This is a very comfortable and peaceful restaurant. Its Thai theme is authentic with art from Thailand and carvings and pictures. Each table is styled with tablecloths and glass and quality silverware. Service at the beginning was attentive and pleasant. Our food arrived fresh from the kitchen and smelled amazing. Each dish was prepared well although the curry sauce was more liquid than the thicker curry sauces were used to. The flavors were good and the proteins we chose, chicken and pork were delicious. Our favorite dish was the pad thai with chicken. Tamarind sauce was spot on for pad thai. We loved the tanginess was perfect. After our meal it was surprisingly difficult to find anyone to attain boxes for our leftovers let alone pay our tab. Owner is friendly and respectful. Met a friend here for dinner tonight, 6:00 pm on Thursday. My friend arrived at 5:45 to secure a table. There were only 2 tables left, so a reservation would be a smart choice for next time. I'm the type of person who is always cold, so it was surprising to me how warm it was inside, especially on a mild fall day. A bit too warm actually. And that was even before my level 8 spice Pad Khee Mao! Service was very friendly and prompt. We ordered chicken satay, tom yum soup w tofu, and Pad Khee Mao with chicken. Both of us were surprised by how big the "small" soup was. Good value there. I really enjoyed the Pad Khee Mao. The vegetables were really tasty and everything was prepared very well. In hindsight maybe a level 7 would have been better. My friend warned me! Fairly small wine list but I had a nice glass of DAOU cabernet sauvignon ($17/glass). So the food taste appeals is good enough but not very authentic Thai food. The larb salad came with a few pieces of lettuce and they were not big enough to compliment a salad dish. Papaya salad -- very refreshing but definitely has a big kick in spice. Really too spicy for me . The restaurant is located in Saratoga downtown, it's a nice area to walk around. The food here was flavorful. We got the Pad See Ew, tofu Red Curry, tofu fried rice and Fried fish with spicy sauce. All of the dishes were equally good but my favorite was the fish. It was deep fried and had a spicy kick to it. The red curry was delicious, I just fish it dint have plain tofu (marinated or fried would've been better). The service was good, the only con I found was the price. Highly recommend this gem in downtown Saratoga which I have been going to for years. The restaurant itself has maybe a dozen tables and if you don't want to wait for a table its best to get there early. There are windows all along the street side of the restaurant for people watching. The food is made with quality ingredients--you can tell the vegetables are fresh and they aren't overcooked, the meat is high quality--not gristly or fatty. I've never had a dish that wasn't delicious. My favorites are the Pad Si Ew and any Curry dish, but their Panang Curry is especially good as is their Tom Kha (coconut milk soup with chicken or tofu). The service is excellent. The owner often takes the orders and he is attentive and kind. They are open during the lunch hour on Fridays and Saturdays for lunch specials. Best Thai in the South Bay! I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Bai Tong - it's small and cozy but the tables have their own space and are not packed in. The service is a little slow (we had to track someone down a few times for water), but it's friendly and we were okay with that! Fresh veggie spring rolls and veggie Tom Kha Gai soups were an excellent start to our meal. The chicken satay was also well received by the two in our party that aren't vegetarian . Bai Tong offers a slightly more cozy thai dining experience than most other Thai places. While the food is good, its slightly more expensive than other comparable Thai restaurants. Interior seating is sparse but in the times that I've went, its usually not super busy, and it was pretty easy for me to just get a walk in seat. I've ordered the pad thai and the pad kee mao from here before. The pad thai is more on the savory and slightly tangy side with a small hint of sweetness. Not sure we needed a reservation, but always nice to have one. Normally just have 1 appetizer, but the shrimp rolls and chicken sate sounded good. They were both delicious. Chicken skewers were cooked perfectly and the Peanut Sauce had good flavor. Each shrimp roll had 1 shrimp rolled in a wrapper (maybe wonton wrapper??). Very crispy. We made a reservation ahead of time and although when we arrived and not many people were there I didn't think we would have needed to, they really didn't flip the tables at all so it wouldn't hurt! However: Food took a long time, I checked and it was 3:40 pm and we still had no food. We ordered 4 dishes with 3 orders of the spring roll appetizer for a group of 5. Food was okay. Reading from the comments, good food in Saratoga area is hard to come by. Maybe I'm spoiled with more choices up north. But I'm used to the dishes with more intense flavor. Spicy-ness level was mild. Came here for New Year's Eve dinner. We shared a papaya salad and ordered our own entrees - spicy noodle w/ tofu, and roasted duck. Since several Yelp reviews mentioned that their food are very spicy, we asked for 3/10 spicy level for the papaya salad and 2/10 for the spicy noodle. Roasted duck didn't have a spicy level. To our surprise, the papaya salad wasn't spicy at all (context: both my partner and I have decent tolerance for spiciness). However, the supposedly less hot spicy noodle was way hotter. Our waiter explained that it may be due to the chili oil used for spicy noodle. Other than this surprise, food was delicious. The