For the name and pictures that you see on their pages, you'd think that this is the best place in bakery heaven. In fact even when you come in the store, the limited stuff they carry, you would feel that the rest of the things must have ran out because they were so good & now you have to make do with whatever is left. So you'll order a box worth treats - donuts, rolls. But when you eat them, the only feeling you have is disappointment. Several of their items, I couldn't even tell if they were stale or just plain horrible. Next time - I went in and ordered only 2 donuts. Extremely disappointing experience. I bought their señorita bread (or "stax" as they call it now) on April 8th, and the size was genuinely shocking, in the worst way. What used to be a satisfying treat now feels like a shrunken, overpriced version of itself. The quality has dropped off massively. It used to be soft, fresh, and soaked in that sweet, buttery goodness. Now? It tasted and felt like it had been sitting out all day, honestly reminded me of a stale Little Caesars pizza box. And it's not just the bread, their doughnuts are just as underwhelming. They look great on display, but that's about it. They're dry, crumbly, and clearly not fresh, as if they've been sitting around for days. Style over substance. After a having to fast for blood draw at Sutter, decided to stop by and grab a few goodies from this location. I was greeted immediately. Headed to the croghnuts looking for the different flavors. I went with stores, this other one with chips and a cinnamon one. I only like the cinnamon one. I did grab the fillings that you can insert in. Mine was perfect but the other ones were a liitle on the too sweet side for me. Another one I tried was cherry . Not my fave either because it was too sweet. I see the prices did go up . Luv the variety to appease the various tastebuds and food moods of my household. Plus it is the only bakery in Folsom that is this culturally diverse. I notice most people either luv this place or meh. My fave is the Staxx bread. Mmm. Sweet n salty little finger shaped bread rolls with buttery n sugary top coat. Yum. They serve them hot, out of the kitchen, to order. And a consistent go to for me is the empanada. The pork empanada is savory ground pork with peas, corn, and green onions. Noticeably salted. But not over salted. It is not the best ever I've eaten, but not bad either. It satisfies my empanada fix. Also the lumpia looked and tasted more like an egg roll,It was not quite what I was expecting. The fried wrapper was soft versus crispy. It is made prior and sets in the counter. Tuesday Morning around 7:00ish Me and my husband came to their store Ambiance and Vibe was very nice and clean. Display case was very appealing you feel you wanna buy and try them all. My husband bought Staxx, Ensymada, Guava Goddess, pork empanada and pandesal. I was excited to taste all of them due to the reviews we read and how they market their products at Instagram, unfortunately I was very disappointed with the taste. Staxx was so drench with glaze. Pork empanada's good thing was it's more filling but the texture of the dough was alright. Guava Goddess was too sweet for me. Ensymada was to buttery than the bread itself. I'm new to the area just moved from Nevada. This spot is awesome. We didn't have anything like this over where I'm from. The staff is nice as can be. They were welcoming and explained all the different baked goods available. We got our order and went home. Me and my wife got to try about 10 different things in total. They're TINY...tiny and hard with barely any glaze. I keep going back thinking it's just a bad batch, but it's been consistently bad for the last month and a half now. I'm so sad about it!! Finally got to try Bad Bakers! My friend told me about this place and that they may have branched off from Starbread? I'm not sure the details but they sell Staxx which is basically Senorita Bread. We tried the hot dog cheese, dino rocks donut, apple bitso, cream cheese bitso, Thai tea donut, and BMC Crueller donut. The donuts all tasted great, but only last a day. Unlike donuts I've bought from other establishments, you cannot buy these and expect them to still taste good the following day. They went stale. We had a coupon also by signing up with our phone number to try some Staxx... but when I opened my bag, I got home to realize they didn't pack any of the Staxx for us. Kind of a bummer. Best spot for señorita bread in Sac! I stopped by on Sunday morning for the staxx. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted at the counter. On weekends, BAD Bakers have staxx available in ube, and I ordered a 20 count (half regular and half ube). I also used my phone number to redeem two additional staxx for free! Staxx were the perfect breakfast pastry to share with friends on the golf course, and they tied us over until lunchtime. Staxx are soft, sweet, and simply delicious. My friends and I preferred the regular ones, and we finished the whole box before the 18th hole! The Folsom location is in a quiet shopping plaza and very easily accessible. I used to love love love this place for their staxxs but I swear their recipe has change for them. There is much less glaze and the overall integrity of the dough is not good anymore, it's too airy-which usually is a good thing, but not for here. I also swear the staxxs were bigger before. My regular pit stop to and from Tahoe. I was reading all the 1 star reviews complaining about their stale donuts. I've never had a stale donut from them, in fact, my last order was an ube one with dulce de leche, and it was pretty good. Don't forget the ube crinkles and maybe their ube señorita bread. For me though, what hits home are the savory offerings. I always order a hotdog bun and a beef cheesy lumpia. Nothing too fancy crazy but it does what it's supposed to. It was packed last trip. If you know about "seniorita bread" you know about Bad Bakers! There should be a support group for this stuff and Bad Bakers serve it up in large quantities...the smallest box includes 15 pieces. Each piece is probably 300 calories but don't quote me on that. They also have a huge selection of other yummy options including Mochi-nuts...a great alternative to regular donuts IMO. Bad Bakers is easily my new favorite bakery in Folsom. My first experience with Bad Bakers was at the Celebrate Earth Month Yelp Experience last March. Everyone with a Yelp Passport received a bag full of goodies, which included a Monster cookie from Bad Bakers. It was the best Monster cookie I'd ever had in my life. I can still remember exactly how it tasted. Ever since that day, I knew I would have to try Bad Bakers again, but, until recently (when I went to the grand opening of Mendocino Farms), I didn't even realize that Bad Bakers had a location here in Folsom. As I know now, they are right between Crumbl and Starbucks, in the same parking lot as Mendocino Farms, across Placerville Drive from In N Out. So far, I've tried the Shorty Cake and Cookie Craving donuts, the Jalapeno and Cream Cheese pastry, and the Staxx. For the Shorty Cake and Cookie Craving donuts, the cream filling was served on the side, in a syringe. There were multiple flavors of filling to choose from, such as Bavarian Cream, Chocolate, Strawberry, Lemon, etc. The donuts themselves were phenomenal. They tasted extremely fresh, and like a lot of thought had been put into every single element of the final product. The bread was perfect, the glaze was perfect, and the toppings were perfect. These were the best donuts I've ever eaten in Folsom. I loved that they had so many flavors of cream filling to choose from, but wished for more of it (there wasn't as much cream in the syringes as I would have liked). I found that it worked best to inject the cream filling into multiple points around the donut, rather than all in one place. The Jalapeno Cream Cheese pastry was also fantastic. It was like a jalapeno popper croissant. I would definitely order this again. As to the Staxx, I probably never would have ordered these on my own, but I won some with my order, so, of course, I had to try them. "What are Staxx?" I asked. "They're our most popular item that we're the most known for," answered the cashier. Staxx tasted like a mix between a honey butter biscuit and a freshly baked croissant. The honey butter glaze was so amazing that I found myself ripping the paper bag open to get every last drop of it onto my bread. The next few times I come in, I'm planning on trying the mochinuts and the stuffed Staxx, which all looked amazing. Everything I've tried from Bad Bakers has been phenomenal, and they have quickly become my new favorite bakers around. I can't wait to come back again to try more of their creations. read more
