It's a Christmas Eve tradition to have breakfast at the village Grill. There were 12 of us that showed up around 9 AM. It only took a minute for us to be seated. We had time to chat and look at the menu. There was plenty of coffee flowing. The server took our order. I thought the food came out quickly for the number of people that were being served. The food is tasty, the staff is friendly and efficient. The Village Grill is one of those places that is very comfortable to eat in, and sit around and enjoy good company. This is a great place for both lunch and breakfast. If you're in the Westchester area, and haven't tried Village Grill, you're missing out. Charming little place. The place was packed but we were seated after 10 minutes. Service was on the slower side and it took them a while to take our order and to bring out our food. But when they did it was delicious! My boyfriend and I both had chilaquiles (I didn't want eggs on mine). The serving size was a great amount and it tasted delicious! I like my potatoes diced small and crispy so when they brought them out and they were the complete opposite, I tried them but couldn't get myself to eat them. My boyfriend had ordered a pancake, which they never brought out, and we didn't get a chance to tell them since they didn't come to check on us. We did tell them when we payed. The restaurant is charming with an old school vibe and has one of the prettiest outdoor restaurant seating areas in Bakersfield. It is shaded with trees It's relatively quiet because the entrance faces the parking lot instead of street. Classic rock plays in the background. This is a breakfast & lunch restaurant open from 6:00am to 2:00 pm. One of the downsides to this restaurant is that it isn't open for dinner. The patio is so romantic. Jody was my friendly and attentive server. I ordered the Cobb salad and was not disappointed. It is served with a delicious grilled chicken breast, bacon, olives, bleu cheese, boiled egg on a bed of fresh crispy greens. Today we decided to visit Village Grill. We were greeted right away and our drink order was taken. After looking over the menu we decided on bacon, eggs with ranch potatoes and biscuit and gravy. My husband ordered the Village Grill omelette. Both dishes were delicious. We both really enjoyed the country potatoes. They had just the right flavor and I could have ate a whole bowl all by itself. It was pretty quiet as we were the only customers in the building besides a couple that were eating outside. Their out door seating looks very tranquil and it was really clean. Today my husband and I tried this spot for the first time as we had plans to go to the antique store nearby. It was very busy but we were greeted immediately. We were seated without too long of a wait and our drinks came immediately. The selection of food is small, but it's all delicious diner style options with a good variety of choices. We chose the daily special of clam chowder with fish and chips and it was yummy. My one complaint was that our soup and meals were served all at once, instead of serving the soup first, so we felt rushed to eat while things were still hot. This isn't a dealbreaker, just odd. We will come back with our children and try this restaurant out again. Our waitress was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Wow. How have I never been to Village Grill before? It reminds me of the wonderful cafes and pubs along the coast as you enter the patio covered with trees and shades. Just so spectacular you forget you're in Bakersfield. Now onto the food and hands down one of the best breakfasts I've eaten. The red potatoes with my chile verde omelette were seasoned and cooked to perfection with the right anoint of onion tossed in. The chile verde omelette was a big improvement over my past favorite chile verde omelette served at Renae's. This was so much better in every way. I love this place for its patio dining. On a nice day, sitting outside makes me feel like I'm some place else.. maybe a cafe in Los Angeles. I don't mean to throw shade at Bakersfield but feeling like you're some place else is a good thing sometimes. This day I was dining with my best friends and it was one of the first cool days so what a total win! Service is prompt and attentive. All of our drinks had an odd taste to them, as if they were prepared with well water. I first ordered an iced tea & then a Diet Coke. Both weird. The ice water didn't have this odd taste so that was a win. Our table ordered a side salad, chicken fettuccine, and breakfast special of banana waffles. All of the food was delish. I only got a photo of my own dish- the waffle, which was amazing. My friend was very happy with his fettuccine- I stole a bite of the garlic toast on the side and wanted more immediately, so maybe I'll order that next time. It looked so creamy and delectable. The atmosphere on that patio is so lovely. I've been coming here for years and have only sat inside once. Anyhow- the food is good and the patio dining is even better. We love to eat here after we go to Kaiser late mornings. There's always seating we never have to wait. As you can see by the pictures, they have booths and tables. The staff is very efficient. Always checking on us to see if we have everything we need. The food is great. I love the breakfast, but lunch is also very good. The menu has a lot to offer and it's hard to choose but I haven't had anything bad yet. The portion size is also really good. I have been coming to Village Grill for many years. I love their courtyard dining and friendly service. My daughter recently adopted a rescue pup and since she and I love to have breakfast together a few times a month we have been scouting out locations where Riley is welcome and comfy. Village Grill definitely fits the bill! One of the waitresses loved on Riley and even said that if my daughter wanted to find a home for her she wanted to adopt her. We had a portable dog watering bowl, but the server brought Riley a big bowl of cool water without us even requesting it...very thoughtful! Their pancakes and waffles are some of the best in Bakersfield. This time around I actually ordered the taco salad which was pretty tasty. I got it with their chili verde. It's definitely on the very mild side, but was meaty and seasoned well. The taco shell was flaky and crisp, the right ratio of lettuce (the good greens...not just shredded iceberg lettuce), chili beans, cheese, etc. There was more than enough to eat and I ended up taking it home for dinner. I asked for sour cream which added just the right amount of creaminess for me. My son had the ham steak with eggs, potatoes, and biscuits with gravy. The ham steak was beautiful! My other son and daughter had waffles and French toast with eggs and bacon/sausage and were very happy with their meals. My Bloody Mary added just the right touch with just the right amount of vodka. I'm used to a spicier