A new seafood boil restaurant that is pretty darn tasty. My friend and I decided to check this place out, and stray from our usual Boiling Crab. We got there are at 5, and it was empty but quickly filled up. We did our standard order: lemon pepper wings, cajun fries, shrimp/corn/potatoes/sausage. Here you order first, then find a table to sit down. They don't give you any sort of buzzer or instructions so I was wondering how the waiters would know your order if it's busy. Anyhow, our food came out pretty quick. This is where I noticed there is a lot of trash here and no recycling. They put our food in all to go containers, in a semi insulated bag. Even the fries and wings were in separate boxes, which would be trashed. Yes, it's easier clean up, but not as great for the environment. Food review: -Lemon pepper wings were a tad too lemony -Cajun fries were good -Milk cajun season was more like a medium, so be careful when ordering. It was so good though! -All the food was great When we were done, it was a bit unclear if we need to clean up or if they do since we didn't really see waiters walking around. I was so excited to see this location open down the street from me! I love the Bag o Crab location in San Leandro- I used to live in SL and would go there pretty often. The self order kiosk threw me off a bit but was easy to use and loved how everything was self serve from the condiments to utensils and everything. Never seen this at a seafood boil place before so bonus points for uniqueness! I got shrimp head on with sausage, corn and boiled egg, cajun fries, and garlic noodles. Everything came out piping hot and pretty fast. I think my only critique would be the flavor of everything. It was good, but things could have more flavor or seasoning (ex: more garlic flavor in garlic noodles and more cajun spice on the fries). The sauce I got was atomic and medium spice. It wasn't spicy but it wasn't mild so it was good but the sauce needed to be more saucy.... a lot of it was just oil in the bag and would have loved for it to be a bit thicker. Overall, I really like the space and how open it was. I gave my rating a 3.5ish mostly for the flavor and sauce aspect. Enjoyed a send-off casual dinner here for my daughter's college departure, and the messiness of eating out of a bag was so fun! Everyone's favorite was lemon pepper chicken wings, which was incredibly tasty, crispy and hot. Sweet potato fries was excellent, however, there's no need to coat it with sugar IMO as it is sweet enough. I had to shake it off for my diet. The seafood boil was good, just a bit flavorless. I liked shrimp and octopus. You'll get a bunch of amenities such as bib, wet wipe, floss and gloves, to help eat seafood. It was utterly thoughtful. Table's clean, place's new and well maintained. Seafood themed decor, bright, inviting and captivating. Service was very friendly and professional. The girl working there was sweet and polite. I recommend garlic noodle, fries and chicken wings, might try other seafood boil with a different spice level next time. Strongly recommend it even if you don't like seafood. read more

With all due respect, there are definitely better seafood boil options in San Jose. I ordered Combo #1 with the atomic sauce, which came with 1 lb of mussels, 1 lb of headless shrimp, plus the usual sides (potatoes, corn, and sausage). Unfortunately, the sauce was underwhelming--it mostly just tasted like pepper and lacked depth or richness. The seafood itself didn't taste particularly fresh either. Portion-wise, it felt a bit skimpy compared to similar spots in SJ, which was disappointing. I also tried the garlic noodles, but they were bland and not very garlicky at all. The texture was off too--almost like they hadn't been fully cooked, which made them overly chewy. Overall, the food didn't meet expectations, and I won't be returning for a second visit. read more

This is a comparison review, Ive been to the San Leandro one maybe 3times, both were excellent. This location however was a huge miss. The food is not as good, and service slightly lacking. the girl who took my order does not have great service skills. i watched two other FOH servers stay friendly and attentive to the rest of the guests. Whoever it was who rang me up, repeated the order back to me wrong so I had to go over it again with her multiple times, i wanted head off. Took her a while to get it right, unsure if she sent the ticket to the kitchen in advance, because when it came out, the boil was cold and had shrimp head on still. My bf told me to send it back but since I helped her ring it up myself (I had to punch it in on the tablet because she just did not hear it correctly) I know it is not her fault. must have been a kitchen issue. The rest of the time though, I increasingly hated the food. I watched 2 good servers refill water and check in on guests, our table did not get that service. I continued to watch our server mess up and give bags to the wrong tables, they sent us a drink that wasnt ours. Her work was chaotic almost. I didnt think they were short staffed, maybe it was her first day idk. because if the food was any where comparable to San Leandro i would justify it due to the drive alone. Bag o Crab is the best deal in town, and fun too. My first experience of Cajun seafood boil and it's a winner! The $15 lunch deal is an insanely good deal: a huge bag of tasty seafood in tasty, spicy sauce, I strongly recommend adding the corn as the free side. You have to be ok with getting your hands a bit messy (bib and napkins provided), but it's a feast by any standards. read more

