Love this place! The 1 star is because in a town like Virginia Beach this restaurant closes so early it's ridiculous. Restaurants in smaller towns close later this 8pm. Baker's Crust is one of me and wife's favorite restaurants in all of Virginia Beach. We live in the Hilltop area so we tend to stop by this place quite a bit and they never disappoint. They have a variety to choose from but their pizzas and burgers are my favorite. On Thursday night you can get a pizza and a beer for $9. They have a great drink menu as well. This restaurant is great for a date night or to take the whole family. You can't go wrong with this place! read more

I've seen this location for a few years while shopping around and haven't stopped in. Finally last Thursday night I met a friend and had a nice dinner here. The menu is the same at this location as the one in Norfolk so I don't have vastly different food reviews but I'll share what I had. I had the kale caesar salad - it's exactly what it sounds like - a caesar salad but kale instead of romaine. It was OK but it was dry and could've used more dressing from the get-go. I split a fresh-made pizza with my friend and they had it out very quickly (a good thing bc I was starving) and it was very yummy. It was a white pizza with spinach on top. Lastly - the house chips which never disappoint. Nom nom nom - have to be my fav thing on the menu. Large location with a nice bar, plenty of seating, clean bathroom and inside with contemporary decor and lots of parking. All in all - a win! read more

I have been here several times with my family. To start off it is in the hilltop section, fairly easy in and out of the parking lot and have never had a problem finding a parking space. Pros: They have a wood burning stove and my meal of choice is usually one of the individual pizzas. The pizzas themselves are very good. My favorite is the traditional cheese. Well done with high quality ingredients and just the right amount of crunch. The beer selection is good with excellent craft selections. Ambiance wise the place is superb. Low lighting and it just feels comfortable in here. There is also a nice bar area where you can watch a game. My daughters have also gotten the crepes. While I am not a fan or aficionado they tell me they are quite good. To me it is a light pancake with fruit but what do I know. As far as cons, really not much. When it is busy you could wait a while longer but it has never been oppressive. Servers have always been professional, but with a place like this, good service is expected. As a whole customer service has improved across the board in the service industry, but part of me longs for the days when the waitress would be snapping gum with a good hearted put down. Anyway great beer, good food, professional service in a nice place. Winning all around solid four stars. read more

*** NEWLY RENOVATED - Reopened March 2015 *** To begin, I always felt Baker's Crust was a 4.5 star place before they renovated. Well, we stopped in there post-renovation and they are even better! They have kept all the bakery and fresh bread, but have changed to more of an "Artisan Kitchen" with some excellent dishes on the menu. They still have all the nice wine choices the Ladies love, but along the wall as you enter, they have created a very nice Bar with about 20 Beers on tap. (Would have gotten a pic but the place was packed, very nice bar setup!) So to keep this review 3 paragraphs or less, all I can say is they have made a GREAT restaurant even better! Superb service, great atmosphere, great service, highest quality breads and dishes. It was a "top 5 in Virginia Beach" for me before, and is even better now. 5 stars! read more

We found this place when we were visiting the alien ship...I mean No Frill Grill in the same shopping center. At the time, Baker's Crust was sold to me as a nicer version of Panera Bread, but its more closely related to Cosi. On the last day of our beach vacay, I had the Chicken Guacamole Panini which was good, but a little dry. I got it with Chips and wound up with a whole bag of leftover homemade Parmesan-covered chips. I used to frequent both locations at hilltop and in the downtown Norfolk area all of the time when I lived in the area. I recently went to the hilltop location when visiting and the menu has changed, do not understand why they got rid of a number of favorite items. the jalapeño cheddar bread was certainly not as good as it used to be the food quality overall was just OK. Very disappointing as it is still owned by the same person so I am not sure why the food quality was not as good as it used to be I will not be frequenting this location again. it was always my go to restaurant. read more

