We had convenient parking near the entrance and were greeted by hosts right when we entered! This was my first time at a Bahama Breeze in awhile and I had forgotten about their unique Caribbean atmosphere. A live musician was playing the guitar and singing on their spacious outdoor seating area with an array of seating options! Inside large leaf fans span perpendicular to the floor and walls of windows bring in outdoor lighting creating a beach effect. We ordered two appetizers to start, the tostados which were plantain based nachos, as well as goat cheese dip paired with toasted bread crisps. Both dishes were delicious! I asked for hot sauce and the server was able to recommend their unique brand. It was on par with a great kick! The goat cheese dip was addicting it was hard to stop eating it! Our meals came perfectly spaced; the fish taco and jerk chicken sandwich, matched with a cup of black bean soup and fries (respectively). I'm a hard core critic of French fries and often judge a place solely on fries. Well they passed the place with soaring scores! These fries were perfectly seasoned and cooked by an expert. The tacos were slightly bland but made better when the leftover nachos were added to the taco! We were so full at this point that we requested to-go containers with our checks. Our server kept our drink full and provided friendly and speedy service throughout our meal! This was a great time and delicious meal! The wife and I went back this afternoon for a couple of drinks and a quick bite to eat. Leann B. Was not working and I am not sure if she even works at this place anymore. As we were seating ourselves at the bar I noticed a sour smell. We spoke with the bartender, she was nice enough so I ignored my gut feeling to just leave and we put in an order for a cocktail and a beer. My wife ordered the "pain killer" I got the Aruba Red beer. YUCK! My glass was filthy and had a chunk of something floating in it. Not sure how the bartender could miss that??? My wife got some weird version of the Pain Killer. It was nothing compared to the last ones we got and was very foamy and was missing the nutmeg on top. This is an 8 dollar drink!!! I have never been disappointed with the quality of cocktails in this place. We had had enough and paid our tab never to return. This place has terrible management and is quickly showing its age as the cleanliness is not up to par and the over 8 employees were all hanging out at the hostess station as we left, and not one of them took note to thank us for visiting or even opening the door for us as they have done in the past. First time here. Loved the service. Waiter was on point. The new Calimari was awesome. Nice and crispy. Ordered the coconut shrimp tacos. Not a fan of the strong vinaigrette taste from the coleslaw. I hope my review contributes to a wake up call for the management at BB. The Orlando location is excellent by comparison. While my family's food was generally OK, I had a goat curry that was borderline inedible (it was amazing at the Orlando location). The first time it was brought out, it looked like it was mulch from home depot rather than food. No sauce, and the meat chunks were so dry they looked like tree bark. Had it not been on rice, you could not have guessed it was food. The server should have known better than to serve it. I should have dared her to try a bite. When they brought it back they simply doused it with sauce. Yuck. With plenty other decent places nearby, there is zero reason to go back. read more

I was not impressed at all and here are the reasons: 1. I waited an hour for my meal (shrimp tacos and fries) 2. During my wait, the server did not check in on us as frequently as I would have liked. Nor did she provide reassurance that our meal was on the way. To be honest, my party and I even forgot what our waiter looked like bc she didn't stop by our table regularly. 3. Once my food came, it was room temperature:-/ 4. The staff seem confused and unorganized. And there was no apology or compensation for our extended wait time. I've visited the Bahamas breeze location in Orlando and I loved it. So I'm hoping that my mediocre experience at the Gainesville location is only due to the fact that they are just opening and the staff may still be in the process of learning their job tasks. So, I'll wait a month or so to return. Hopefully, all the kinks will be ironed out by then! read more

Went to try this place out with my fiancé last night and had High hopes. After asking the hostess about seating and was told an hour and a half wait we decided to go to the bar. Immediately found seats and the bartenders quickly cleaned up our spot and asked for our drinks. Drinks were served relatively fast however took 20 minutes to be checked on again and we immediately placed our order. The food came out relatively quickly but our bartender and the other bartenders never wanted to check on us. I understand they were busy, but several times I asked for other drinks and waters and they never came out. Bartender never checked to see if we were enjoying food or if we needed anything else. So we got our check as quickly as we could and left to drink elsewhere. Food was average and drinks were great, atmosphere was cool but the outside patio which we looked out to a view of a busy road. This place is 4 stars when you go during happy hour (4-6pm and 9-C). Its a solid 3.5 stars when everything is regular price. We especially like the drinks. There are drinks here you can't get other places. I had the Painkiller last time and it was just right. I had a rum drink flight today. I liked 2/3 of those. Meal-wise I had the Taste of Jamaica this time. The empanada was great, the chicken was fantastic! The pork was meh. Next time I'll just get their half chicken. It had great flavor and was so moist. I want more of that. Daughter had the tilapia and shrimp Oscar. She said it had good flavor and the portion size was perfect. Hubby had pork tenderloin which he said was "fine". He's a man of few words when it comes to food but will usually tell me when he doesn't like something, so take that as you will. We'll be back soon for sure! read more

