Somehow a single bagel with schmear comes out to $8.56 before any tip. Respectfully that's insane for what it is.

    Remaining bagels at 1500 (9/26/24)

With all the writeups on various newbie bagel biz, you'd think the greater Puget Sound region just discovered this versatile carb canvas. A total bagel OG indie since 1988...36 years!...in Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood. I used to live next door and acclimated to that pleasant scent. Well except way back when, seeing rolling bagels on fire. Another anecdote entirely, I digress. I've bought countless bagels for home and for work way back when, preYelp. Totally surprised that I haven't penned an actual post. Well today I stopped in during the last business hour (3pm) and was surprised to see such a surplus in the display case (9/26/24). I ordered a plain bagel ($2.75), toasted, then with an added schmear of cream cheese ($3). As vanilla as it gets. With tax & tip, this was $7.35. Wow. Seriously. I paid up and satiated the need for dunch/linner while on a budget and on the go. Having recently stopped by Toasted in the UDistrict and Eltana on Capitol Hill, I was feeling nostalgic and stopped in at Bagel Oasis. I just can't get over how much bagels, like everything else, has become so pricey.

This is the top bagel shop in the region at the moment. At the very least, top 3. It's the one store I keep returning to while waiting for a new place to open soon. But it's not consistent. I sat and watched five or six batches of bagels come out of the kitchen one morning, and every batch was cooked to a different degree of brown (even factoring in different flavors). And the edge-to-edge thickness was not consistent in some bagels. Oh, and they crowd the bagels so they up with flat sides like a bad donut. But the flavor is good. And I can fix them at home when reheating in a convection oven. Will definitely be returning.

Beacon Hill on a salt bagel

I've been coming in a bunch lately after not having visited for years... I'm always so happy! It's usually quite calm inside so the service is fast. I've had the pork sandwich with pikliz, the Beacon Hill (turkey and bacon), and last time the jalapeño cream cheese... All were really good! I'm not sure why they aren't crazy busy all the time, I guess there are a lot of new bagel places in fashion. I love those places too, but Bagel Oasis has stood the test of time and always treats me right.

Original order: they forgot the lox

0/5 for service. When I walked in at 2 30pm on a Thursday, 2 people were making bagels, 0 people greeted me. A woman in line said she'd been waiting over 5 minutes already. One of the bagel orders came out, and the person had to come back to the counter because his bagel was missing lox. After 10 minutes, the woman in front of me was finally able to order (the first time either of the people behind the counter acknowledged her) - she had to wait 10 minutes for 6 bagels and cream cheese to-go!!! I ordered a bagel with lox, and it was only after I got home that I realized that they forgot my lox, too. I returned and they kindly remade my bagel sandwich. However, they only added 1/2 a slice of lox to each side! The standard is at least 3 slices of lox, so you get a nice thick bite. What a waste of both $15 ($20 with tax and tip!) and time.

$20 for a toasted everything bagel, scallion cream cheese, this sad amount of lox, 12oz drip coffee, and tip. Overpriced and overall just okay

The bakery and sales area take uo the entire ground floor of an unassuming house in a residential neighborhood. Clean, light and airy atmosphere with plenty of room to work. The metal shelves were superbly organized and packed full of bagels. Easy to get to by bus from downtown. Charming and cheerful staff. I went on a Saturday morning around 1030 and there was only a small line, which moved very quickly. This is not a cafe - you are here to buy bagels and the fixings. Okay, they also sell coffee and tea, muffins, and a yummy chocolate chip cookie. (Had to try one if I'm coming all the way from downtown!) Bagels were baked perfectly. Each one looks as if it was made individually- the level of detail of the flavors, rhe color, the texture. Nice chewy crust with a light interior. They toast up beautifully (at home - no slicing or roasting at the bakery). This is a bagel that says "hey, have another one" rather than the kind which lay in your stomach. I didn't try the spreads, but have absolute confidence that they would be marvelous. Worth every second of the 30-minute bus ride. Heck. Go out of your way to come here!

There is no seating, and you will need to take your items to-go. The bagels are not sliced, and you can either rip and dip or slice them at home. I tried the plain, sea salt, sesame, and poppy bagels with scallion cream cheese. The bagels themselves are okay. The plain was my favorite, and the sea salt bagel was too salty for my preference. The chocolate chip cookie was absolutely incredible. It is definitely among the best in Seattle. The cookie had the perfect amount of sweetness, salt, and chocolate. It's definitely worth trying.

Infact their staff also plays tricks, - especially one of their girls. Once I asked her if they are getting more of fresh bagels, she said no and gave me the bagels from the shelf. While giving me a bag, a new batch came out from the back, and so then she changed just 2 of the bagels, not all. Since this was my first time, I didn't really think much about this. For next few weeks I again went couple of times , some other people person were on the counter, who was gracious enough to always tell me that yes a new batch is coming up but I might have to wait for 10-15mins. I waited and every-time got warm bagels. After few weeks I again went, and the same first girl was there and I asked her the same question , she again said no, so I insisted if she can go back and check (it was just 9am only), she said it more firmly to me - "I am telling you there is no more fresh bagels coming in". So I took whatever she gave me from the shelf. While walking out , from the window I saw a big tray of fresh bagels came out. But since the line was long, I didn't want to get into the conversation with that girl, so I ignored it. This happened one more time recently as well. So not sure if that one particular girl didn't want to give me fresh ones or maybe she wants older bagels to sell before giving out fresher one, but since this happened 3 times, I am not impressed. I had also bought their bagels once from their pop-up market and it was also not that fresh. By the way, their small cafe has good ambiance if you want to sit there and enjoy their bagels and coffee right there. Whatever I write above, I will still keep coming back since they are my 2nd fav bagel shop in Seattle area.

On my most recent visit, I also tried the black sesame bagel with butter. That's an easy fix though, and I'll just ask for it toasted a bit longer and less butter next time. I really love the location of this spot and am hoping to check out their other location soon. They share a great outdoor seating area with Sea Wolf Bakers and also have a small amount of indoor seating. There's usually a line on weekday mornings and a longer one on weekends, but it moves surprisingly quickly, so the wait has never felt unreasonable. One thing I especially appreciate is how light these bagels are compared to some other Seattle bagel shops. They have a great chew without feeling overly dense. Service has always been friendly and efficient. I still haven't tried any of their fish sandwiches, but that's next on my list. A few things to consider: I've never had a bagel on its own here, only a bagel sandwich. So I don't feel as though I can give an expert opinion on the bagels. However, they do work very well for the sandwiches. The everything bagel is absolutely loaded with seasoning, and has an incredible saltiness (I'm a salty man, so this is a good thing). I feel as though this elevates the eggs to a new level. I was immediately drawn to a pastrami breakfast sandwich, because it's a top tier meat. This will feel more like you're eating thin roast beef because of the color, but it's still pretty good. I do think that this sandwich needs some acidity to balance out all of the fat, so grab some hot sauce at the counter. Overall this was a great sandwich, and I would get it again. That being said, I feel like the bagels are lacking due to a fault in a core ingredient. They all come with potatoes, and I think that they're either boiled or not quite roasted enough.