Went in last week.. pizza was great! But the messed up my French toast and gave me oil and vinegar instead of syrup. They asked to fix the issue but I didn't even want it after that. Came in today.. pizza was not even cooked all the way. Didn't taste like the one I had last week. My fries look like they were double fried. Bypass Panera Bread and Atlanta Bread, go straight to Baker's Crust. This restaurant bakes fresh bread and desserts, and has a full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner with more pizazz than a chain restaurant. You can't go wrong here. Everything from french toast, soup in bread boules, gourmet salads, paninis, and dinner entrees -- it's all delicious. My favorite is the Roasted Tomato Mozzarella Panini, which has some of the best pesto I've ever had. Try their creamy tomato soup too. Whenever I eat there, I usually get a loaf of bread to take home. Save room for dessert! Baker's Crust serves several types of dessert crepes, just like you would get over in Europe. I'm always hunting around town for a good crepe and sadly, they are hard to come by in the states. I prefer the Noisette (Nutella with hazelnuts and topped with ice cream...holla!). The Diablotin with strawberries and chocolate mousse is a good choice as well. This is a great place to catch up with a friend, stay a while and enjoy coffee or wine. Initial service seems to be an issue at this location. Everytime we come here there is almost always no one there to greet you as you enter. In fact today, not a soul was present in the dining and bar area. They were all in the kitchen. I can understand that they were just opening and it was slow but still need someone there or a sign that says seat yourself. We ordered the swanky and pork belly benedicts. They seem to be our habitual choices. Food came out fairly quickly or so it seemed because we were entertaining ourselves while utilizing their free wifi. Our server, Rhianna, seemed busy at first but still managed to check up on us for coffee top offs. Towards the end of the meal, she was able to chit chat a little bit and becoming a little more personable, improving customer service in my opinion. Definitely a good spot for breakfast and need to try their lunch/dinner offerings sometime soon. read more

This is a family fav of ours. Whenever we ask our 2 young ones where they want to go, they always choose here to eat. They love the kids meal options. The pizza is our go to. It is very close to what we used to eat when we lived in Italy. If you go on Thursday's, they are $6 and pints are $3. We always get good service and look forward to returning. Food: 4 stars For the $10 restaurant week special My wife got the margarita flat bread pizza (basically a thin 12-14" cheese pizza with basil on it) and a praline bread pudding. I ordered the main menu a jersey grinder basically an Italian sub. My sub was pretty small and didn't have much meat 1 slice of each meat vs 2-3 slices in a regular sub elsewhere. Instead of getting their house made Parmesan potato chips I ordered fries. They came out hot, and were nicely seasoned with salt + pepper. My wife's pizza was great! You could taste that it was stone/fire baked and it came out freshly baked. The praline bread pudding didn't have many nuts/pralines but it did have a house-made vanilla cream sauce that was really sweet and tasty. It can serve 2-3 people well, especially after individual pizzas. Atmosphere: It is a cross between bar and pizz joint. There are booths, wooden chairs, and high chairs; so a variety of seating options. The pizza oven is prominently displayed and there is reclaimed wooden shiplapping on the walls. Clean, quiet and serval TVs displaying sports. Waiting time: zero wait time. The waitress walked us through the menu and specials. Offered a drink to go too. Definitely friendly and timely service. Would go back again just to try the huge variety of the menu. Next time: They make their own Parmesan potato chips so I would like to go back and try them. They also make calamari, poke bowls, and chili that looked great for a cold rainy day. Honestly the menu has a huge variety of things so picky eaters definitely have options. Five stars for excellent service, unique menu and delicious execution on all our entrees. The Maryland eggs Benedict with lump crab was scrumptious. Healthy helping of crab on each English muffin and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The Swanky Benedict is absolutely fantastic as well but is very filling so if you arent super hungry this would be a good dish to split. The Pork Belly Benedict was, again, delicious. I think I would request to have this made on a regular English muffin instead of the sweet potato biscuit they serve it on. Not sure why, I just didn't love the pork belly on the sweet biscuit though. The pork belly was not over cooked nor too salty- cooked to perfection! Our server was very friendly and prompt. I was a borderline camel at brunch and he never let my glass go empty. I hope to be able to come back and try he waffles! read more