first time coming here and i am shocked! it is so good!! flavor was fantastic sauce was thick whic is the consistency i like and there was tons of sauce and garlic in it. i got the atomic mix dynamic and it indeed was spicy haha. the shrimp mostly were crunchy and big but some were mushy but i didnt mind cus flavor was good, portion was good, and lunch special meal was nice! i do see on the menu it was $15 for the combo but when u order on the kiosk it is around $18 which didnt make sense to me but idk if they just didnt update their menu or what. i definetly would come back here again! read more

We arrived at 5:45, no line and the place was nearly empty. Had a Combo #2 Sausage, corn crab legs and sub'ed crawfish instead of shrimp . Added Side of noodles. Crab legs were the smallest i've ever order and flavor was Ok not great. Crawfish were filthy inside and hard to figure out how to eat. I didn't see any signs of purging prior to cooking. I'm not experienced in eating crawfish, but I wouldn't recommend ordering them. However I'm a fan of all kinds of shellfish. Corn was overcooked, but tasted OK. Potatoes were fine. Noodles were OK, nothing spectacular. They could up the flavor. Place was clean and pleasant and the staff was friendly. I suggest getting a large table so you have room to discard the shells etc. Conclusion, food is average ( generally overcooked ) with some misses. I guess I would order some other items in the future, but I'm not going to rush back. Suggest that they tune up the cooking and seasoning methods. read more

We went and got the crab combination, there is only one with a whole crab. I was a little disappointed that the crab we got was small. I'd say it's probably good for one person and cost $60. Needless to say prices is on the high side considering what you get. On the other hand, the place is clean and there is no wait since it opened only recently. I ordered the 1 pound shrimp with atomic sauce medium for takeout and it was delicious!! The sauce was super garlicky with the perfect amount of spice and the shrimp was juicy. I added corn and potatoes which were cooked well and soaked up the sauce. Eating the shrimp with the sauce poured over rice was perfect. The portions are big too, I was able to eat my meal for both dinner and lunch the next day. Everything was packaged nicely, including lemons and gloves which helps a ton while peeling and eating the shrimp! I'm always glad when a restaurant with actual good food opens up in Sunnyvale and this is one of those places. I'll def be back! read more

Excited to finally try this newly opened seafood spot! There are two kiosks once you enter but you can also order at the front table. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a question about the difference between the Louisiana and atomic seasoning options and staff were quick to answer atomic is a combo of Louisiana + Cajun seasoning. They recommended I go with the atomic seasoning and I'm so glad I did! I ordered the shrimp (head on) with atomic seasoning and added corn. The food came out super hot and the flavor was so good! As far as seating goes, there's some tables inside as well as outside. They have available gloves, bibs, floss picks, moist towelettes, and mints, all of which you can grab on your own. Disappointed! Service was bad. Walked in 2 minutes before end of lunch special and owner did not consider giving it to us. he said we only had two minutes left , lol. This place is fairly new. After paying, we sat on one of the tables, and after a few minutes, our order came in a TOGO bag. Confused, we asked the server that we were dining in. Her response was they only Do takeout but suggested we can eat there. while eating we noticed few things were missing : sausages and potatoes so I had to let them know .there was also no bucket to put our trash, lol yeah. The food is ok, not the best. The crab legs don't have enough meat. My suggestion is to put a sign on the entrance door TAKEOUT ONLY or notify your customers ahead of time and be more friendly to first time customers if you want to raise your stars read more

