I've been coming here for years and never got a consistent service. One time you can have an amazing service and the next time as bad as it gets. That says to me they are not doing a good job training their staff. This including their managers. They are bad as greeting. You could stand there a while and have ton of staff pass you by and no one will stop by to seat you or even ask to see if you have been helped. I think they have the attitude of "that's not my job". Carry out is the same way. I order a single order ahead of time. I walk in. One of them takes the order. When you would expect to receive your order they just walk away without any explanation. You watch them serve their customers at the bar and nobody say or do anything. Finally you hear them asking another person to get the order and still waiting for awhile. Nobody bothers to give you an explanation. Finally when you tell them chicken and fries should have been ready by now they go to the back and the manager brings your order to you in a bag with an half apology one foot already going the opposite direction. So the manager does what the book says supposedly show up and apologize but really doesn't stop to reach out to you or hear you out. Almost just hands you the order and runs. As if you aren't worth their time. I can write about similar experiences here because I have so many. They need to get better at their staff training and create a consistent good customer service. I think because they don't struggle for customers which makes customer service second priority. If it wasn't for my kids to love the food I would have stopped coming here a long time ago. read more

Due to a last minute mishap, we called BC if they were able to take a party of 15. They were willing to take us and we really appreciated that. Overall, I had a good experience there. I ordered the tuna burger, it was delicious and a good portion. Totally recommend it and the calamari. However, I wouldn't recommend their poke bowl due to the size you get for the price you pay. I gave 4 out of 5 since our waitress forgot to take the other half of the table's drink orders while taking our side, but I'll definitely come back again for the food and environment. read more

Went to Bakers Crust after the breast cancer walk at the oceanfront. We had a group of 12 and were able to be seated within 5 mins. This was my first time going here. I've had their bread bowls after races(which are delicious by the way) but have never eaten at the restaurant. The menu is smaller than what I thought it would be. Nothing really jumped out at me on the breakfast side so I went with a chicken panini. The sandwich was pretty good. It had cheese and avocado on it. My side was house chips. The texture of the chips was good but the flavor was kind of bland. Service was pretty good, didn't have to wait too long for our food once ordered. I would go back. I can't believe that I've lived in this area for as long as I have and not frequented this place! My girlfriends and I went there for brunch recently and I was pleased. The menu offers a good variety of options both for egg eaters and those like me who are not big breakfast people. I had the pecan Belgian waffle which was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The coffee was not too bitter or strong. The dining room was clean and the hostess was prompt and friendly. In an area where the average wait time for a table on Sunday mornings seems to be an hour, it was a great find to be able to walk in and sit right down. Sadly, I'm moving away, but I will be making this a pit stop when I do come in to down. I have quite a few more dishes that I have to try. read more