Bloody Mary but this was flavorful. If you are going to enjoy the patio in summer be sure to go earlier in the day. There is plenty of shade but it was getting a bit warm at 11'ish!! They have space heaters to keep guests warm for cooler weather. Definitely support this family owned business! After church today we went to grab a bite to eat at a place we havent been to in such a long time. I used to like coming here but after today's visit I'm very disappointed. We arrived, we were not greeted, but ask how many and taken to our table. The menus where set down and our drink order taken. I must say it seemed okay at the begining. The waitress came took our order, I ordered chicken strips and fries my husband ordered a salad with ham and turkey in it. It wasnt long till the food was brought out. My side salad looked good with ranch on the side, I did ask for a little bbq sauce for my chicken. At first glance the chicken strips dont look like chicken they look like fish but it is chicken. My husbands salad was decent size, but my chicken was dry and the bbq sauce was the worst Ive tasted. So I just chose to use the ketchup. The ranch dressing tasted okay but was more on the watery side. When she brought the bill I noticed two things. I had been overcharged. My side salad was charged at $5.99 when the menu clearly said add a soup or salad for $2.99. Also I guess every ticket is charged a credit card fee. I have seen places charge a service fee for using a debit card but how do they dare add the fee before finding out that your not using cash? I spoke to a server about being over charged and so she went and spoke to our waitress who was outside. She said the server would be over to explain that the menu prices are higher than the menu shows. After a few minutes the server came over and said that they had updated menu prices and their system and so what I was being charged is the price. I kindly stated it didnt have those on the menu and would she honor the prices printed. She said she would and went to correct it. But the whole thing was done with a kind of attitude which I didnt appreciate. She brought back the ticket and we just got up to pay to get out of there. My chicken strips were still overcharged fom $11.99 to $13.99 so please beware. I did notice the mat at the entrance seemed pretty worn and dirty and the floor is really in need of deep cleaning. In a time where things are tough and so many eating places to choose from, it's sad to see some failing in cleanliness and customer service. And nobody wanted to go eat at a place where your not treated correctly and given lame excuses with attitude. I hope those in charge see and correct this before you lose customers. read more

Stopped in this morning on my way to work as I was craving bicuits and gravy and this place is nearby. I will not be back. I placed my order to go at the cashiers counter. I was charged a credit card processing fee even though I was paying cash. ?? The waitress corrected that with no apology. I had to ask for a receipt because the total still seemed a bit higher than expected. She had to get someone to help her print the receipt. When I reviewed it, I noticed that I was charged a$1.00 as a "to go" fee. When I questioned them on it, I was told that it was for the to go box. I responded by asking if I had sat at a table and requested a box for left overs, would I be charged that? They said no, but everyone charges for to go orders. This is not true, but ok whatever. I happily said ok, I just won't come back and order to go. They just as happily said "That's fine". This is just silly. A moment later I had my food and left and was given a very sarcastic "have a blessed day" on my way out. Very rude and very unnecessary. I was equally disappointed with the food. I ordered biscuitS and gravy....(plural) as listed on the menu. I received one biscuit and something that resembled gravy but tasted like white grease. No other flavor, just grease. It was disgusting and inedible. I had to just toss it. Unfortunately, this experience will result in me not returning and not recommending to others. read more

This was such a great lunch spot! Plenty of seating and our waitress filled up our waters several times. Chicken sandwich was delicious, great bread and good avocado. The last time I was here, everything was delicious and the service was great. This time it was a complete disappointment. Service was okay. Had 3 or 4 different people. Nothing special or stands out. I decided to order the chef salad because you know what you're getting. I was wrong. It was basically lettuce, lunch meat, a giant tomato slice cut in four and a little container of watery dressing. I knew it was a mistake the second they set it down. There was one carrot shred, no onion, no, cucumber, and no egg. A chef salad it was NOT! When I addressed the waitress she said I should have looked at the ingredients in the menu. And to be truthful, I should have. It said mixed greens, tomato, meat, and cheese. Oh, and an egg, which you have to have on a chef salad. I've never ordered a chef salad in the past that didn't have onions, cucumbers, croutons and egg. I let the waitress know that I was disappointed and she said it matched the menu description but they did forget the egg. She then asked if I wanted an egg on the side after. Seriously? I thought she was joking, but she was serious. (No concern, no smile). What bugs me the most is I'm the one who insisted we go there, when several of the others disagreed. Well I definitely learned my lesson. Even after politely expressing my disappointment and letting them know that it was not a chef salad, especially with no egg I got a stern look with no apology or any slight bit of compensation. I've never experienced service like that. So please make sure to read your description and make sure you're not missing anything because you will only be offered to get it on the side to eat separately. The restaurant faces F st but if your not paying attention, you can pass it. You can walk in from F st but the main entrance to be checked in is in the back. You walk in thru there outdoor seating patio area (which is very pleasant) and check in at podium. You can chose your own seating if your going to eat in the patio or be checked in to seat inside restaurant, which has plenty of seating. Our waitress was super nice and very patient with us. My wife couldn't decide and our waitress was helping out with suggestions. My wife ended up getting the French Toast Combo and I got the All 3 meat Omelet with country potatoes. Nothing fancy, food came out hot, fresh and was very good. We both enjoyed our plates. Our plates of food were generous amount and we couldn't finish them. We decided to eat in the patio area. Patio offers plenty of shade and we liked the garden feel, but keep in mind, you are seating outside and you are subject to some creepy crawlers. You'll see..
