This review is only for bagels and not for other deli foods they sell. Bagel Boy has THE BEST bagels in NYC. We have tried all of them, H&H, Essabagel etc. Bagel Boys bagels are bigger, chewier, have a good crunchy crust to them. Their bagel topping such as everything, sesame stays on the bagel and doesn't flake off. They also have a great selection of whole wheat bagel options. This place is a hidden gem, we have been coming here since they had an old store on Y and Ocean Avenue (so more than two decades) and as we moved out of Brooklyn still continue to come here for bagels because NOTHING comes close! I would not get the cream cheese as its a rip-off price wise. Also, would recommend getting iced chocolate raspberry coffee. read more

I walked into the shop today to order lunch yesterday as I do once a week. The counter service staff have gone from great to "are you kidding me". On this visit, there was a female cashier wearing a T shirt that said "FUCK THE PRESIDENT" I keep my political leanings to myself but I was totally offended by the shirt and moreover, the fact that the owner thought that the shirt was appropriate to wear while representing his business is disturbing. FWIW, the shirt clearly was older than 6 months, so we all know who the shirt referred to. I'm glad I didn't have a grandchild with me because I'd hate to have to explain the shirt. Bagel Boy Owner: You are always short on counter people, your food is beginning to sink like the Titanic in quality, and your staff should adhere to some type of dress code. I've seen this place my whole life but never stopped by until now to try it. I'm so mad I didn't come here sooner. Their bagels have the perfect amount of crispiness to bagel to cream cheese ratio. They toast it so well and the bagel is not as thick as most places have it. I ordered the blueberries cream cheese and there were actual pieces of blueberries in it. The cream cheese itself is so soft and creamy. I also ordered the scallion cream cheese another time and there's big chunks of scallions. The price is not too bad as well. Great food but the service.... no words on that. Ordered myself breakfast delivery thru the phone, I was promised to get it in 45 minutes- 1 hour. Haven't received it for 2 hours and they also shut down their phone. I had to leave my house and didn't know what to do so I wrote an email that was provided on bagel boy website. I was pretty angry because they made me late and seriously I understand the place could be busy and the weather isn't that great but at least let people know, don't just disappear and turn your phone off. On my email I asked if delivery is ever coming and what's going on in general and if I should call my bank for a charge back. I received an email back from them saying "watch your language". This place has a home-y kind of vibe, but is also pretty spacious-- with a seated bar-like area and signs directing the crowd where to form the line around. I stumbled upon this place hungry and confident due to the previous reviews I had read. My boyfriend ordered a sausage, egg & cheese on a roll (who orders rolls at a bagel place?!?) since the rolls DID look pretty fresh! To my surprise, this place has low carb bagel options! Being slightly limited on a keto diet, I opted for the low carb everything bagel, scooped & toasted, with tuna, lettuce, and cheese. Let. Me. Tell. You. This was DIVINE. I'm usually very picky about my tuna salad but this one was great and a pretty sizable amount was put on the bagel. The bagel itself was so rich in flavor too-- I was surprised since it was low carb! Although, tbh if it wasn't even low carb-- I wouldn't be mad about it. So impressed by these amazing bagel sandwiches! I got the he man on an egg bagel. There's eggs, cheese, bacon, and sausage on it. It's so filling and yummy. My boyfriend got the same sandwich but on pumpernickel. I also took a French toast bagel home and some day old pastries at a reduced price. Very excited to try them (chocolate croissants!) Nothing like a Bagel Boy Bagel in the morning! There's no secret here that Bagel Boy is the cream of the crop of bagel shops in Sheepshead Bay. On weekend mornings, the shop gets crowded with a line almost out the door so that's a clear sign of what the neighborhood thinks of it. If you're a cream cheese on a bagel guy like me then you'll love the variety of flavored bagels and cream cheese they have, specifically the blueberry bagel and walnut raisin cream cheese! Yes, you read that right! It's a combination that my girlfriend turned me onto and I have been hooked on it ever since. She introduced me into a new level of bagel with cream cheese and I now see the