Although I really like their ceasar salad and tomato soup, I stopped by to eat breakfast before driving to Williamsburg. Ordered the Baker's Breakfast, with 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. The hash browns were frozen, eggs and no taste, bacon was ok. My girlfriend and I go a lot and we absolutely love it! This review though is for the experience we had this past Monday. If I could rate that experience I would give it 2 Stars. My girlfriend drank 3 vodka sodas. She asked for a vodka soda, she Did NOT ask for TOP SHELF vodka. The server, Alexis, did NOT ask if she wanted a specific vodka or if she wanted top shelf. When the bill came she charged us for Kettle One vodka, which is top shelf because we asked the bartender before we left. My girlfriend and I both have worked in the restaurant business for many years. We ALL know that if someone asks for a vodka soda, to either ask the customer or ring in well vodka. We don't want anything from this review but to show your server that she cannot do this and think it's correct. I don't know if she was trained that way, or if she just thinks she can do that because we are younger and thinks she can get one over on us (She obviously didn't know she was waiting on other severs/bartenders). Seriously amazing food and service! The Brussel sprouts have to be the coolest, quirkiest, amazing appetizer. It is bold to make it the way they do, with maple bacon yogurt and topped with chopped egg but that is what I liked about it! The Chicken Asiago is amazing, enough for two meals. Was disappointed for a couple of reasons. First, all soup selections were cream based, so if you're lactose intolerant--there is not a soup choice that you can have. Second, the homemade chips were not crispy and very chewy --not to mention a bit on the salty side. I told our server that I was not impressed with the chips because of the way they tasted and their texture. She asked if I wanted something else and declined the offer. Later she brought another bowl of chips and said to "try these". We tried them and they were --okay. Still salty but more crispier than the first batch. My husband ordered the kicking crab soup which rates about 6 out of 10. The kicking ingredient was pepper --lots of it. I ordered an appetizer where you can pick 2 or 3 types of topping for the bruschetta boards. I wasn't impressed with them either. I specifically ordered the tomato and goat cheese with olives and the hummus. Perhaps I was expecting to spread the hummus on myself and was looking forward to that. Or expecting the bruschetta boards to be goaty warm-- which they were not. The most outstanding part of out meal was the smokin blt sandwich which they split for us on separate plates. Came here on a Saturday at noon with a party of 6 adults and 3 kids and it was about a 10 minute wait which is not too bad. I would recommend the southern belle with home fries. This sandwich is a beast. Fried chicken between a sweet potato biscuit with maple syrup. Third visit food is good, however service is always slow. Today we took our grandchildren and my daughters mother in law. Kids pizza came 30 minutes prior to our food arriving, we had to go to the bar for pizza plates and ask about our salads and burger twice , water was not refilled and we had to find someone for ketchup and cookies. I'm not sure the food can offset the poor service, no one explained the reason, as there were only five tables filled and no one apologized. We should have gone somewhere else. My wife ordered bacon and eggs over medium, no hash browns, and decaf coffee, but she received extremely runny eggs, HALF cup of coffee, hash browns and BURNT toast. I ordered a Maryland omelette but received a West Coast omelette. When I pointed this out to the server she just made the excuse that she doesn't normally work mornings. My dad got the swanky Benedict and I got the avocado toast. Both our poached eggs were over cooked. Mine had the textured a hard boiled egg...ugh! Also, both our micro greens weren't dressed with the honey lemon oil as described on the menu! I asked for a side of hollandaise which I'm glad I did to help with the over cooked egg. My dad's Swanky Benedict was dry because of the over cooked eggs , no dressing and limited amount of hollandaise sauce. My mom's pepperoni pizza was delicious and served hot. Service was excellent and Katerina did a fantastic job. The kitchen could use a reminder on why people order Benedict's...it's the creamy luxurious sauce also you can't offer breakfast if you can't cook an egg. 3 minutes for the perfect porched egg! My husband and I have been coming here for many years. We actually had our first date at this Baker's Crust 14 years ago. I'm a little sad to post this somewhat negative review because of how special the restaurant is to us. In recent years though, we feel like it's taken a turn in the wrong direction. What used to be a casual environment that took simple, familiar options like sandwiches, soups, and salads and created them in a way that was more sophisticated that other restaurants has turned into a stuffy environment with a menu that is trying entirely too hard to be trendy but is coming up short. We've been disappointed multiple times which is what finally prompted this review. On our most recent visit last night, we were seated at a table within about 5 min but then waited over 10 minutes without being greeted by a server or even brought glasses of water. My husband finally got up to asked the hostess, and a server came over a few minutes later clearly annoyed that we had inquired when she would be coming. That is not the first time this has happened. We ordered the goat cheese appetizer which used to be fantastic. This time we were served what looked like a bowl of marinara sauce with a side of toasted bread. We sifted through the sauce to find a tiny amount of goat cheese on the bottom which we couldn't even taste because it was drowned out by the marinara. The sauce seemed to be a completely unnecessary addition to the dish, only there to make it different than what you might find elsewhere. When we explained to our server that we couldn't even taste the goat cheese, she again seemed annoyed but did take it back and returned with one that had far more goat cheese and less sauce. The second one tasted considerably better, but it still wasn't nearly as good as the version we used to order that had lots of roasted garlic, olive oil, and NO marinara. For the main course, I decided to try the Swanky Sweet Potato Biscuit. This is a prime example of where the Baker's Crust is trying too hard to be trendy and is missing the mark on flavor and quality. The sweet potato biscuit was actually delicious. It was moist and flavorful. The contents were another story though. The fried chicken in the middle was dry, tough, flavorless, and entirely too large for the biscuit. The biscuit that was the shining star of the dish couldn't withstand the size of the chicken or what it took to bite into its toughness and began crumbling after just a couple of bites into the sandwich. I ended up with a heaping mess before I was halfway finished. I didn't dare send it back since our server clearly already thought we were a thorn in her side. Overall the sandwich had very little flavor and seemed to be lacking the sauces/condiments listed on the menu. While we are happy some of our old favorites like the Kickin' Crab and Corn Chowder, Tomato and Cheddar soup, Jersey Grinder, chicken salad, and dessert crepes have remained on the menu for years, the evolution of the menu and service have not been a step in the right direction in our opinion. We would love to see this most special restaurant to us get back to the basics a bit and do an exceptional job at what they do best rather than try so hard to be something they aren't. The charm of this place used to be the sophistication of a casual neighborhood restaurant not a trendy foodie's paradise because it's definitely not that even though it seems to want to be. read more

