We choose and pick the skewers in the fridge area our self then bring them to our table to grill (there is an instruction on the table for how long we need to grill them) once it done, we can add some spices that is provided on the table, but the skewers it self are already marinated and tasty even without additional spices. For me, since I like spicy, I add some chilli, cumin & dry spices. Its a new experience for the kids, they really enjoy to choose, grill then eat them. The food was not worth coming here. Charcoal charge of 3.99, seasoning charge $1 per person, $1.30 per skewer. Some of the items have two skewers (ie. bacon wrapped enoki), so you have to pay for two skewers for one item (what sense does that make?). The seasonings that you pay 1$ per person for are cumin, chili powder, and sesame seeds, at least that's all they gave us. Also, overpriced beer. This place is not worth it at all, and they really should just charge an all you can eat price. I would be more inclined to give it a better rating and even return if they had ayce pricing. It just seems like they want to squeeze every penny out of you that they can. No waiters came to our table to check in EVER. Chubby Skewers is a fun place to go with your friends and out of towners! This is perfect place for chatting and hanging out. More of an interactive experience and cooking foods together. It's generally kid friendly as long as your kids don't like to reach and touch hot things. I generally enjoy getting the chicken parts and the beef that's less fatty. The brisket for me is a bit too fatty but that's not their fault. It's just the cut. The staff is always nice to us and very friendly. Pro tip is to ask for the skewer tool since it helps a lot with getting the meat off the skewer. If they see you struggling, sometimes they will bring to you. I think it's very important what time you go if you don't want to run into a crowd and a long wait. I don't recommend going on weekends around 6. Seems really busy and long wait since the place is generally cook your own food. Do the math but the membership can be worth it! read more

This place has a very interesting concept with a twist on Korean bbq with grilling your own meat. There is a metal hot box they set on your table filled with coals which you can set metal skewers of meat on top to cook. You walk over to the large refrigerators with about 8 doors and there are trays of meat, seafood, and a few veggies. I thought this was fun but the skewers of meat were about only 2" long at most. The restaurant charges you for everything, the coals, the spices mixes that you add to your skewers. I'm not sure why they don't include this in the price of the experience. There were other food items that you can order via a QR code on the table which we only ordered rice. The booths were very tight. So much so that you can't put your legs under the booth. So simple but amazing. Meat and pairings grilled over charcoal. A lot faster of a cook than KBBQ and a lot tastier. The meat which is already great quality gets so tender. My favorites are the black pepper wagyu and the lamb in the dry rub. The service is usually pretty quick. We came in with drinks and wasn't told anything, about 15 minutes into our meal the server or food runner asked us to throw away our drinks, which we were okay with throwing away our drinks with no issue, which the policy is very understandable. Then he suddenly came back, assumed we were Chinese (we're Vietnamese), and started yelling at us in Chinese even though we had already responded to him in perfect English. We actually had to ask him to please lower his voice because he was yelling so loud that everyone was staring at us, but it's okay we stayed calm and tried to enjoy the rest of our meal, just extremely disappointed. I'm honestly confused why he assumed what language we spoke when we clearly understood and answered him the first time. We grew up in America, so the whole interaction felt really disrespectful and unnecessary over something so small. We actually loved coming to this place before this, but after being treated like that, it honestly doesn't feel worth it anymore. It's disappointing to feel stereotyped and discriminated against just because of how we look. He told us his name was "Jung," but I'm not even sure if that was actually his name because it didn't really seem like he understood what I was asking him. Really making this Chubby Club membership worth it and trying things when out of state. Happened to be in the Mesa area and decided to try Chubby Skewers. A little crazy with reservations since it was Valentine's day, but they are open until 2AM. They have a menu for cooked items like the wagyu beef rice bowl, fried shrimp balls, and the cucumber salad (so good!). Fun and interactive concept grilling your own skewers. They charge for the charcoal and per person to use the seasonings. You also have to order your rice separately. Self serve skewer stations. So many options to choose from but our favorites were the pork and the variety of beef / wagyu skewers. Some meats have 2 skewers - double the price. They have a cheat sheet for how long to cook each specific meat. Overall a fun dining experience. Can't really comment on service too much since this was a DIY restaurant. They didn't really have to do anything or check-in on us since we're doing everything ourselves. Lol. I would love some sort of sauce to dip the meats in since