visitors a small town, farm to table, quality culinary experience. As Pipe Creek locals since 2020, with a high regard for the culinary arts, my husband and I find comfort in knowing that this place has remained consistent since our first visit. Keeping menu favorites and frequenting menu specials, our palates stay enticed to come back for something we loved, or to try something new. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean, cozy, and charming, their hours are consistent, and most importantly the food is beautifully presented and equally delectable. We highly recommend a visit.

Glad we found this local bistro! We came from a long hike/trekking at west peak overlook. We were so tired and hungry - drove to this place hoping that we will get a real good food. Backyard Bistro did NOT disappoint us. It was really good from main course to dessert. Their carrot cake was on point, not too sweet and rich with ingredients. Similar with our main course which was Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast and Egg' Benedict with pork butt (the specialty of the day" Experience was really good and if in the event that we will be going back in that area we will for sure go back here. Hidden treasure! We stopped to look at antiques and discovered this small kitchen in the back. The service good but slow, noise levels moderate and the food is delicious. GF friendly. I had a burger and loved it. Charred ground beef topped with cheesy mushrooms, yes yes yes. What really made me happy was how the chef prepared a GF dish for my partner. When she's happy = I'm happy.

This is my second visit to this little bistro. The eatery is in the rear of a large antiques establishment. It is very quaint with a nice, casual vibe. Many of the furnishings are for sale. There is also a large outdoor dining area. On the day we visited we had reservations for 1030. There were tables available but the place filled up while we were there. Two of our party ordered the special- a chicken fried steak with gravy, eggs your way, toast and fruit for $13. One of us got the spinach and tomato omlet with fruit for $8, and I ordered an appetizer of 4 panko encrusted cheese grits in remoulade sauce for $6. We also shared a shrimp corn dog appetizer, basically shrimp fried in cornmeal in a sweet and spicy thai sauce. It was $4 for 4 shrimp so we all tried it and liked it very much. Two of us ordered tea and one got coffee. He also ordered the cauliflower soup which was not served so we had to get it taken off the bill. We ate everything. It was wonderful, made fresh and cooked to order. Our total bill was $55 plus tax and tip. They have a nice selection of homemade desserts but we were full from our meal. I did not take anything away from my rating although the waitress forgot the soup and it took way longer than it should to get the bill, get it picked up and then returned. If there is one thing I would criticize is the bathroom. There is only one and it seems whenever I have gone to use it someone is in there holding a morning constitution. So I just stand there outside the door in the middle of the restaurant waiting for whoever is in there to wrap it up, so to speak. I think they need to make a second bathroom out of the overly large space they have for one sink and toilet. Somthing to consider for the future. In summary, this bistro is quaint with just a big enough portion of fresh tasty food you can finish without getting a box, and very reasonable prices.

This place is not just a Hill Country gem, but a Texas gem. It is located in the heart of Bandera, TX right off Hwy 16 and just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from San Antonio. The service was phenomenal- friendly and attentive - and the food was perfectly cooked and DELICIOUS!! I had the Pecan-crusted Chicken and it was cooked to perfection. My daughter had the Bistro Burger and sweet potato fries and she hasn't stopped raving. Plus their yummy desserts are all handmade fresh! I am so glad we stopped instead of driving back to San Antonio. We will definitely make the drive back specifically to visit this restaurant. You should too!

Awesome, quirky vibe in the private dining area.

Pulled over on the way home from Boerne and was pretty surprised with the entire experience. Definitely exceeded my expectations. You drive down a sketchy caliche road thinking you are going to someone's house behind an antique store. You are only partially right. It's a house, but no one lives there anymore. The parking lot is small, but if the weather is warm there's a ton of seating outside. If the weather is bad, you may be a little tight inside if it looks like the parking lot is full. Don't worry, park where ever. All the tables were taken so they asked if we wanted to sit outside on a February Friday. It was cool, but we were hungry. On the way they said that we could have the private dinning room. Sure! It turned out to be a little house/room/shed way out back and it was awesome. I thought I was living large. Very pretty, very romantic. If only we didn't have a third wheel with us! Started off with the corndog shrimp and it came with onion soup. The corndog shrimp were very novel. Shrimp on a skewer that had been dipped in corndog batter. Tasted awesome. Came with some sweat & sour chili sauce to give it that Asian vibe. Well done there. The onion soup was a bit sketchy and wasn't nearly to the same level of quality or innovation. A dollop of cheese was in there somewhere and a piece of bread. A high & low before starting the entree. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and really enjoyed it. It wasn't the ginormous slab of fried steak you are used to, but it tasted absolutely fantastic. There was some gravy for it and the great mashed potatoes but it wasn't swimming in it, so I was happy. It was accompanied by some nice steamed/backed zucchini and tomato slice. Pretty good roll ended the event. The waitress was nice but I think she forgot us a few times being out in the remote spot. No big deal, we were having fun with our conversations. Overall a great, unexpected meal. Pro-tip: If they put you in the private dining area consider yourself fortunate and enjoy the wonky privacy. Make sure you have your patience pill or don't go out there. Finally, bring your own music or it's like a tomb. We whipped out Spotify and dialed it in.