I've been coming to this specific location now for a few years and at first the food quality was awesome, but throughout this past year I've noticed it slowly declining. The service was totally fine as far as staff goes. We were seated very quickly and weren't left hanging at all. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. I ordered the Charleston chicken sandwich which itself was pretty good but it came with house chips which were super stale and also Soggy, there was 0 crunch to the home made chips and they were pretty tasteless. So half my lunch was pretty much inedible. The sweet tea was so sugary it felt like I ate a box of nerds after my first sip, I ended up just sharing a water with my girlfriend. For real guys chill out on the sugar, I'm a sweet tea lover myself and it was literally undrinkable. I want tea with sugar not sugar water flavored with tea. My girlfriend ordered pepperoni pizza, visually it looked pretty standard. But it was super thin, soggy, and very oily. As you picked up a slice from the plate it behaved like a dropping neck tie and would point straight to the floor, you're better off eating it with a fork and knife. This really bums me out because we've eaten here at least a couple dozen times over the past few years but this last trip will probably be just that. Our last trip. $30 for undrinkable tea, soggy below average pizza, an ok sandwich and un eatable chips. Our server had no control over food obviously. She did a great job. Okay...I normally hate chains like poison but we had a compelling reason to try this place out. This week they are offering a fundraising menu for the local SPCA. They cough up three bucks for everybody who orders from the "two courses for $15.99" menu. The selections on the menu are limited to salads, pizza and "spay-ghetti" pomodoro (get it?) Anyway, the ceasar salad was passable (even carbo-kid ate hers...a first) and the wood-fired pizzas weren't too bad. The topping tasted great but the thin crust pizza dough was too floppy. I had to support it underneath to keep my fennel sausage and carmelized onions from plopping into my lap. This wasn't a show stopper but a slightly crispier, cracklier crust would not go unappreciated. The spayghetti pomodoro my wife had was absolutely huge and pretty tasty. The only weird thing was that it had about a pound of sliced chicken breast mixed throughout it. I thought pomodoro was meant to be a basic tomato sauce without any animal protein accoutrement? Oh well...whatever. It tasted good and what she could eat of it filled her belly, which meant I didn't have to spring for dessert. read more

I had the pleasure of meet friends the other night and ran into a train wreck. Checking the wine list started with a Pinot Grigio which was miserable. Checking with my phone on the wines found out it was from Sicily. None of the wines but one had an acceptable rating. Other members of our group sent back wines as well. Looks like they took some unsalable wines off the hands of a distributor for a deal. Food finally arrived salads, soups and sandwiches. Plain and simple with little flavor taste or imagination. The real surprise was the pizza. Thin crust with what seemed like tomato cheese soup spread on top. Quite frankly I have had better grill cheese sandwiches than the silliness served to me. This place displays some good looking bread in an artsy, airy space, but when it comes time to deliver on taste, they just fall short. We came for brunch cause we were in the area and had not tried it before. There was a 20 minute wait, which is usually a good indicator of good grub. After being seated, we waited a while more before being noticed by the waitress. But, on to the food... The Eat-Anything Kid and I had the pick two combo. She chose a sandwich and crab and corn chowder. I chose a sandwich and salad. All underwhelming, especially the chowder. Now, when you think of chowder, you think thick, creamy, chock full of stuff right? This was the total opposite. Watery, thin, and short on the corn and crab. The Man had a dessert crepe. It was only ok. Was very sweet and mounded with whip-cream. The kids liked it, but was too sweet for the adults. The Picky Kid got the only good thing that morning. The tomato and cheese soup was declared the best thing he had ever eaten. I think he went through two huge chunks of bread with it. We were lucky to snag a sample before he licked the bowl clean, and it was very good. Considering prices and food quality, we checked the box on this one. The tomato soup might be worth a take-out order though. read more

