Although the bagels are pretty good, the prices aren't really worth it. $10 for a decent size bagel with ham & cheese, 50 cent bag of chips and a small drink. The sandwich alone is about $7 which is definitely pricey for not a lot of ham and cheese on a bagel. The staff needs to be more customer service friendly as well because they can be a little cocky. Cute, 50s theme breakfast place. Owner is very nice and businesslike, however, the girl handling the cash register was rude and cold...that really killed the mood for me. I ordered a spinach and mushroom scramble thinking it was an omelette type thing, and got asked what type of bread I wanted...I ended up with a rye bread sandwich. This place has good bagels. But their beacon egg and cheeses are not good. I really wanted them to come through cause it's so close to my house but they seem physically incapable of making crispy beacon. Every piece of beacon is like eating a nice big rubber band. I recently moved to Matawan after living in Northern Jersey and since North Jersey has the best bagels anybody could ever ask for, I was searching to see if there is a place that would closely match up. I ordered here once and I never will again. I called in my order and ordered an "everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese". The person who picked up the phone did not speak very good english at all. When I gave him my order, I knew that he did not hear me correctly so I repeated myself several times and said, please make sure it is Vegetable cream cheese. The man on the phone got frustrated with me because I repeated myself several times about what cream cheese I wanted because i KNEW he did not hear me correctly. He eventually pushed me off of the phone and hung up on my mid-sentence. When I arrived, the order was indeed wrong. The man thought I said "regular" cream cheese. When I told them that the order was messed up, they gave me a new bagel which took 10+ minutes to toast and slab veggie cream cheese on and not to mention it was burnt to a CRISP. I barely ate any of it. The least they could have done for screwing up my order was give me a non-burnt bagel. I will not be returning to this bagel shop. read more

Great place for bagel sandwiches. They have other types too, as well as milkshakes & assorted baked goods. On weekends it can be a bit a long line waiting to get your order, so obviously it's popular. Prices are average. Nice selection of juices too. read more

I'd say they're the best bagels in Matawan. That said, when you put anything besides butter or cream cheese on them, the bagel no longer is the star, which for me means they're not THAT good. If I have the time, I go over to bagel boy in Old Bridge, but since that's a little out of the way, my bagel consumption has gone down. Coffee is decent. Lines are very long, so maybe I'm more particular about my bagels than most people. You wouldn't ever really want to sit inside at the tables and eat. read more

I am never going to Bagel Time on the corner of 516 and 79 again. I went there this morning to get cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese for the ladies in my house. A young man in his 20's took my order which was promptly started by the employees, all of whom looked like they were from south of the border. After a short time, I paid for the bagels and the young man asked a worker if they were ready. I did not hear her answer, but apparently they already were, which was very fast service in my opinion. That's when the 20-something guy says the following, and I quote, "You didn't answer me. Are the cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese ready? I just want a yes or no answer. I don't need your f----ing attitude. Are the cinnamon bagels with cream cheese ready or not? When I ask you a question I want an answer. I don't need you giving me a f---ing attitude for no reason. I don't like your f---ing attitude." That is NOT the way you talk to your employees, sorry. I will go to Eli's Bagels from now on. read more

I can count twice when they were scheduled to be opened and no one was there. And another time when they have had no bagels for a week. Called 30 min prior for an egg/grilled chicken omelette one morning and when I got there They didn't even start making it. Also it was extremely expensive. Cost $11 where else where they all charge significantly less of $6 . Asked for ketchup and the guy drizzled very light ketchup on top and the chef put the Fork and knife on top of the omelette itself. We stopped in to grab a breakfast sandwich on the run and were very impressed. It's a small little place with a small parking lot that is constantly packed. However, once you enter the doors you step back in time to when people cared about the quality of food and made something you'd love. It's a small little spot but has the staple breakfast to-go orders. Their bagel selection is vast (and very delicious) and their grill is going non-stop. The decor is right out of the 50's or 60's but nicely done and new (just has that vintage look). Their menu board is behind them and the staff is helpful with your orders. It's priced right so you're definitely not overpaying. The only negatives are that its a tight squeeze in there and there's no real organization of a line so it can make ordering an interesting time. I've been coming here for awhile now and I have to say their service and food has gone down hill since they've opened. Yes, they do have good bagels, that being said, their service stinks. I can think of 3 separate occasions where they've argued with me about what I ordered. Once they even forced me to put tomatoes on my sandwich when I asked them not to. What is the big deal? Just take them off. My lettuce is ALWAYS soggy on my sandwiches. I def think their breakfast is better than their lunch. It is always packed in there and there is no rhyme or reason to their line. Ordered a sandwich off the menu, you would think I made it up. Two sandwiches and a coffee for nearly $20. Would prefer a sit down breakfast. Will no return. Sadly, this used to be my favorite breakfast joint. Not sure what happened but the sandwich rolls became awful. Maybe they changed bakers or suppliers but their old rolls were a treat in themselves. The new rolls become too soft to support any breakfast sandwich and steam inside the aluminum foil they're wrapped in resulting in a soggy mess. Coming from Brooklyn, we know bagels. And so do these guys! Big, chewey outside, soft inside. Generous with toppings and sandwich fillings. Love the kitsch inside but my favorite part is the garden out front with their own herbs and peppers and such. Staff is fast and friendly considering how busy it is on a saturday morning. Also the complaints about limited space and bad parking? Last time I checked an empty space was kind of a bad thing for a business.