the dusting of dry seasonings just tasted flat. All the skewers go in a metal canister and when you're done, the staff counts it infront of you. Between 4 adults, we did about 70 skewers. We've gone to Chubby Skewers three times now and it's better now than it was during their first few months of opening. First visit: The options were lackluster, the service sucked and we left not wanting to come back. We hated everything on their menu except their skewers. We especially hated the stir fried noodles or the scallops in garlic sauce. Everything was so salty and inedible. Second time: good, better variety and service was a little better. We had no complaints but nothing wowed us. Third time: WAY better than previous visits. Service was fast and friendly. Good options on their menu now. Fried rice is insanely delicious, I was surprised and expected it to be average. Cucumber salad is always good. Malatang was full of ingredients and soo numbing. There is an additional charge for getting the charcoal itself and if you use any of their seasonings at each table. Met up with a friend, before heading off to a movie. We arrived at opening time and were immediately greeted and seated by a nice young lady. She was kind enough to explain the process, pricing process and ordering. The placed immediately filled up within about a 1/2 hour. The entire staff was friendly and quick on bring out a grill, drinks and food we ordered (Wagyu Fried rice & Spicy Fries). We then ventured off to the skewer area to select our items. Everything cooks fairly quickly and we can season/dip into various seasoning selections. The food we order was good, but the spicy fries were exceptionally good and simple. Do not be misled by the look of the fries, I thought they were greasy looking but it actually was a seasoned & hint of sweetness glaze. Very addictive. The place is a fairly large place with plenty of seating and everything was very clean upon opening for business for the day. The table are adorned simply with a bucket to store your skewers after you are done with them and 4 different seasoning containers. It's a great way to eat lightly, yet filling. This Chinese BBQ skewers restaurant is quite unique. There are over 40 different types of meat and vegetable skewers that you select from several refrigerators and you cook them at your table. All the skewers are $1.30 each. The Black Pepper Wagyu Beef, Lamb and Fish Tofu were delicious. There is also an appetizer menu that you can order from. The things that we did not like about the restaurant were that you had to pay for the charcoal to cook your skewers and you had to pay for the individual seasonings unless you sign-up for their membership on their app. These should be included. Do not get a booth by the windows because the table legs are right next to the booth's seat so it is difficult to get in and out of the booth and you have to straddle them. Very uncomfortable. This place is ok. I wanted to try it, since it's quite unique compared to the other places around. I forgot to take photos :/ the concept is, it's $1.10/skewer stick. The amount of meat on the skewer stick is bare minimum, even veggies, 3 broccoli trees for $1.10.. and not even full trees. I ordered white rice with my food. I was hoping they had some sort of sauces, but they have 0 sauce. No soy sauce, no chili sauce, no wet sauces. The only way to get a wet sauce is to order an entree that has it. This made eating the meats more of a challenge. I also ordered a coconut drink, and it was a tiny box. You get little cups for water, but you have to get up and go to the area with the skewers for more water. That or fill up countless cups. The constant having to get up for water is quite inconvenient. There's pretty much no service, it's all self service. Unless you want an entree or special drink, then you scan the QR code and order it, and it's brought out to you. I was not impressed with this place. I'd come back ONLY if they brought waters to the tables and added sauces. But it was a good experience to try at least once! read more

What I didn't like about it was the size of the skewers- there were on average three small dime sized pieces of meat on each skewer. I also didn't like that I had to get up to get the skewers as the location of the freezer wasn't easy to get to, and not ideal to have to keep getting up when you're dining with others. We really liked this place! First of all, all of the servers were super friendly and very attentive. The table was cleared often and they checked in with us regularly. There is a charcoal few of $4.00 for the table (as much as you need) and 99¢ per person spice fee. You grab a tray and all the skewers you want from the fridges. All skewers are $1.20 each. Cook them yourself over the charcoal and then put the empty skewer in the container they give you. At the end of the evening they'll count up the skewers and charge you accordingly. There was such a great variety of skewers to choose from. Of course there were the standard chicken, scallops, shrimp, wagyu beef, and fish cakes. But there were also more adventurous items like beef tongue, chicken skin, and abalone. There were lots of different varieties of vegetables on skewers too. You can use a QR code to order sides like noodles and rice. They have beer and sake and soft drinks. I was so glad we tried this place. Went here with a few friends after seeing it all over TikTok, and overall it was a fun experience. