Said it comes with mashed potatoes, artisan bread, & onion rings. There were about 4 very tiny onion rings, the meatloaf was very dry & not at all good, & the bread was terribly burnt. Upon questioning others in our party, at least 20 ppl said their their meal was just ok or terrible. This was a weekday/workday visit during the lunch hour. Friendly staff. Involved manager. Packed. 20 minute wait to be seated. 6 minute wait For water. Pleasant, well informed server. LOUD constant buzz of conversation. People talk in every restaurant but this one is at the top of the local decibel chart (and I was seated near the door). I sat at a high-top table (as offered) to end the 30 minute wait associated with the Friday lunch rush. The manager was very involved in assisting the staff during the lunch rush, even stopping to pick up food off the floor. The pancakes are some of the best I've ever had. They taste just like funnel cake and the edges of mine were crispy and buttery, like actual funnel cake. So good, I came back the next day and they were just as good as the first time. Pass on the eggs benedict. The eggs on top of the fried chicken were practically hard boiled with zero sauce action, the fried chicken was not seasoned, and the biscuit was dry. I'll start off by saying our server was a super cool dude. I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but above the mask is blue eyes and a pretty awesome head of long hair. He mentioned that he also works the bar, but anyway-- they treat you right at this place. My wife and I both ordered the BC special, which is where you get to pick two items from the sandwich, soup and salad menu for lunch. I went with the malibu sandwich and crab chowder with corn. The sandwich was very light, which is exactly what I was looking for. This is a great place for people who like to keep their health in mind while dining out. Sometimes I want a big greasy burger, most of the time I don't. The soup was also really good with a generous amount of crab in it. Our server (super cool long hair dude) was so nice that he had a long conversation with an elderly gentleman before heading over to refill our water cups. I think it's cool when people are polite to the elderly because most of the time they enjoy a good conversation. The dining area is well kept and service was prompt. I believe we received our food about ten minutes after we put in the order. I live in Chesapeake, but I would go out of my way to head to VA Beach and eat at this restaurant. It's a great place with great service and a menu that keeps everyone in mind. If you're a vegetarian, they do mushroom burgers. If you're on a diet, they have diverse salad options and sandwiches that won't blow your calories count for the day. Located in Hilltop, we were welcomed by hostesses and were sat in a busy restaurant. The employees were nice and the restaurant was clean, except fruit flies. Everytime we come here, fruit flies swarm our food. It makes me question why the owners haven't gotten rid of them. Anyways, I ordered the tavern chips and asiago chicken. The chips need to be layered more, it seems like they dump alot of cheese on it and put bacon in one area when they need to spread it out. The asiago chicken was alright, but nowhere reasonable for $18. I will say the resturant was exceptionally fast with their service / food. I might give it a try again, but not for a while. The crepes here are delicious but that burger filled me up. I decided to have a lemon bar. Not your typical lemon bar. I will not be coming back here. Nice ambiance, but failed to meet food wise. I ordered the tomatoe, basil, and mozzarella panini and the bread was so thick I literally couldn't take a bite of it. There were grill marks; however, they could have just been painted on for all I know since there wasn't the crunch you expect when biting into a panini. The house chips, well that is exactly what they are. I was excited to try them, but I've had better at a carnival. We came in for brunch on a Saturday and they were pretty busy but we sat down right away. Our server was thoughtful and prompt. We sat near the bar and could over hear the bartender making great recommendations for drinks to her patrons based on what they said they liked at other places. The food came quickly and was piping hot. I had 2 people in my party, we both got soup and a half sandwich combo which were both amaze. The tomato soup here is SO GOOD. Also, they make the bread in house from scratch daily so the whole place basically smells like heaven and it tastes even better. I've been to Virginia Beach many times and have seen this place every time I come here. I regret never taking the time to check this place out. I truly feel like it's been my loss. I'll start with the service, it was impeccable from the hostess as we walked in making sure we were happy with where we were sitting to our server Ryan who was so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and had so many great suggestions, and then we were greeted by Brian who knew this was our first time in and visited with us for a bit and gave us some history of this establishment which was truly interesting. We were first offered a sample of soup, tomato cheese. I wouldn't normally order this particular flavor but oh my goodness it was out of this world and a MUST order!!!Next we were brought a sample of the tavern chips sprinkled with Parmesan and a dipping sauce also fresh and tasty. We ordered the caprese bruschetta which is mouth watering. It's on house made sourdough that is dense and chewy and toasted just right. It's then topped with the freshest mozzarella also made in house, tomato, balsamic, and fresh greens. Of course it's the $6 pizza night that brought us in and we ordered a pepperoni and margherita. Gotta say the margherti hands down is my fave! The pizzas are Neapolitan style and made right there in their wood fired oven that you can see baking right before your eyes. All I can say is this pizza ranks In my top two faves. It's on the drier side with a hint of sweetness paired of some delicious "calamari" ($4 during Happy Hour), you can never go wrong with that combination. For dinner I ordered the "Smoked Chipotle Gouda Burger": chipotle gouda, applewood bacon, chipotle aioli, lettuce, tomato $13 (comes with fries). It was cooked just right and fresh. I managed to eat half the massive thing surprisingly. For dessert I ordered the "Diablotin Crepe": chocolate mousse, seasonal berries, vanilla sauce $9. I thought it was pretty good. I wanted to order a pasta togo for my boyfriend so I picked the "Fra Diavolo Di Mare": shrimp, crab, calamari, white wine, red pepper flakes, basil, garlic, tomato sauce, jalapenos, tagliatelle $20. I didn't think this dish was worth twenty dollars. I didn't get enough sauce, veggies, or seafood. I was mostly noodles and it didn't have as much flavor as I expected, it was extremely dry, bland, and the noodles don't pair well with this dish. I was disappointed because I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a delicious dinner and he thought it was okay. My wife and I have frequented the Baker's Crust locations in Ghent and Hilltop for 9 years and I can honestly say we've never had a bad experience. We've done breakfast (brunch), lunch and dinner over the years and it's always well prepared and delicious and for a good price. Today we went for brunch at the Hilltop location and were both in the mood for chicken and waffles. We arrived a little after 12 and were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. We waited 15 minutes and got a nice booth. Our waitress, Stephanie, was super nice, smiling and engaging. The environment was light and lively but not too loud. We both ordered the chicken and waffle - which, if you're skeptical about the lack of a plural in 'waffle', don't be! The waffle was nice size with adequate thickness, fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The chicken was perfectly battered and fried crispy. It was 3 nice, good sized pieces. The waffles were lightly dusted with powdered sugar and the syrup on the side was quality. I ordered the Bloody Mary which was decent and my wife ordered the Plum Cosmopolitan, which she loved.
