Walking around the bookstore while waiting for my order and then after my coffee break was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Bookworks is a 'must visit' in Pacific Grove if you're in town. And if you live in the area, they have a large self seating area where you can easily stay to read, study or work.

Yet the minute I paid, even though I apologized for the questions and tipped, she loudly and passive aggressively said "sorry for the wait" to the next person right in front of me and they both laughed right in front of my face. I read the other review of the person who said they'd been here a bunch and usually loved it and then had a bad interaction and are also not like the "usual" demo of PG - I am also a person of color who was made to feel the same way. Such a shame what one bad impression can leave. Multiple comments about this has to be more than a coincidence... I would come back only maybe if this person wasn't working but not going to go out of my way anymore

Good thing I pre read the menu. When I got to the front, the barista said what do you want. Not the most polite greeting. But I truly understand that this was not a normal day. So I quickly explained what we wanted. The coffee was good. A nice smooth roast. Because of the crowds, I didn't get to look around. Is it just me, or has coffee really gotten expensive.

Everyone has off days, and this may have been one of them. Nice staff of ladies at the front, excellent bagels including a lot of selections titled "Omelet-on-a-bagel" all for about $4, which is a steal and a huge selection of hot and cold sandwiches. And for you fans, a lot of boba choices which aren't for me but some of the folks there seemed to like them. The capucinnos/lattes were well prepared. The one thing keeping this from being a four star is that it is in an odd location on Forest in a so-so shopping center and the inside is not really conducive to wanting to hang out. It's more of a setting to pick up your bagels or sandwiches and move on. read more

The food here absolutely hits the spot. Always clean, and the employees recognize me as a regular and have memorized my order. I'm not usually a fan of breads, but their bagel omelets and a coffee have me coming back again and again. I've been other places where they put tons of pepper on my sandwiches and it's been impossible for me to eat and enjoy. They have ample seating inside with very soft music and a restroom for their customers. The only reason I came back was the awesome staff, they are very kind and helpful. Nevertheles, if I find myself hungry I rather drive to Starbucks, Tim's cafe, or Martha's little taco truck. I'm sad to say I will not be coming back to this place, life Is too short for bad food.