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy and we were seated quickly, which was nice. Our server was friendly and gave us a clear rundown of how everything works. There's plenty of space inside, and the setup is pretty straightforward. You pay a coal fee for the grill in the middle of the table and a seasoning fee for the dry seasonings available at the table. About 10 minutes into eating, someone came by to let us know they also offer sauces and walked us through the options--we ended up trying all of them. The concept itself is definitely unique and enjoyable. You grab skewers from refrigerators stocked with different meats, then cook everything yourself and pay per skewer at the end. That said, one downside for us was the portion size. The amount of meat on each skewer felt pretty small, and with four people sharing one grill, the cooking time added up. Overall, it's a cool spot to check out, especially if you're curious about the experience, but something to keep in mind if you're going with a group or looking for larger portions. We didn't wait long for a table and enjoyed the experience. Couple of things; It is warm in there, which ought to be expected given the fact there a grills on every table. It is loud in there, between the music and the echoes of all the other conversations, this will not be a quiet dinner. Also, if you see more than four people at the coolers, then I would wait or you will be tripping over each other. There's salt & sugar by the trays for you to add to your food. Water was lukewarm as it was also self serve next to the tray & silverware. We had to ask for soy sauce to give it some flavor. I would highly recommend the cold cucumber dish as that was what we used to dip our meat & veggies in for flavor. The table we sat at the exhaust was working but just wasn't angled right as there was quite a bit of smoke coming from the charcoal while grilling our food, which was an unpleasant experience. Comes with $10 on first check, fee waived for sauce and charcoal, and birthday treat. Server comes at the end to count the amount of skewer sticks. The amount of meat on the skewers were very small. Yes the cost is $1.25, but the amount of meat and vegetables you get on a skewer are not worth it. Some items have two skewer sticks on it so it cost $2.50 instead of $1.25. The taste of any protein was just okay. I tried so many skewers and it just didn't hit with the taste and I did add the powder they have available. The place was very smoky. Ventilation was not good even thought each table has a vent right above the charcoal. It was hot and there was not good AC circulation. Service was terrible. Tried this new place out the weekend of Memorial weekend for dinner. It was pretty busy! For a table of 4, we waited for about an hour. Two of my friends were here just a few days prior so they knew what to do and went to grab all of the skewers for the table. I recommend 1-2 people go grab skewers for the table at a time instead of all going at the same time. The fridge area can get a little crowded and table space is limited. Each table has a rack with 4 dry seasonings to add to your dipping dish. There were 2 spicy, 1 cumin and 1 sesame seeds. The spicy ones were pretty good! I only wish they had some sesame oil and some sort of sauce too. Everything tasted good. The skewers are small portions but the grill is pretty small too, which works with the portion sizes. I believe each skewer is $1.20 each and they charge by the number of skewers the table eats. We also ordered 3 sodas, 3 items off the menu, and 4 bowls of rice. I forgot to look at that menu so I don't remember the names of the other items. One was crinkle cut fries in some sauce, the other is some sort of fried ball with a creamy sauce and I forgot what the last item was. Pretty sure they charge per bowl of rice. My friend also said they charge for coal change too. For 4, I believe the total was between $160-180? I originally thought they had soju here but after looking at other's photos on Yelp, I realized it was some sort of flavored soda. I'll have to try one of those next time. read more

Cool concept, yummy late night option. There's not many late night food options in the area and this place fills an empty void. The space is large and great for big and small groups. We had to wait for a bit so definitely recommend adding yourself to the Yelp waitlist before arriving. Food- I see how the self serve option probably helps keep some of the costs down but I got to say the meats don't look too appetizing when raw. The portions are pretty small on each skewer. Unfortunately our charcoal was very uneven and only ended up cooking 3 skewers at a time. They changed our charcoal a few times but it was very inefficient. The actual cook times for the skewers ended up being 2-3x longer because of this. The skewers were tasty once cooked but the inefficiency got a bit frustrating and with a time limit, I recommend coming while you're not starving. I went the other night after they just opened and surprised at how spacious the place is. They replaced the BBQ house that used to be here. It's $1.20 a skewer and you'll probably have to eat a lot of be full so it can add up quick. Cooking is east, no more than 4 minutes depending on what you get. The noodle soup I ordered was $13, and while it was flavorful, the layer of oil on top was enough for the US to invade. Open late so that's a plus.