    Biscuit with strawberry butter.

Randomly found this place after picking up a rescue dog and WOW was I amazed. I ordered biscuits with jam and they gave us some of their "strawberry butter". I dont even eat butter but I ate theirs with every bite. Not like a normal person but the entire dollop with every bite. The shrimp corn dog was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I ate 6 pieces all to myself. Everyone loved their dishes. But holy moley guacamole was their ice cream (honey and the basil peppercorn) OUT OF THIS WORLD! To top it off, they give out coffee in huge mugs. I was blissfully in heaven. Please excuse the only photo I took. My children made fun of me for it, but yolo!

The Texas toast was fragrant, and the flavours of the sandwich blended very well together. My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water.

I had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings with ranch...so yummy. Cons and the reason for the 3 stars...There weren't any clean tables and the menus were dirty...we saw that there was only one guy seating, getting drinks and serving. I'm guessing he was also the cook, because it took an hour and a half to get our food. Another guy showed up near the end of our meal and was helping take orders. They were obviously short staffed, but I was proud of the guys...they were hustling.

Since Bandera is a bit of a drive from San Antonio, I decided to make a little day trip out of it. I came across this café and immediately thought it was such a cute spot. Parking was a little tricky, with limited spaces available right in front, but it wasn't a major issue. When I walked in, I was greeted right away by two friendly baristas. I asked for a recommendation and ended up ordering one of their favorites--the Honey Badger. It was delicious and definitely a solid choice. What stood out most to me wasn't even the coffee--it was the atmosphere. The shop felt warm, welcoming, and full of community. There were families and friends catching up, and there was even a dedicated area where kids could play while everyone relaxed. The coffee shop sits above the restaurant below, giving it a cozy, tucked-away feel. After getting my drink, I settled into one of the couches and ended up playing my Nintendo Switch for a few hours. It was one of those rare coffee shops where you feel comfortable lingering without feeling rushed. Overall, if I find myself back in Bandera, I would absolutely stop by again for a coffee and maybe try one of their snacks next time. If you're looking for a cozy place to relax, work, or catch up with friends, Cowgirl Coffee is worth checking out.

I love the set up of the main dining room. I'm always a fan when you can see the kitchen preparing the dishes from your table. Hill and vine pairs their excellent food with some amazing local wines. We tried the William Chris to pair with the pork chop (which was excellent). We started the meal out with the mahi ceviche. What a flavor bomb! Highly recommend. Service was perfect. Attentive, but not overly so. I always think the price is very fair considering the quality of ingredients and the care put into the dishes. Will be back for sure when in the hill country.

We had Kristen as our server, she was so attentive and sweet. To start we tried the sweet cornbread, lavender mint lemonade, and regular lemonade. The lavender mint lemonade was one of the best drinks I've had in a while. For our meals he had the BLTA with fries and I had the avocado and lime salad with tri tip steak. Absolutely stellar food, quality ingredients and great flavors. We had leftovers for sure, lol, something to eat on the drive back to DFW the next day. For dinner, we sat outside and had Jess as our server. She was also really nice, she had quite a few tables and still managed to give us plenty of attention. We had carnitas nachos and the ground beef soup. The carnitas nachos are... unnecessarily large. lol Luckily the soup bowl was very small so I was able to help the boyfriend with some nachos. But my small effort was not enough and he tapped out of the nachos at the halfway mark. Highly recommend the nachos if you have four friends with you. =D This was a great restaurant with a lovely outdoor space. If we lived in Fredericksburg, I could easily see us making this a monthly hang out on Friday nights. If you have the chance, make sure to get in with Kristen or Jess, you won't be disappointed.
