Update: previously 2 stars, now 4: i frequent the shop when i forget to bring stuff for lunch at work, and I think they have gotten a new manager or something in the last couple months. If not, Baja did change *something* since my last review. Don't get me wrong, I didn't give the place a 2 star and then keep frequenting it hoping it got worse; I work in the area and Baja is one of the better choices and I gave it a few more chances from the few good orders I had. I have yet to see the same woman who was working at my previous review and it's been the same guy who seems to just *know* who got what order. He's the tall-ish guy with the glasses and short hair (previous woman knew nothing and didn't understand what I ordered, even though it was off the menu. She just seemed absent-minded and uncaring about any order and I would get a new item each time even though i ordered the same thing). I would walk in and he's like "she has the shrimp taco blah blah" and i'm just standing there like "??? how does he know that ???" because I ordered via phone every time since. The first few experiences I've had were very sketchy but since I've yet to see that one managerial lady since, it's been pretty good! Their salsa makes up for anything I would deduct stars for, because I can make up for it in my own flavor, and that makes sense to a chain restaurant trying to appease many. So far so good, baja calabasas, so far so good. Again, no idea what Baja CAL changed but something IS definitely different, and I don't mind ordering from them so far. I ordered the same thing AGAIN, shrimp baja taco, and it was exactly like the first order, well grilled, and seasoned enough I was able to add my favorite salsas they offer to the taco. Possibly the slowest moving Baja Fresh ever! They took my order pretty quick and told me it would be a few minutes. It's pretty simple to make a quesadilla, it's a tortilla, cheese, and chicken. After about 20 minutes I asked if she could check to see if it's almost ready. She said another minute, 10 minutes later my food was finally ready. It was insane! To top it off, the manager was watching the whole time, no apologies or attempt to make things okay. It's rather unfortunate, because I like the food but I would rather find somewhere else to eat. The food preparation was incredibly slow and the service was terrible. I am never coming back. The Highlights -Nothing Final Thoughts: I refuse to ever go to Baja Fresh in Calabasas. They are a franchise. If you care about your time then go to the one in woodland hills. The people here are rude and the food takes forever to be ready. Well this is a tough review to write. On one hand, i do like Baja Fresh in general. While I do like their food, I do feel like it is slightly overpriced. This should be a less than ten dollar meal when in fact is usually over ten dollars. I do like the taste and i do like how filling the food is. i do wish there was one of these near me in Philly. Now at this particular Baja Fresh, they messed up my order. I order two burritos and I get one burrito and a salad. Then they "fix" the salad and give me another burrito. Excuse me for not checking the burritos before I left. When i got home, both burritos were not what I ordered. One was fish and the other was rice and beans. I had ordered one carne asada and one chicken. I discovered this when I got home. I sent an e-mail to the restaurant complaining, and to their credit, they offered to give me a free meal next time I come in. I appreciated the sentiment, but I'd rather just not have a bad experience in the first place. At least with this location, check your order before you leave. read more

I ordered a meal over the phone today to pick up. I arrived to pick up my meal and told the guy at the register that I had a coupon for a free birthday Burito and he asked for my ID which is fine, but then he was like its not your birthday yet and was giving me attitude. I told him that your company sent my the coupon early and that was not my fault. The date was still good on the coupon so he accepted it. Then we asked for extra chips and you would have thought that we asked for the world with the look he gave us. The team that works at this Baja Fresh has some real attitude issues. The quality of their food is subpar and they are cutting back on portions. Their salsas are also like water. We also ate here a few weeks ago and used my girlfriends free Birthday Burito coupon and she was given the same runaround when we tried to use her birthday coupon. Of the (probably) 10 Baja Fresh locations I have been to, this one I'd the best. The near is the juiciest and cooked right. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is clean and well kept. Most often I order the fajita, but the burritos are good too. If you need a fairly quick meal, this is a good place. read more

I have loved Baja Fresh since they first opened. Being from LA, I would eat there all the time. But now I live in San Diego and they have closed all the Baja Fresh by me. I guess we have too many similar places to eat. But when I come down here, I love to eat here and grab my usual Baja Chicken Burrito. As far as Baja Fresh goes, this place tastes just like Baja Fresh. Classic American version of Mexican food stuffs. I get burrito with chicken and guac, steak tacos and plenty of salsa. On cinco de mayo you seriously only have 4 people working. Ordered online for curbside pickup we called to let them know we arrived as instructed on the website to do and nobody picked up we waited in the car for 15 min and then proceeded to the line 15 people long outside people are still forming a line even though they are no longer taking orders the employees have yet to tell them they are relying on customers. The staff has screwed up multiple orders and is not polite about it. 2 days ago we were here and the staff was complaining their store was in trouble because lack of business which is why we came back trying to be supportive but this seems like lack of customer service and organization seems to be why they are in trouble!! read more

I would call this adequate Mexican food, as close to a classic taqueria as you can get for a fast food chain. I had a Baja Burrito with carnitas, which was actually quite good, especially with a little medium salsa from the ample salsa bar. Service was good and friendly and the food came quick enough even at the busy lunch hour. We heard a rumor later that Howie Mandel was here and we rushed back to shake his hand (he's a germaphobe). But he was not to be found. If Howie eats here, you know it has to be a clean place. read more

