Thai menus seem to repeat themselves over and over. It's hard to find a unique menu. Well, I think Bai Mint has done it. We stopped in on a Saturday for lunch and it was empty. Started with Thai coffee (i love Viet coffee and Thai tea but I don't think I've ever had a Thai coffee - spoiler, it's a lot like Viet coffee) but the server said she likes it with coconut cream, so I tried it that way. That was a tasty coffee! I think it was $2.50-3. Large cup, prob 14-16 oz. Boyfriend ordered a catfish dish and I had a chicken/shrimp/crispy basil dish. I can tell you I've never heard of or seen crispy basil. The dish was pretty remarkable - flavorful, rich, filling and plenty of leftovers. The catfish was tasty too. I've been meaning to write a review of Bai Mint for a while now. I've been coming here for years, since they first opened their doors. They used to blow me away with the quality of the food. DO NOT COME HERE. It really hurts me to write this review. If you read my previous review, you'll see that I used to love this place and would drive here from Milwaukie for the excellent soup. Tonight I called in and ordered Tom yum noodle soup. Instead, they gave me pad kee mao noodles. I came specifically for soup as my wife and I are sick. Instead of offering to either make Tom yum noodle or to comp the pad keep mao, the server kinda shrugged and muttered "sorry man" in a way that implied "shit happens". It's hard to describe the attitude accurately, but if you read other reviews, you'll know what I'm getting at. It seemed to me that this was such a common occurrence that it didn't even faze him. I've never returned food in my life, and being in my fog of sickness I initially decided to suck it up and pay for the pad kee mao. As soon as I got to the car it occurred to me I had paid and tipped for food I didn't want from a person who obviously didn't care about the misstep. I walked back in less than 3 minutes later and asked for them to exchange the pad kee Mao for what I actually ordered. They told me to come back in 10-15 minutes. When I returned, the server had "raised the authorization" of the transaction I had signed for earlier to cover the difference in cost between the Tom yum noodle soup and the pad kee mao. Apparently the difference in cost was a dollar, which was important enough for them to collect after having made me wait and feel bad for asking for the correction. My concern was not about the difference in cost, but that they had re-run or altered the transaction without me being present with my card- which is similar to what I've read in reviews where people have had strange unauthorized transactions on their card. When I asked him if they can keep re-running my card in the future and mentioned the accounts of this happening to previous customers, he explained no, but in a hurried and frustrated way that made me feel he gets asked about it a lot. In all honesty I'm pretty blown away by the whole thing. Every restaurant I've ever worked at would have corrected the order, served me the right food, and comped the meal, or at the very least would have given me an apology with eye contact. We've been coming for years, but tonight was our last visit. I had sung their praises to co-workers just this week, so I'll make sure to update them with my experience. The people that used to work here were always so kind. Maybe a better restaurant will open in this one's place! read more

So hey...have you noticed that this restaurant has gotten lots of 5-star reviews and lots of 1-star reviews? That's interesting, isn't it? And here's the thing: All these reviewers are right. Often my experience with Bai Mint Thai is "WOWZA!" -really great. The salad rolls are perfect, lots of greens 'n' shrimp all rolled up into a yummy, cone-shaped doobie. Other times, they fall kinda flat and I mostly notice the stick of celery that provides the structural backbone to the thing. -not so good. The same is true for the entrees. Perhaps they have different cooks, or cooks in training...I don't know. But sometimes, for example, the crispy chicken basil comes out delicious and other times the bits are noticeably floating in oil. Point is, the quality of the food is up and down depending on when you go. Our experience with the staff, though, has been uniformly positive; our servers have always been courteous and prompt. Overall I like this place, and when the food's done right, it really is delicious. read more

I am often disappointed by Thai Food lately-lackluster flavor, miniscule portions or not-so-fresh ingredients. Both times I picked up lunch at Bai Mint were everything I could ask for in Thai food-or any food. Good sized portions, depth of flavor (as long as you get it a bit spicy-what is up with people saying the food has no flavor when they got mild? Where do you think the flavor comes from?) The chicken pad thai is delicious-big strips of tender chicken I cut up before I eat it, the nice gluttonous blob that is my favorite type of pad thai, where the spices have already soaked into the noodles, and every bite filled my mouth with a welcome fire from the chilies, and a nice zing from the lime and spices. The Tom Yum soup with shrimp was the closest I've found to my favorite, though I could have taken chunks of tomato rather than cherry tomatoes. Nice sized shrimp that tasted very fresh, with a perfect blend of mingled spices that tasted like they were slow-cooked with love. This is a great recipe and far superior to most places I have tried. Edit: Knocking them down a star-Iceberg doesn't belong in my salad rolls. Many dishes are not available spicy (made ahead maybe-how hard is it to add some dried chili when reheating even) and their peanut sauce is very bland. read more