9 times out of 10 the food will be bland. The most flavorful dish on the menu is their Smash Burger. Other than that everything else I've ordered has been BLAND BLAND BLAND. I recently ordered brunch and had the BC Buttermilk Biscuit. The chicken was not only BLAND but it was tough and had a rubber texture to it. It was very weird and off putting. Today I ordered the Smoky Bacon Burger and the patties were soooo BLAND. The cheese and bacon somewhat saved it but my goodness just season the food!! Made a to-go order this morning on my way to work. My portobello and arugula pizza was on the counter waiting for me and the to go guy was super helpful. He was more than happy to add a couple of drinks to my order at the last minute. Although, the place was crowded for the brunch rush I did feel rushed myself. I open the box and couldn't be happier with what saw. Fresh and crispy arugula and grilled portobellos on top of a perfectly cooked pizza straight from the brick oven. I have been going to Baker's Crust since we first moved here. Love the drinks, the food and the desserts. It has a nice cozy atmosphere inside. Service is usually top notch, I think Covid has taken a toll on all workers in the service industry. I work in one such place and there are good days and bad days - no matter what kind of paycheck you're bringing home - sometimes it's hard to just "people". I will say the one thing consistently that has been an issue is how the burgers are cooked. I'm just a no-pink kind of person. Can't do it. I had a few experiences where it comes out "pink" and I'll eat as much as I can but then have to stop, so I started ordering turkey burgers. I like those, just not as good as regular beef patty. I tried going back to the beef patty last night and once again 3/4 of the patty doesn't even appear to be cooked. I double checked the receipt, as I did pick up, and it indicates well done on there so I'm not sure what's going on. The fries were pretty good, but the burger was quite disappointing. read more

I love this place. The food and drinks are completely up my alley. My friend and I stopped in before a late night appointment at the esthetician so we were not going to be lingering. Obviously due to COVID, this establishment had outside sitting, Bar high top table sitting, and regular dining room sitting. My friend and I were sat at a high top table, which we were asked if that was ok...LOVED that. When at our table the bartender handling these tables mentioned she would be with us. She seemed to be occupied with take-out orders, taking orders over the phone and her physical tables. We felt completely ignored. It took a long time for our drink order to be taken. Once taken we were ready to order but she took the order and scurried away so fast we never got a chance to tell her we wanted to order our food. As we sat there multiple food runners approached our table to bring us food that we didn't order. We at this point was annoyed. Multiple tables seemed to get different level of service. So were having a conversation amongst each other about the clear lack of service we were receiving. Just getting our ordered drinks she took our order...at this point it had been 20-25 minutes from sitting down. She was apologetic because I am sure she overheard our remarks and obvious annoyance. Our food came quickly. But we still got the sense we were being over looked. And it could have been because we were not ordering tons of things...so we may have not looked like a big ticket table. I have been to this establishment before and received good service so it could have been a one time thing. This experience prompted my current review rating. I went in with my husband this past Saturday to get some lunch. When we first came in it was nice the staff were friendly however when we ordered our appetizer we got met with greasy cheese haphazardly melted on top of their house chips. We let it go and continued onto our main course which for me did not end well I ordered the bacon egg and cheeseburger with fries and while eating my burger I noticed something sticking out of the meat I thought it was some seasoning, proceeded to pull out at least a three inch hair from the burger patty. Now my husband also got a burger and had just finished his when I found that in mine I stopped eating immediately having lost my appetite wondering how much hair could've been in my burger that I did not catch. We then waited about 10 minutes for someone to check on us who I would assume is the manager for the day, when my husband explained what happened the manager proceeded to say " Nooo Way that can't be we take precautions for this". He did take the burger off our check but the nonchalant response leads me to believe this has happened before. I would not recommend this restaurant at all and if you go look at your food closely. read more

Was in town visiting my son and decided to visit this location for Mother's Day... I can understand that everybody is going to be busy, But we were lucky enough to grab some seats at the bar- Megan was phenomenal... I honestly do not know how she did it with such positive energy and a smile on her face... even though the food did take a while, we took her suggestions for the smash burger and the tuna poke and it was absolutely delicious... Even though she apparently had to wait on tables outside of her bar too on top of making all the drinks for the entire restaurant by herself (I honestly cannot understand how the higher-ups can't hire some help for this girl... I mentioned it, and she jokingly responded with "what? I'm I too slow for ya?!" LOL!!) she executed each task with poise and professionalism... my son keeps making fun of me telling me that I was more impressed with the bartender than I was with the food- but having been in this business before, I truly felt for her...
