Man, I hate to leave a bad review on a local business but people gotta know. I had a RUSTY SCREW in my burrito today. I've eaten here many times before and never had a issue but today makes me lose interest in ever eating here again. The most concerning part was that the staff thought it was not a big deal, knew it was bad but not dire, and just kept on making burritos. How the heck does a. The first time we tried this here the food was really good. We had tacos and burritos. We did enjoy the small salsa area they had. The only thing I wish this place would do is stop over salting the food. We went there a second time and I was very disappointed as my granddaughters steak burrito, the meat was far from edible! It was hard as if they had over cooked it with too much grease. She couldn't eat her food as the meat was hurting her mouth. Then my burrito was a bit too salty. The last time we went it was ok, and again we had issues with the meat being too salty. Someone there just love salt! Went here for a late lunch and ordered three different types of tacos. Counter service was fine, but nothing too different from any other fast food counter. The tacos were good, but not amazing. I'm rarely out this way on the East Side, and I wanted something tasty for dinner. I had read a few things about Backyard Taco and decided to stop by for some grub! Didn't hurt that it was for Taco Tuesday, either! I went inside (right around 5:15pm) and there was only one other guy in front of me. I placed my order for 2 carne asada tacos on flour tortillas, 2 al pastor tacos on corn tortillas, and one chicken taco on a flour tortilla. I also got a free soda by checking in here on Yelp. Score! Paid the lady my money (just over $10.00), she got my drink (probably the only thing I wasn't a big fan of...the fountain drink station is behind the counter, so you have to have one of the employees refill your drink....not too big of a deal, but I like to get it whenever I want and not have to wait for someone to become available), and I went to the salsa bar. As soon as I got one salsa filled, they called my number. Quick service! I grabbed my tacos and headed out the door to sit on one of the picnic table/benches outside. Here is how they were.................. Chicken Taco- Bomb! Probably my favorite one of the bunch. I could have had 5 of these, and left incredibly happy. I got mine with just onion on a flour tortilla. Chicken was marinated well and had great flavor. A little bit dry, but still delicious! Carne Asada Tacos- Their carne tacos come with onion and cabbage (it's a Phoenix thing). I thought I told the lady at the counter, no cabbage, but they came with it on it. It actually didn't hurt the taco at all and gave it a little more texture. The cabbage is shredded and diced so finely, you hardly notice it. I squeezed some lime over these tacos and added some hot sauce and they were pretty tasty! The carne was cooked perfect and had no weird gristle pieces or anything like that. The only thing I would do different next time, is order everything on corn tortillas. They double up the corn tortillas but only give you one flour. Nothing wrong with that, their flour tortillas are good, they just cool down and get cold faster since they are thinner. Al Pastor Tacos- These things came loaded with onion and cliantro. I got these on the corn tortillas. Once again, tasty! Well marinated meat, with some pineapple pieces in there, too! This al pastor was a bit more chewy/stringy than what I'm used to, but it was still delicious and I would get them again. Service was fast and efficient. The tacos are delicious, but a little bit small. I could have probably ate 10. Taco Tuesday has them discounted to $1.95 each. Regular price, they are $2.40. A bit skimp for $2.40, but fairly priced for $1.95. Taste was great! I'm not purposely driving across the valley for these tacos, but if I was in Mesa and a taco craving hit, I would definitely come back to enjoy some delicious tacos! Solid 4 Stars! read more

Let me start by saying that this is my FAVORITE East Valley restaurant by a long shot! The tacos are incredible, the chicken is spiced right and juicy, the carne asada has great flavor, and the chips and salsa are insanely great. Horchata is top notch too. The food is always fresh even later in the evening. Very clean restaurant with seating inside and outside. They also have some pretty cool merch online (I bought a "Will fight for tacos shirt" because I really would fight for tacos lol My only complaint is the service. I've been to all of the locations, but the one on University has staff that are downright rude. This evening (1/7/23) at about 9:40pm, the young lady taking our order was clearly not having a good day. No greeting, no thank you, and it truly seemed like a chore for her to even use her fingers to place our order. She got our order wrong and when I asked her about it, she literally rolled her eyes. I got a carne asada burrito. The meat has good flavor it's not too salty or greasy. Service was quick. Staff was nice. Place was clean. I got the burrito without beans.