Everything I had here was delicious! I picked up a few dishes to bring home and feed myself, my boy, and my friend. Got the Larb, Voncano Beef, and Pad Ke Mao. Yum! Yum! Yum! Flavor was amazing in each of them, there was plenty to feed the three of us (with leftovers), and I've been wanting to go back since. I normally don't order beef dishes because most places use cheap beef or cook it badly, so I was a little nervous going into the Volcano Beef dish. I was absolutely shocked at how great it was! The beef was in cubes, cooked perfectly so it was tender all the way through, and was buttery enough to prove it wasn't a cheap cut. The balance of flavor between the peppers, the mango, and the sauce was magnificent. I will definitely be ordering this again. They did a great job in everything else too, but this dish stood out because of the unexpectedness. The restaurant itself is cute, clean, and well taken care of, unlike its Thai neighbor across the street (not a terrible place, just kinda run down). The staff has always been very friendly to me, and the prices are pretty average when it comes to Thai food. Overall I'd say it's a great little spot in Woodstock. Update: They offer delivery service! Rejoice!! Tues-Sun from 4:30-9:30 your food can be delivered (within about a 2 mile radius I believe) for only $3. this is my 2nd bad experience with them... After not going there for years and living in the neighborhood i decided to give them a 2nd chance... that last for maybe 3 dinners.. I ordered takeout one night.. Massuman Curry... When i got home and was eating i noticed that the vegetables were not cooked at all... eating raw potatoes is not very good. They were not soft at all.. After seeing that the vegetables were not cooked i was weary of the chicken not being cooked as well since there chicken is kinda strange to begin with.. So after calling and letting them know my meal was wayy undercooked, the guy who answered the phone instead argued with me.. he said the chicken could not be undercooked because they do not cook it.. it comes cook and prepackaged!!! What is up with that? A restaurant cannot cook its own chicken they order it precooked? no wonder its so weird... and probably a good thing since they seem to not be able to cook vegetables even... the guy on the phone was rude and after spending $40 on curry to be unsatisfied and argued with i will NEVER go back!!! On our first visit to this newly opened spot we ordered our default "check out the new Thai restaurant" items: Tofu Salad Rolls Mussamun Curry Pad Kee Mao Hot tea The Pad Kee Mao was available with squid, so I tried that. My vegetarian wife opted for tofu in her Mussamun Curry. Salad Rolls - eye pleasing presentation with shredded vegetables on the side. The rolls were combined crunchy veg with soft rice noodle and tofu. Mussamun Curry - fresh cut vegetables in a richly flavored curry (is there really cinnamon or a close relative in there?) served with long grain white rice. Pad Kee Mao - onion and peppers were lightly sauteed and still crunchy, the squid well cooked, and the requested "medium plus" heat left a mild warmth in my mouth. Service - we were in at lunch on their second day of operation and our waiter's first day of work. There were three tables seated when we arrived and three more arrived while we were eating. The waiter was attentive and not overbearing. Decor and table settings - wonderful flatware and place settings. The Muzak a bit of a disappointment but it was at a low enough volume to be ignored. Menu - Has the familiar Thai standards. However there are some items we will return for and don't recognize from other places: Chu Chee Catfish, Three flavors halibut, Shrimp cashew with fresh mango, Roasted Duck with egg noodle soup (maybe not paying attention ...) . Daily lunch specials for $7.00. Overall a great addition to the neighborhood, if you live north of Hawthorne you can get food as good without the drive south. We look forward to going back and trying more items from the menu. read more

Before jumping into this review, I must confess that I have Bai Mint on speed dial on my cell. This is my go-to option for Thai food to go or delivered in the greater Woodstock/Reed/Creston-Kennilworth area. I can't speak much to the dining in experience, but I can say that these guys make some excellent Thai dishes and process orders very efficiently. A typical to go or delivery order at our house consists of Tofu Fresh Rolls, a bowl Tom Kha soup, a curry and a noodle entree. That's about $30 for a huge, varied meal for two. You really can't go wrong with any of the "classic" noodle dishes - Pad Thai, Kee Mao, See Ew, etc. If you're feeling a bit more exotic, I recommend the Roasted Duck Red Curry. I've always had great customer service experiences from everyone I have spoken to over the phone and in the store. Though this might not be the best Thai cuisine I've had in Portland, it is awfully good and incredibly convenient. I'm a fan, and I'll certainly be back. read more

