This time we tried the croissant sandwich, the sunshine breakfast plate, and the French toast combo. When the French toast came out I was worried at first. It didn't look like it was cooked well enough but I was so wrong...it was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I was most excited about being able to order turkey bacon though. My daughter said her sandwich was good and my husband said his pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, eggs and potatoes were great. This place has some great food and I will continue to go and try something different every time.

The eggs were well poached, nice and runny yolk. The meat portion was good, it was a touch salty. Muffin was toasted well and the hash browns were good. The hollandaise sauce was a touch heavy on the lemon but I still enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly when I entered as well so the service was good. The setback for me was the price tag, it was almost $18 for just the benedict with hash brown, no drink or anything else. It's a bit high, I think for the quality and taste if it were a few bucks cheaper I'd give pretty high praise. Still, it was a pretty good experience and I'll probably give it another shot down the road.

24th Street Cafe is a classic go to. We ordered the 16 oz NY steak and the Chicken Fried Steak and…read moreeggs, biscuits and gravy, a side of cottage cheese, coffee and a Iced tea. The 16 oz. NY steak was amazingly tender and cooked perfectly, the kind of steak that really does not need much done to it because the flavor already speaks for itself. They served it with chimichurri sauce, which just was not exactly my cup of tea, but once I added Worcestershire sauce, it really brought out the flavor of an already all-star steak. The Chicken Fried Steak 'n' Eggs with hash browns was also very tasty Steak even the batter had flavor and definitely worth it. The chicken fried steak had that good comfort food quality to it, with a crispy outside, tender bite, and a savory flavor that worked really well with the eggs. The hash browns helped round everything out nicely and even the biscuits and gravy which im generally not a fan of was very good. Service from Holly, and I hope I got that right, was amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the visit feel easy and comfortable. Even the iced tea stood out to me because it tasted like the homemade sun tea I make every year by the pool, and that gave the whole meal an extra familiar touch. Overall, this was a very strong visit with a standout steak, a satisfying breakfast plate, and excellent service.

If it wasn't for the old stool decor, this place would not survive. Food was terrible. Ordered ny…read moresteak medium rare and country fried steak. NY steak came medium/well done. The steak was thin so it pretty much was all well done apart from the center being slightly pink. Such a disappointment. Country fried steak was one of the worst I've ever had, super dry, could have done with more gravy. Ordered drinks with less ice, glass came full of ice like an ordinary amount but went the wrong table at first. The restaurant was dirty. Needs sweeping as there was dirty tissue under our table before we entered but instead staff are cleaning the glass panels between the tables that aren't as dirty as the obvious tissues on the floor. Are they hoping the decor draws eyes up away from the dirty floor? 2 stars for the retro decor.

Recently a friend of mine told me he'd brought his family to Pappys and I asked him if their seats had been fixed. He said yes so the very next morning I woke up my lazy teen and preteen kids and carted us all to Pappys. The kids were captivated by all of the decor in the restaurant. I was enamored by the feeling of nostalgia, I'd missed the place. We were seated in a booth (that I didn't fall into) and given nice, new menus (I found a typo btw). We all decided to get the Freedom toast...of course I went with the stuffed option. The kids loved everything. I loved my freedom toast and eggs but my potatoes came out cold, like they'd been left sitting in the kitchen while they cooked the rest of our food. I am happy that they fixed their seating because now we have another great breakfast spot to matriculate. Although it was a bit expensive ($70+ for 3), I know everything is nowadays.

Service like that always elevates the experience. And let's talk about the food The chili verde skillet was delicious, loaded, flavorful, and straight up mouth-watering delicious. Every bite hit just right. My wife's chicken fried steak was also good. I've had chicken fried steak at different restaurants and they are all pretty much the same. Solid food, great service, good vibes. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in Bakersfield and want a Coffee Shop that serves a traditional breakfast, then this is your spot.