I think there was something really wrong with the sauce when I went today. I ordered on DoorDash for pick up and when I got the food it was piping hot which is always a good sign, the fries were good, rice was good too, but when I got the Cajun shrimp then sauce was the worst thing I have tasted. The sauces seemed like they had added water or something cold because of the way it curdled. I hope this was just a one time mistake and I am willing to be the sacrifice. We got a coupon for the place in the mail, figured we'd try it. Only meal I've ever gotten served in a plastic bag. They offer not only bibs and wet-naps for cleanup, but gloves to wear (no joke) as you pull the shells off your shrimp. A drop cloth might have been appropriate, too. luckily, I wore a shirt with an existing stain, which now has some new decorations. The food tasted OK, once I got it out of the bag and the shells off. The coupon wasn't good on the weekend, and some of the menu also isn't available on the weekend. Black Bear is in no danger, see you there. read more

Stopped by this seafood boil spot, and it wasn't too busy, which was nice! The staff was super friendly and provided great service. The only minor thing was that they didn't automatically give water; you had to ask for it, and every seafood boil place I went to they'd always provide water. Overall, though, it was a good experience! The seasoning was on point at first, but it seemed to get a little dry and clumpy as I ate, which was odd. I ordered the snow crab legs, and I got a generous amount - two clusters! - even though they were a tad small. Also got a half-pound of crawfish, which were medium-sized and tasty. I appreciated that they had all the crab utensils, extra seasonings, hand wipes, and toothpicks readily available, so you didn't have to ask for extra, you could just get it yourself, as many as you want. Oh, and the little "Bag O' Crab" tote bags they gave us were adorable! Definitely a plus. I would come back here if I'm looking for a quick meal! read more

Being a LOYAL Bag o' Crab customer to the San Leandro location, I was juiced to hear Sunnyvale had opened up a new location.... I ended up inviting my best friends to come try the new location, it ended up being a huge disappointment :/ First, I personally HATE having to pay for my food first when it should be a dine in restaurant and also being required to add tip BEFORE receiving my food so when I saw you had to order at a kiosk, pay, tip, then sit down and wait for your food to come out - already for me, I wasn't too fond of because how am I supposed to really know and believe that my tip will be worth the quality of the food??? Can we normalize not paying for our food before even trying it please. Second, we had so many small size shrimps... we ordered head on and the shrimps were no where near the size of the San Leandro location. Third, as we all started eating our food we ALLL noticed the food tasted watered down in a sense. It was more oil than flavor, you were dipping your shrimps into nothing but oil. The food was more spicy than flavorful and even then, you only taste the kick of the spice but it really has no flavor. It's just spicy. Weird. Fourth, as I finished my pound I was eating my last few shrimps and bit into one that tasted like nothing but raw shrimp ocean water :| it made me think about how watered down the flavor of the spice and seasonings really had no effect on the fish taste. mind you, we're already having a 2/10 experience and I spent HOURS hyping this place up, trying to convince my friends to try with me. On a good note, you're able to grab salt, pepper, napkins, etc. on your own instead of waiting for the waiter. A piece of advice as a Bag o' Crab connoisseur, if you want a good actual seafood boil experience and want to try Bag o' Crab, just go to San Leandro first. If you don't believe me, I dare you all to try San Leandro location first then Sunnyvale, after, come back to this post lol. The seafood boil surprisingly was good here despite the lunch price and amount you get in the bag. The Louisiana sauce was perfect and blended in nicely. When you order fries here you get a lot in a box! They jam pack it. DO NOT order the gumbo, it was not good at all. If you get a rice plate, DO NOT eat the cream salad that comes with it, I can't explain it but it was not pleasant at all. I would only come back for the seafood boil, fries and wings. First time trying - amazing experience! Customer service was top notch. We decided to sit outdoors and it was windy, staff took the extra measure to tape down the table cover and ensure nothing was flying around. Food was superb quality, ordered 1.5 lb of shrimp and cajun fries. Shrimp was very fresh, no powdery texture like you get from Boiling Crab. The sauce we chose was atomic sauce - very flavorful with just the right amount of seasoning. Fries were crunchy and crispy, could have used a tad more seasoning. Everything is self serve - drinks, utensils, individually wrapped gloves, hand wipes and salt/pepper. Located in a big plaza so parking was a breeze. Such great food, at such good value! I've been here twice for lunch, and got a seafood bag both times. DE-LI-CIOUS!!! There's plenty of fresh seafood, enough for two meals for me. I eat half, and then take the other half home to pour over pasta. The sauce is to die for, and I was stealing bread off my husband's po' boy to dip into the sauce. Next time I'll get my own bread.