Bai Mint gets one star, if for no reason other than shattering the long held illusion in my head that there's no such thing as bad Thai in Portland. Honestly, that fact alone hurts my soul. To make matters worse... Angel Wings: Deep fried, stuff boneless chicken wings. Honestly, the thing dreams are made of! What the Bai Mint menu doesn't tell you is that you're only getting two of them for $8. Worse, compared to other places, they're pretty small. House Special Noodle Curry and some Wide Noodle Dish: Honestly, the only thing distinguishing these two dishes was their consistency. Flavor-wise, they were way too similar, which is odd since they didn't read that way on the menu. The curry was crazy thin. And the noodles hard to find. On top of that, there were only two pieces of beef in the container. The wide-noodle dish was a disaster. Instead of wide noodles, we were served a gelatinous mound of wide noodle brick, which had to but cut up in order to serve to four people. Salad Rolls: Smelled like gym socks. I have never experienced this anywhere else before. I do not want to eat gym socks. The Kids: Here's the deal; Thai food has always been my ace-in-the-hole for the kids. Don't know what to make for dinner, don't know what to get for take-out...solution: Thai food. Except, this is the one and only time I saw grumpy faces and unfinished plates followed by murmurs of "that was gross" and "I can't eat this." One the plus side, while it may no longer be impossible to find bad Thai food in Portland, at least there's only one. Plus a million other better choices right around the corner. read more

We usually order out Thai from Tom Yum (for the past 15 years) but this time wanted to give this place a try. We ordered over the phone our VEGAN options (Drunken Noodles, Pad Prik King & Fresh Tofu Rolls) and they were ready on time for pick up. The entree's were delicious & just as we had ordered, but we got Shrimp rolls instead of the Vegan Tofu rolls & this was disappointing bc of shellfish allergies. I called the next day to inform them about the mistake and encourage more caution when folks ask for or decline specific food items; it's often more than just a 'preference' but a real intolerance or dangerous allergy could be involved. I left a message & simply asked for a return call to acknowledge it. June called back right away & profusely apologized & immediately offered a full refund. I went in later that day to introduce myself & also give them the remaining Shrimp roll (so they could be certain I was telling the truth about what we'd received) and both she, and the man behind the counter, apologized AGAIN and then gave me an order of Tofu rolls to go inviting me to come back again. We will definitely be back. They not only acknowledged their mistake, but they made good by sincerely apologizing, refunding the entire order, giving a free order and inviting us back. THAT is excellent customer service. Plus, the food was DELICIOUS & there are other items we'd like to try. read more

AMAZING. Definitely the best Thai food I've had. We only got a couple of dishes (chicken curry and the salad special) but everything was flavorful and fresh. Tender chicken that melts in your mouth (not dried out strips like most places) and vegetables that were cooked perfectly. The salad was unique and amazingly refreshing on a 90 degree day - with shrimp, grapefruit, and pineapple. My husband and I were never that enthusiastic about Thai food, but after today's lunch, we're converted. read more

WOW. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. First of all, the menu is jaw dropping. There were so many delicious choices, it took my family an hour to decide what we wanted! We placed our to-go order online, which included salad rolls without any protein in it. Nikki called us back asking what other veggies we'd like added to the rolls instead! So thoughtful! Also, due to the size of our order, Nikki let us know that they were giving us complimentary chicken potstickers! They were absolutely delicious, as with every single item we ordered. Everything was made with very fresh ingredients. The salad rolls were huge with big pieces of avocado. The peanut sauce should be bottled, it's that good! We are so incredibly impressed at the deliciousness of the food, the kindness of the staff, and we CANNOT WAIT to come back! Decided to try this place out after going by it several times. Had always gone to Tom Yum across the street from them. Looked online and they had great reviews so gave it a shot. I have to say I was not disappointed. It was the best Thai food I can remember having any time recently. We're pretty boring when it comes to food choices, so we got the Tofu Rolls and Chicken Pad Thai. Both were excellent. The chicken was great, not mystery meat, and the noodles were perfect. The Tofu Rolls were perfect as well. The service was also very good. They were very nice folks and were happy to hear we enjoyed the dinner. I don't normally write reviews online but I felt compelled to because they deserve to be successful and I want this restaurant in my neighborhood for years to come. Bai Mint may be the best Thai food I've ever had. Seriously. I usually don't like to give a place 5 stars unless I've been a few times, but I was so smitten with the cuisine here that I can't help myself... 5 stars. We had the lemon chicken, red curry with duck, and pad thai with glass noodles. Uh-mazing! All the dishes were great but the lemon chicken was the winner. Deliciously breaded with a sort of sweet and sour sauce all over it. And you can tell that the meat is of a higher quality; tender with the consistency of a chicken that wasn't caged and abused. I'm getting hungry just writing this. And Thai Iced Teas (the best drink in the world) are only $2. Decently priced place, about $10-12 per dish. It's more expensive than Tom Yum, and the portions are smaller. I didn't want to like it so much, since I love Tom Yum (across the street, and a staple of the Woodstock neighborhood). But the food is better. The salad rolls have mint and actual flavor. The larb was really great. And the lunch dish called L1 ($10!) is amazing, a tower of delicious rice topped with a gooey fried egg and a pile of delicious meat stuff. Everything outside the pad thai and other normal dishes is good, with fresh ingredients. So now I have a dilemma for thai lunch "up the hill": really good food, or down-home pad thai big enough to take a box home? I can't hang with the bad service reviews; every time I've been for lunch the service has been fast, efficient and friendly. read more