This location is being built up for Gainesville and Bahama Breeze is an excellent addition. The portions are nice and there a variety to choose from for even the pickiest eater. I went for lunch and ordered the coconut shrimp and a side salad. My family ordered from the dinner menu the Cuban sandwich, salmon, mashed potato, and green beans. All of the entrees were fresh and came out piping hot. Everyone in attendance seemed to be having a great time. read more

We've been to other Bahama Breeze locations in Orlando but this one is new to Gainesville. This was our second visit. Our first visit was within two weeks of their grand opening and there were consistency issues on that visit. It was busy and nothing was coming out of the kitchen ...just didn't have their act together. Today's visit was a late lunch/early dinner at 3pm. The restaurant was fairly busy for that time of day on a Friday. We were seated immediately. Between the two of us we ordered the firecracker shrimp appetizer and the chicken quesadilla appetizer both which were really good and probably would have been enough for us to be honest but our eyes were bigger than our bellies and we also had an order of the lunch portion coconut shrimp tacos with a Cesar side salad and the steak potatoes and broccoli. The tacos were light and crisp. The medium rare steak had great flavor. Any of our dishes I'd order again. This visit was much improved over our first try. read more

Only giving 2 stars because the waiter was awesome, but when I go to a restaraunt with food prices over $20 a plate you can't blame me for expecting the food to not be bland or frozen! I thought I was going to be delighted with amazing Jamaican style food. Instead I was presented with flavorless, frozen shrimp and mahi that tasted like the freezer it came from. The appetizer wasn't so bad aside from the under cooked slime wings but all four of us recieved our food and couldn't finish half of it nor could grasp the thought of why we would want a to go box. The black beans, cheese, & rice completely overshadowed (& overpowered) the plantain. The conch appetizer (5 balls) had little flavor-- they were the least tasty of any I've ever eaten, & the average coconut shrimp were oddly overcooked yet greasy. Service was fast & friendly enough, but the restaurant acoustics still suck-- who wants to hear loud conversations. I was a guest this time; I surely won't return of my own volition. read more

For a chain restaurant the food is actually really good. We went on national margarita day for the $2.22 special. Surprisingly these were their regular margaritas and not watered down or smaller drinks. There was a hour wait to be seated but I made a reservation via website, which I recommend doing on weekends. Staff was great. Took 25 minutes to get our first drinks but that's expected I guess on a busy night like this. Every reorder after was much faster. Food seemed pretty authentic and fresh. I have several friends from the islands and this place is very very close to what I've had at their houses. read more

It is a shame that a restaurant, predominately thought of as a seafood restaurant, especially in Florida, has nothing on the menu except "farmed" seafood. The shrimp, the salmon, and especially Talapia, and Pollock, are all farm raised. This is all they have to offer at B.B. WE went there with a $100 gift card. I got the fish tacos, three tacos, served with Pollock, (the fish that sushi restaurants use for fake crab, because it has no flavor) and an extremely small amount of it. They were completely flavorless, and less fish, on all 3 tacos combined, than you would find on a McDonalds fish sandwich...which is also Pollock. My wife got shrimp, which we were told was "Gulf caught"...not a chance. The shrimp, which were also completely void of flavor, were all exactly the same size, small and colorless. They looked like Pringles potato chips, exactly the same. A dead giveaway for farmed shrimp. It's bad enough to have nothing but farm raised, unhealthy, seafood, but when the servers try to tell you otherwise, that's really sad. We used the rest of the gift card at another restaurant. This place is disappointing at best, especially if you want Florida seafood. Avoid this place. read more

Good food. My go-to place for Sunday. The trouble I have with this restaurant is consistency in something which I like. The spices on the jerk chicken has never been consistent. ( I am talking like 4 occasions ) I usually don't review till it's been tested atleast 3 times. I guess some cook has bigger hands then others feel things in how much spices got rub on the piece !!
