We drop by Handel's ice cream every once a while, but our last visit was for Father's day as I told my husband I would treat him to any ice cream he wanted, and he picked Handel's. When we arrived, the line was long. It was all the way to the street but we figured, whelp we have nothing going on, might as well join the party! To our surprise, the line moved fast, it did give us enough time to debate what we wanted. I opted for the Salty Caramel Truffle waffle scoop, while my husband opted for 4 favor sampler with Banana cream pie, Pistachio, Monkey Business and Sticky fingers. We liked all of them, but we definiely agree the ice ceam flavors are heavier here, likely taliored to a younger audience. As I get older, I find myself opting for simple flavors like Stracciatella instead of my old favorite of chocolate brownie. So while I enjoyed my Salty Caramel Truffle, the saltyness and the generous amount of caramel truffles were a bit too much for me. The portion was very generous and that didn't help the overwhelming flavor bomb. My husband mentioned that he enjoyed the banana cream pie and pistachio flavors more than the more complicated ones. The absolute best ice cream spot in town!! Whenever I'm in Folsom I always go out of my way to drop by and see what new flavors are available, but a classic is always birthday cake. Handel's is a crowd pleaser with the whole family every time with the variety of flavors they have, vintage diner ambiance and amazingly friendly staff. I've had some delicious sundaes scooped by Ashley L, I'd highly recommend asking for her next time you're in! One of the best ice cream shops I've ever tried! I've heard lots of good things about Handel's so I decided to check it out for the first time on a hot Saturday around 1pm. It was not too crowded when we arrived and there are some indoor and outdoor tables available. Lots of interesting flavors - we sampled a bunch and all were delicious! We split a 4 scoop sampler and got the following: S'mores, Chocolate PB Brownie, Mud Pie, and Blueberry Cobbler. The scoops were huge! Even with two people, we both struggled to finish. The ice cream was soooo good!! Our personal favorite was s'mores - I've never had anything like it before. It perfectly captured the toasty, graham cracker flavor of s'mores with the marshmallows and chocolate chips. The other ice cream flavors were amazing as well. Highly recommend Handel's! Every time I come here everyone is so nice. Sometimes it can get kind of busy but service is still always quick. Handel's has the best ice cream by far and there's so many delicious flavors to choose from. They have a sampler that allows you to choose 4 flavors so I get that pretty much every time I come. Mint oreo and Coconut caramel delight are my favorites but every flavor I have tried is good. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate either but the ones with chocolate that I've tasted are even pretty good. read more

I had the butter pecan. Ice cream was good, but too much pecan. Yes, too much pecan. 50% of the ice cream was pecan, so hardly get to taste the ice cream. Feed back to owner, reduce the amount of pecan. Sometimes too much of one overwhelm the other. read more

Always good experience for couple time coming to shop! Previous time I came was around 5-6 months ago. Service's prompt with nice clean store. I got my doordash order to try it again yesterday. Unfortunately i was so disappointed with the quality. Ice cream 's the way too sweet and lack of flavors. I feel it's just artificial flavor added with sugar and milk. That's it! My very first time to Handel's Homemade Ice Cream! I know. What rock have I been living under?:) Now I get the hype all you Yelpers are talkin' about. I know about homemade ice cream, and in my opinion, this is WAY better than any I have ever eaten. Which now makes Handel's my numero uno choice for my ice cream pick! Killing time and not even thinking about ice cream because I had a 15-minute wait for an appointment, I decided to walk around the small shopping area and stumbled upon Handels. Warmly greeted by Calina when I walked up to order was a nice touch. All smiles and ready to dish up my very first Handel's Homemade Ice Cream cone as I told her it was my inaugural scoop. She laughed! Sweetly, she offered samples, but I had already decided upon the Smores because...well just because! I could not believe my eyes when she dipped the scooper three times for the "one" scoop I had ordered. Wow! A most generous portion. OK, now the price is becoming more affordable!:) The ice cream exceeded my expectations. Creamy, rich, thick, and irresistible. Chunks of chocolate.....Mmmm! There are some high chairs and a long bench inside the store. But also a cute outside patio with tables and chairs in the front if you want to sit and take your time eating all that deliciousness :-).