light! It's one of the best breakfast bagel combinations I've EVER had. If you're more of a warm/hot foods on a bagel, roll or croissant person they also serve those here too. And they make them pretty dang well! I always love the service when I'm here but the last week of November my grandma unfortunately suffered a stroke and was in the hospital. I have a big family & everyone was going to visit the next morning. Delivery came a lot sooner than what was stated. I ordered the home fries, which were perfectly seasoned and tasty. Good amount was served. An everything bagel with cheddar and jalapeño cream cheese. The complete freshness of the bagel, complimented the thick cream cheese. Also, The Maxx Sandwich was ordered and that was delicious as well. My friend that grew up around the neighborhood introduced me to Bagel Boy and I haven't been back to my local bagel spot that's just a block away. Bagel Boy is 12 blocks further but it's worth going out of my way for their specialty sandwiches and Colombian coffee. I usually get the same 2 speciality sandwiches and rotate the third depending on what I'm in the mood for. My 2 usuals are 1. cream cheese, turkey bacon and egg and 2. Peter Luger both on WWE bagels. If you come here in the evening, except that your order, is going to be absolutely nothing like what you ordered. The staff doesn't write anything down, which they should, because they're not capable of making things properly unless they do. Today I walked in when there with no one there, and still my order is incorrect. There's some haphazardly made sandwich, that isn't what I ordered at all, in my bag that I checked when I got home. Do you think that they're going to give me a refund? Nope. They'd like me to take two buses back to the location that closes in 10 minutes, to exchange the sandwich. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? You screwed up the order, you compensate the customer. Am I supposed to unravel, the $12 sandwich on the counter, before I leave to make sure that you can properly run a sandwich shop? Who knew sandwich making became as difficult as neuroscience!? Bagel Boy have always been a place I walk by or drive by but was told they have really good sandwiches! Though I am mostly in this area on weekends, it never crosses my mind to grab food from here. On a Friday morning, after doing early grocery shopping on a day off nearby, my sister and I decided to come by for breakfast. The line was pretty long- definitely can tell this is a spot of many locals here. They have a pretty extensive breakfast menu and specials but of course you can order your bacon egg and cheeses as well! We decided we wanted to get bagels and one of their specials. I ordered my regular cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and jelly, a everything bagel with cream cheese and a whole wheat bagel with veggie cream cheese. We also got the "he-man" on a roll which included egg, cheese, sausage and bacon. The ordering system is pretty orderly though it can be a bit confusing if it's your first time there (like mine) in total for 4 items, the total was around 15. Though it wasn't super expensive, it did seem to be on the pricier side compared to your reg deli orders. We got home to eat and for the tad steeper price point, you get a reallly good, soft and chewy bagel with a good but not overwhelming amount of cream cheese. Overall food here is great! Wait time for food and be 5-10 mins depending on the amount of people there are. Will be back again to try other menu items. read more

UPDATE: I ordered 1/2 lb of several deli meats and it certainly seems like a little over 1/4 lb. I say this because I also ordered 1/4lb of cheese and they all seem to be about the same weight. If you want deli meats, John's Original Deli is the best place to go to. From now on, only sticking to bagels here. Four stars for bagels. This is my go-to. Lox and cream cheese on a bagel never fails and they aren't cheap with the slices of lox either. I think capers + red onion *should* be included instead of be charged extra for it but I digress. I do have a problem with the delivery person though. They don't seem to follow instructions. This is 2x in two weeks. I had no contact delivery enabled with specific instructions to call/text once it's dropped off at the door--DO NOT ring the bell. There's a sleeping toddler in the house and both times they rang the bell. I get you might have other orders, but if you're delivering via car, call beforehand and say the order will be there in a few minutes or do it in the car after you drop it off. This is a pretty decent bagel place, but I can't say it is my favorite bagel place in all of NY. Would definitely recommend to someone wanting to try a "NY bagel" for the first time though. There is not much place to dine in and eat, so this place is perfect for a quick bite. They have a pretty good breakfast special, which includes BLT on roll for 4.25, bagel with butter for 1.75, bagel with cream cheese for 2.25 and bagel with flavored cream cheese for 3.50. Flavored cream cheese includes vegetable, lox, scallion, walnut, strawberry. Would recommend this place, but not my favorite bagel place. read more