I have been eating at Baja Fresh for 20 years, but not much lately. I went late last night and it is not the same restaurant as it was back then. After surveying the menu, there was nothing that stood out so I ordered the Chicken Fajitas. The chicken was moist, but did not have much flavor and the cut sizes where very inconsistent. I ordered it with black beans, flour tortillas and no sour cream. They gave me extra guacamole, which was GREAT, but the beans were cold and did not have much flavor and the tortillas had been sitting for awhile since they were almost transplant and hard when I got them. The onions and peppers were old, wilted and flavorless also. At 9:00 on the nose the manager locked the door and a few minutes after that I went to leave and was going to unlock the door and was asked to use the side door. Not very customer service like, even though she was helping a guest. I was full, but everything lacked flavor. I had to load up on the salsas and jalapeños. read more

Whoever is commenting negatively about this has never worked retail or in customer service because these people are the BEST. So friendly and accommodating. If you have issues, get over yourself. Nice size restaurant with ample seating. As the store is on the end of a strip mall it is really easy to park in Babies R Us. Nice selection of food, good drink selections, restrooms and dining area are clean and the tempereture is always comfortable. read more

Three stars because it was just okay. It took about 5-6 minutes for my food to be prepared, so you know that it's fresh. I ordered the shrimp taco combo which came with two tacos and totaled out after tax to be a little over $10. I happen to think that the price is a bit steep for what you're getting here since it's not particularly authentic tacos, beans or rice. But let's be honest, when you come to Baja Fresh you pretty much know that you're getting essentially fast food Mexican food. It's not bad, it's not great. Would I rather have Rubios? They put me on hold and later returned to the phone to tell me they were unwilling to make me a burrito because it was closing time. They must not need the business. I went for 'Cinco de Mayo' it was really busy. I didn't mind waiting because I understand especially this tough times. I want to say thank you to the staff Baja Fresh Calabasas, for trying their best and trying to get the orders out as soon as possible. What really upset me some people don't understand especially on a holiday that lands on taco Tuesday , of course having coupons (which is good) and being one of the very few baja being open with this whole Covid19. So of course they were behind on orders. I saw so many tickets. I feel bad for the cashier because everyone was attacking her being rude. She was really polite and trying her best. One thing I don't understand about this Covid19 social distance, Everyone was being rude, about some staff but yet they were like 20 people inside the store. Doesn't anyone follow rules anymore ? Am I the only one that likes Baja Fresh, they have so many bad reviews. I eat here at least a few times a month and it's always been great. The customer service is great, the service is fast & there is always plenty of tables. This is a great place for salads, the portions are big & always enough to eat later. They are always so nice to pack up my leftovers, never any complaints from them. This is one of my favorite spots for a good salad when I'm in a rush and don't have a lot of time to wait. read more

Every time and I mean EVERY TIME I visit this location I have to send my food back because it's straight cold. The cheese in the burrito is not only unmelted but literally cold to the extent that you can feel the 'cold' from outside the foil. Unfortunately my number was 107 and they didn't follow up. Then they argued that 7 is 107. Funny thing is they called 106 as 106 and 112 as 112. I haven't wanted to write a review in a while but the minute I tasted my food, knew it was time. I had a pollo bowl a few days ago at the location on Sawtelle and stopped here to satisfy my craving for another one. Took one bite and realized the food just was not the same. Food was flavorless. Some bites of chicken were tough, others felt cold in my mouth, while others were mushy and practically disintegrated without any chewing. I ordered the burrito Mexicano with shrimp and no beans. Well I did get that it was stuffed full Of rice the shrimp was pushed to one end and I got a little bit of onions and a tiny bit of cilantro down at the other end with the shrimp. Six of us ate here tonight. One order was wrong and another was missing altogether. When questioned, the cashier said he had to delete it but forgot to add it back. So I reordered and paid for them. He repeated the 2 steak tacos back to me. Simple, right? I got two chicken tacos instead. Didn't have time to wait again so I ate them. Meanwhile the other person got her nachos without anything on it. She went back and requested the other ingredients but they got those wrong too. I am a Baja Fresh fan but this BF is so bad. I swear the same dirt and grime is on the window/divider in front of the food prep area that was there when I was there 3 weeks ago. Three weeks ago I witnessed a disgruntled customer arguing with a worker about an order. The arguing went on the entire time the woman's order was being re-made. It made me very uncomfortable. This last time I was there I saw an employee handling money (taking orders), preparing trays of food that the kitchen had finished, and then this same employee went into the kitchen area and helped cook food...all with un-gloved hands. Ok, it is what it is, fast food mexican place. That being said, I think it is pretty dang good. I work close by and stop in a few times a month for dinner. I love their quesadillas, they are huge and stuffed with cheese and big pieces of chicken unlike Taco Bell's. I am also crazy about their mango salsa, don't tell but I always get away with several containers of it for my chips at home or to make mango chicken breast! The cashier is always genuinely friendly to me when I come in. I was disappointed to see so many poor reviews of the service, but can bet after dealing with the people of Calabasas all day, that you easily catch them feeling not so cheerful. Baja Fresh is decent Mexican food. I only eat here once in a while, but not really worth the price. I recently wanted to try the new Chicken Torta which was pretty good however overpriced for the size. Service is OK, the water they have is pretty nasty and has something wrong with it. I see all the negative reviews and I don't understand them. I have been going to this location for the past 5 years and have never had a problem. I usually go for lunch and they almost always have my order right, the food is hot, and the restaurant is always clean. I go during lunch so it is usually crowded and more than once I have not been able to find indoor seating, that's really my only complaint. Their nachos are the best Fast Food Nacho's I have ever had. I usually have to ask for more chips because the toppings are so generous. I'm never disappointed when I come to this location, keep up the good work. read more