Won a gift certificate here a couple months ago, and finally just made it in. Wasn't sure how it was going to be at first, as we were greeted and seated fairly curtly, but after that it was all uphill. I love this place. I have several go-to Thai spots in town depending what quadrant I'm in when I get a craving, but Bai Mint is the only one that delivers to me and I'm grateful that it's been consistently delicious. They really come through when I'm sick or hangry and just want really good food on a shitty day. We live in the neighborhood and have always seen Bai Mint, but never gone. We are on a "try new things" kick, so we decided to give it a try. I got the typical Pad See Ew with Chicken and we got chicken potstickers for an appetizer. The presentation was nice and the food was honestly delicious. Better than other Pad See Ew I've had. My husband had the house special which was some sort of curry, and it was pretty good. He did say he wishes that he got Drunken Noodles like he usually does, though. All & all, I'll come back here. The only thing that was weird was it was pretty much empty in there and we asked if we seated ourselves...the waiter seemed bothered by this and seated us up front. I ordered delivery from this place.I went through the whole process of giving them my order, credit card number, asking them how long it would take( which they told me it how take 1 1/2 hours). Then I told them my address. Once they found out I lived .1 miles out of their delivery circle. They said that I could order from Foodhub( which is crazy expensive). Tom kha was way too lemony-I was picking out lemon grass for days. The curry tasted like Tom kha soup with peanut sauce added. None of the vegetables in either dish were cooked-I think the poured hot broth over the raw veggies thinking they would steam? Pros: peanut sauce was delish and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Bad food, over priced, unreasonable portions. Wonton Soup: large order $13 included 3 small wontons and 4 small shrimp with a few bites of spinach. Completely flavorless, literally thought the broth was just water. Pineapple rice: Entree Order $11 was maybe 1.5 cups rice at best, Flavorless and in desperate need of spices or salt. Volcano Beef: Entree Order $15 and was a container of Sauce, fully submerged in it was a 2-3 ounces of Beef, 1/4 cup asparagus, 1/3 cup tomatoes and 1/3 cup under done onions. WAY OVER SALTED to the point where it was close to inedible. Shrimp Spring Rolls: $8 We didn't eat them so I don't know how they were bc they were packed on top the soup and wet warm and wet. read more

This is definitely thai food for white people, not for folks that enjoy real traditional thai food. In that vein, it does a good job. But it doesn't have the funky depth that I enjoy. For example, they have Khao Soi, the classic northern thai noodle soup, which is hard to find, and was the best thing we hordered. They don't serve the dish anymore with pickled/fermented greens because I was told "people didn't like it." The other dishes we had were the pad ke mao (which came out very salty, but lacking in thai basil and depth) and the stir friend eggplant. The server did warn us if we ordered that dish gluten free that the flavor would be changed, and he was right. It was also lacking in flavor depth, with a mostly fish sauce flavor. That being said, other patrons seemed to really enjoy the food, the food came out very quick, and they were happy to make things truly gluten free. read more

Very fresh and very tasty/unique. This is based on my order. Boneless wings stuffed with pork and fresh veggies. Shrimp dumplings. Shrimp cakes. All were high quality tasting and service was great. Tom Yum is also good (just speaking locally Woodstock area in Portland) Both have their own style. This one is more Hollywood/LA. Which is nice, very fresh and healthy.