papaya salad was refreshing - could be more sour and have more crunchiness. The roasted duck was decent, not my favorite but didn't disappoint either. The spicy noodle was our favorite - very spicy and flavorful. We also added a coconut pudding as dessert. When asked on spice level he said between 1 and 10 with 5 being medium which he warned some people say that's hot. Well we went for 3 thinking the curry would have some character but not excessive. Two warnings 3 is noticeably warm and I would certainly say medium hot after consuming very much of it. Also the heat level pertains to all dishes, not just curries. Thus our Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were also quite warm. I would say having one dish that was 3, 4 or maybe 5 would be fine; however, 4 dishes all 3 seemed a bit intense. I hate to say it, but good food in Saratoga is somewhat a rarity. Coupled with mediocre service, I often find myself thinking out of Saratoga completely. What happens when a restaurant has good food and good service? It goes straight on my list of recommended restaurants, and that now includes Bai Tong. The Thai tea is soooo amazing, and as someone who loves tea but doesn't have much experience with Thai tea, I was definitely impressed. The apps and food are all solid options, my favorite being the pad Thai. The chicken sate is also really good, and I swear every adult should order one plate. It can easily be finished. Service is really great. Admittedly, I know a lot of the people who work there, but I still think the regular customer would feel taken care of. One server heard me saying my phone was out of battery and promptly handed me a paper menu instead of using someone else's phone to scan the QR code. The inside is homey and a bit tight, but I remember them having outdoor seating during the pandemic. Pricing is very reasonable, especially when you're competing with restaurants like La Bella and Pasta Armellino. Overall, it is definitively one of the best in Saratoga and worth a visit (or two ) read more

Located in downtown Saratoga, this thai bistro offers all the usual suspects but fails to impress throughout while being priced high from both a quantity and quality standpoint. Ordering for takeout was a 30 minute wait and pickup was a breeze. The employees had masks on and were polite. They packed the carry out well so it was easy to handle. Watch the spice here. Anything above 2 is probably too hot for people who don't eat spicy food regularly. Read on for the food. Kang Karee (Yellow Curry) - Chicken in yellow curry, coconut milk, onions, potatoes, carrots, and served with cucumber salad. The yellow curry made this the best dish hands down. It was creamy, it was savory, yet it also made you hungry for more. It went well with everything else you ate, and acted as a palette cleanser. Definitely order this though the amount meant rationing of this outstanding curry. The chicken was a little overcooked but the greatness of the curry masked it. Pad Se-Ew - Wok-fried wide rice noodles with garlic, broccoli, and egg in soy bean sauce. These noodles reminded me of beef chow fun which is a Chinese dish. It was flavorful and had plenty of beef. The noodles didn't stick either. The portion was small though for the price. Other restaurants would give you a lot more. This was the alternative to the classic Pad Thai and I didn't regret ordering it. The Pad Khee Mao spicy noodles also looked inviting. Spicy and Crispy Catfish - Crispy catfish filet sautéed with red curry paste, garlic, eggplant, green bean, bell peppers and basil. A problem with ordering a crispy dish to-go is that it will steam inside the box and just 5 minutes will ruin the crispy texture. I didn't factor that part into the dish however. The sweet-savory flavor of the catfish met expectations and it was a little juicy. But the portion was small for a $21 dish. Som Tum (Green Papaya Salad) - Shredded green papaya with green beans, tomatoes, roasted peanuts seasoned with special house dressing. The shredded papaya had a nice crunch to it but where was the dressing? It could have used more peanuts and the tomatoes were not plentiful enough to provide any impact for the dish. It tasted light and lacked any real seasoning. Pad Prik King (Green Bean) - Pork with red chili paste, green beans, bell peppers and garnished with kaffir lime leaves. The green beans weren't anything to talk about. The kaffir lime leaves were nicely cooked though. Ultimately skip this dish and go with Pad Kra Pow (Basil) instead and hope for the best. Tom Yum Koong - Prawns in spicy and sour broth with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, mushrooms, tomatoes, cilantro, and lime juice. It was hard to drink the soup because it was very sour and tart. Certainly far off from the best Tom Yum soups I've had. It's like someone dumped a bunch of lime in it, and I love lime flavors. I did like the lemon grass flavors. The prawns where more than just overcooked; it was tough to chew! By far the worst dish. Overall this place seems to be hit and miss with the potential be great. The yellow curry showed great promise, but some other dishes lacked value or quality. Would I go back even with a 3 star rating? Sure. It's rare to find a Thai restaurant with potential hidden off in the corner of the Bay Area like this in the small town of Saratoga. But if I'm anywhere else, there's dozens of other places to try for Thai. Also, for people saying this is the best Thai in the Bay Area...no way with these results. The quality of this place is lifted up by the food and would be lifted even higher had the service been better. We were on a date, while we don't expect it to be posh, we do expect the minimum.