I'll be honest: this place needs a stand-along location and its own identity away from the 1980s Hilltop strip malls. Sadly, nobody ever told the baker at Baker's Crust that a baguette should have crunchy crispy crust. Their baguette is an insult to baguettes everywhere. This is my favorite chain restaurant! We all got fruity drinks, and the multi-berry mule (like a Moscow mule) was delicious. You have to like fruity drinks to enjoy this one though. I got the popeye pizza which was only so-so. The cheese/spinach ratio was not ideal, so it was quite bitter. However, I tried a bite of each member of my group's meal, and everything else was wonderful. They got the asiago chicken entree, the buttermilk chicken street tacos, and the chicken and cheddar sandwich. They now have hand cut fries (like at Five Guys) but they'll still give shoestring fries on request. Overall, delicious drinks, food, and good service! read more

Came last night to celebrate my mom's bday. I realize now that it was my first time coming for dinner. In the past I've always been to brunch and lunch. I was surprised to find their dinner time clientele a lil sparse. We had jus a bit of a wait while they got together some tables because we were a party of 6 plus 1. I debated between a sandwich, a pizza, and 2 pasta dishes. Before I tell you what I had, lemme just say their pizzas are so freaking delicious. The crust is perfect and the whole thing is baked in a brick oven, which to me, should be the only way to bake a pizza. So instead of ordering the margarita pizza (my all-tine favorite) I decided on the pasta & meatball dish. It came out looking pretty but the taste was a disappointment. Bland, bland, and bland. No matter how much S&P I added, along with more cheese & crushed red peppers, I just kinda pushed it along and forced myself to eat. It wasn't cheap and I was hungry. Thankfully though, I ordered us some calamari and beer cheese fries. Calamari was pretty basic but served with a sweet chili sauce... I still like marinara better. The beer cheese fries was the winner of the night!!!!! My son ordered their shrimp and crab pasta and that just looked bland. He seemed to have liked it because there wasn't much left but he wasn't raving about it like he normally would have over a delicious dish. Boyfriend ordered their pizza and poor him had to share with his daughter who ordered their salmon and kale salad, and my son as well. Note to self next time I am torn between what to order there: Always choose the pizza. Always. I gave it 4 stars because I truly enjoy their new decor and because I've been there so many times and u know their food is delicious. Minus 1 star for bland pasta dishes. read more

Went to this restaurant for their Thursday night pint and pizza special. $3 for a pint of beer and $6 for a small pizza. There were three beers to choose from, the waitress offered to bring us samples when we couldn't decide. She returned with one warm sample saying they only had the one specially priced beer left in stock. We understand with Covid they were busier than usual and short staffed. We asked to see the manager, when he arrived he could not have been nicer and made everything right! Corey H. offered to substitute any beer on the menu. They arrived cold and delicious! We had the nerve to further complain that one of the two pizzas we ordered was cold and burnt. He took one look at the pizza and agreed we needed a fresh pizza, which we took to go. When you are in Virginia Beach, give this restaurant a try because they will take good care of you and make sure you are happy with your food and drink selection! While Baker's Crust isn't a bad restaurant, I have left simultaneously satisfied and disappointed at the same time, twice now - hence 3 stars. On my first visit, we came for brunch. The breakfast food we ordered was awesome, but the sandwich and side dish was not very good. Mainly lacking flavor, wow-factor or anything that would make me order it again. I came back Friday night to try their dinner and had the same mediocre experience - a very cramped restaurant with inattentive servers and an awesome dish (Mushroom Brie soup and Tomato Cheese Soup), but once again, the sandwiches were both just ok. The Chicken Guacamole sandwich was super boring and whoever made it didn't seem to have any attention to detail, because things were just thrown on it here and there. The Chicken Tuscan Grinder was just ok too. Overall, this place is too small, understaffed and the food that I've had is just ok. I would come back though to try other things on the menu, because they have a lot that looks good. read more