Here's my TLDR review, for the efficient, busy, and fast-acting bagel lovers out there: Though it might seem like a standard deli from the outside, Bagel Boy delivers top value when it comes to flavor, unique bagels/spreads/sandwich options, and portions. There is a huge variety of bagel flavors, both savory (think OG everything) and sweet (french toast, anyone?), and there are also a number of low carb and whole wheat options. Same with spreads - there are a ton of them, varying from savory pimento olive to sweet birthday cake. Bagel Boy also has a full deli, with salads for sale by the pound, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and plates (both breakfast and lunch/dinner). Get there with plenty of time to spare if you are going at breakfast or lunch rush hour, because there will be a line. Get one of their flavored iced coffees or iced teas, or both. You won't regret it. Here are some more deets, if you have a little more time and attention span: The Shtick: No shtick here, just a really good Brooklyn bagel shop. The Product: I might be biased because this is my neighborhood bagel shop and I grew up getting them almost every weekend, however, I am older and wiser now, have been exposed to a number of other bagels, and these are still one of my favorites. The bagels have that perfect combination of crisp on the outside and thick doughiness on the inside that keeps me coming back whenever I need a good bagel fix. There are a million and one spreads laid out behind the counter for you to peruse while you are waiting on line - some of which are standard, and some pretty unique (birthday cake, banana walnut, olive pimento, etc), and there is a great variety of savory and sweet options. There are also a million and one bagel flavors, including a rainbow bagel, a number of low carb and whole wheat options, and, again, a great variety of savory and sweet options. My personal favorite bagel to order is a plain or everything bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese and lox (which are super fresh). Behind the case you'll also find fresh salads prepared in-house that you can order by the pound, including fish salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, and beans and pasta salads. If you're in for lunch instead of breakfast, the sandwiches are incredible (they also have wraps and paninis but I have never gotten one of those), my favorite being the Joe Special sandwich (chicken cutlet, roasted peppers, mozzarella, onion, and Italian dressing). The deli meats and cheeses are fresh and delicious (Boar's Head), and the sandwiches range from classic cold cut combinations to unique chicken cutlet (or grilled chicken) sandwiches. Lastly, Bagel Boy also has pre-made to-go case, which is just as delicious as the freshly prepared versions. Oh, and the iced coffees and teas are amazing (get the hazelnut iced coffee or the mango iced tea). The Space: It's huge in here, and during popular times the line often wraps around the whole back half of the store. The line doesn't exactly move very fast and if it's totally wrapped, you could be waiting 30+ minutes for your sandwich. (It's worth it, I promise!) There is a decent bit of seating to dine-in, but the majority of people typically take their food to go. There is a parking lot right behind the store, but it is not Bagel Boy dedicated and is often full, however there is metered and free street parking on all of the surrounding streets. It is conveniently located one block away from the Sheepshead Bay train station. The Staff: The staff here are very competent, helpful, and efficient. Make sure you remember who took your order, because you'll follow that person all the way to the register! Price/Value: Definitely one of the more reasonably priced bagel shops for NYC ($7 for a bagel with lox, $5 for standard BEC, $6 for a breakfast platter, and less than $10 for wraps/paninis/sandwiches. One of the best bagel places in my neighborhood. They always have lines during rush hours(8-10am and 12-1pm), so make sure you calculate extra time for yourself. They have a lot of coffee types ( hazelnut, French vanilla, decaf etc ) and few tea choices.
