Again the family is craving fish tacos and after a quick search on Yelp, we opted to make a visit to Baja Mar Fish Taco for the great reviews and convenience of being local. We sampled fish tacos, chicken tacos, and carne asada quesadilla, rice and beans. The fish tacos were pretty good, standard, not greasy and a pretty good chunk of fish. Chicken tacos were okay and the carne asada quesadilla was quickly devoured; rice and beans were tasty. I agree with others' comments, the toppings bar is pretty cool, those fried seasoned chilis are addicting and compliment the tacos perfectly. The service was friendly and very quick. A positive to their taco-making abilities was a woman ordering tacos to go...the woman was wearing a uniform from a nearby mexican taco shop :) *My youngest daughter left her hand-held Leapster on the table. We didn't realize this until about 1 hr later. Pretty much kissing the Leapster good-bye, I called the restraunt and asked if the game had been found. Came during lunch time on a Friday and got the Friday special which was 99cent fish tacos! The fish came nicely battered and there was a good amount of fish! The fish was crispy and the corn tortilla was fresh and thick! So there's a few seats outside the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large group. It's been a long while since the last time I was here. My friend came to old town Monrovia and wanted a quick bite before dinner time. Told her about $1 taco special at this place and we decided to come. She ordered 4 shrimp tacos, and rice. The tacos were okay....a lot of batter and it was deep fried for a bit too long. I stumbled upon this place while furniture shopping in the area. It's hidden in a tiny lot so don't get it confused with the other taco joint on the corner of the street. They're known for their fish tacos which are $1 on Wednesdays and Sundays . We ordered 3 to go and when I got home and opened the box, I was amazed at how big they were! The fish and tortillas were hot and fresh and the batter was perfectly seasoned. It was then topped with slaw, tomatoes and onions. To finish it off, they put a creamy sauce on it. They have taco specials everyday! I came on a Saturday and they had 99 cent shrimp tacos. It was good but the tortillas got soggy towards the end and started to fall apart. They serve complimentary chips and salsa when you dine in. The salsa they have at the bar are a little too watery for my liking. Food is always great. Carne asada burrito is what I always get & never disappointed! Before, chips were way too greasy, but then owner changed & now they're perfect. It's a small fast food type place. But when you eat in, they give you chips & salsa. Fresh salsa. None of this from-a-can-stuff. Service is always friendly! I love the daily dollar specials. Fish tacos tastes good, but the fish is more batter than the actual fish. But hey, it's only a dollar. Yummy salsas at their salsa bar! On our way back from Costco in Asuza, my husband and I decided to stop by the restaurant for their Thursday $1 shrimp tacos special. We ordered three shrimp tacos and their weekend special menudo total cost $10 (awesome price for 2!). The shrimp was dipped in a thick batter to the point you can't taste anything but the breading. Tacos were served with the usual fixing of cabbage, onion, cilantro, and Mexican sour cream. The menudo came out in a medium size bowl along with your choice of three corn or flour tortillas. The broth was bland and tripes were cooked way to mushy! Overall this place isn't bad nor great. The last time we came to have their fish tacos were much better. read more

Found a new favorite place to get fish tacos! We were eating sushi next door and wanted to get a taco after. Luckily it was a Sunday so .99 per fish taco. They have larger pieces of fish in their tacos than most places and they have sauces and peppers you can get. My dad loves it more than our usual place which he would bring all his friends to. I came to this place for lunch on a Wednesday. I ordered their ceviche, a potato taco and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was not good and even had a bad smell to it. When I looked at the shrimp, it looked like it was sitting in the sauce for a long time. The ceviche was not great at all either. The lady at the front seemed disinterested in helping us as it was my first time there and had certain questions. As a person who LOVES Mexican seafood and has eaten at hole in the wall Mexican Seafood places, this one was the worst one. Craving for some tacos, saw a bunch of good reviews so gave this spot a try. So, so misleading. Order a few carne asada and fish taco that came out to be just a little short of $5, about $4.65. Paid with a credit card and was charged for $5.15 instead. Asked cashier why and was told there was a 50 cents charge for under $5. Wow.. Would've been nice to address that to me when I gave her my CC or at least have a clear sign somewhere that says "THERE IS A 50 CENTS CHARGE FOR ANY TRANSACTION UNDER $5". I would have paid with cash instead if I had knew about this in advance. So they had an open kitchen and I was able to watch the cook prepare the food. To be honest, I was extremely grossed out and had second thoughts on even eating my tacos. The guy was handling the food without wearing any gloves, and to make it worst, he was wiping the sweats on his face with his bare hands! There was an open salsa bar so I tried one of each of the hot sauce, and they were pretty much mediocre and not even spicy. The carne asada was very dry and bland. Fish taco were pretty much 95% batter and 5% fish, like previous reviews mentioned. I ended up throwing away one of the carne asada tacos because it just tasted so bad and that thought of the sweat from the cook.. For $1.65, I rather go to King Taco to get my carne asada tacos. If you really like fish tacos, try out Tacos La Bufadora in el monte. They're $1.50 each on Wed and Sun, 50 cents more expensive but tastes a lot better. Not exactly sure why this place has such great reviews for their tacos, but if the majority of people enjoy it, kudos to them. Unfortunately for me, it was a terrible experience. read more

It's a small place.. I wasn't expecting it to be amazing TBH.. but then.. I tried the carnitas nachos and was pretty amazed. It's a small plate but it was enough for both of us.
