Old River Grill came highly recommended by my Airbnb host in their binder of local spots to check out. One morning I woke up early and saw that they were open nearby, so I decided to check it out for myself. Please note there are multiple locations because there was another customer who came for a meet up and found themselves at the wrong location. The restaurant was spacious with diner bar seating and a bunch of tables and booths to choose from. Angelica helped me out and she was incredible. She was so sweet and on top of my order, and I notice how attentive she was with her other customers too. It's like she would bring over certain things before you had the chance to ask out of natural thoughtfulness. I had The Killer Kern Omelet ($20) and a Coffee ($5). My coffee cup was never empty and I was able to enjoy to my heart's delight. The Killer Kern and all of their omelets generously come with your choice of hash browns or home fries AND toast or biscuits and gravy. I opted for the home fries and the biscuits and gravy. Best decision ever! The food was prepared quickly. The Killer Kern omelet has thick cut bacon, fresh sausage, mushrooms, jalapenos, avocado and Monterey jack cheese. The omelet was well balanced and tasted healthy enough. A few of the bites had a strange texture as if egg shell got mixed into the omelet. The home fries are good. The real show stopper was the biscuits and gravy. Mhmmmm. This biscuit is a house made fresh biscuit and it was so warm and flakey. I was so full after eating half I was so sad I couldn't finish it all. And since I was traveling I wasn't able to take the rest with me. My family and I went out to breakfast for the first time here after my husband found this place online for gluten free options (celiac friendly). As someone with celiac, it is stressful finding new spots to eat! Although not listed on their menu, they have many gluten free options and their kitchen staff is well-versed in preventing cross-contamination. They told me they could make any of their pancake options gluten free, and the waitress went to let the kitchen staff know so they could make their preparations. The pancakes were AMAZING, and huge. I ended up only being able to eat 1/4 of the pancake and take the rest home for the next day. Eggs and bacon were great too! My kids ended up ordering pancakes and bacon and they loved theirs- they're asking us to go back soon! We come here often and that speaks volumes. I will not go somewhere I do not like. My favorite thing about this place is the monthly specials. I just have to try something from it every time I go. Our waitress was really great and helped me decide which special I wanted to try this time around. I went withthe Caprese Frittata served with the fresh watermelon salad. This was so dang delicious! My only gripe was the sneak attack of Serrano chiles in the watermelon salad. Whew were they spicy! I didn't see them mentioned on the menu but I honestly could've overlooked it. I like spice but Serrano chilies are a bit much for me. About halfway through the small bowl of salad I began taking the chilies out lol. My mother decided to get the Korean gochujang chicken and waffles and she absolutely loved them. My daughter got the pancake flight which had a cinnamon roll waffle, a strawberry and cream waffle and a peaches and cream waffle. Her favorite was the strawberry and cream one with the peaches and cream a close second. We were also given warm cinnamon coffee cake bread to start everything off that was amazing! Their parking was nice and big and bathrooms were very clean. We were sat out on the patio it was such a nice day - the day got warm, but they had fans out so it was just pleasant the whole time we were eating and no flies due to the fans! I had the California Benedict (omg get this), my husband had a birria chilequiles special and we didn't hear from him until his plate was clean. We just had lunch here and it was fabulous! The service was top notch and the decor was as cute as can be!! I had the pastrami and fries and it was so good!! We came early before the breakfast crowd and were quickly seated very efficiently. It's definitely a supreme breakfast experience and setting, warm, cozy, welcoming. Inside is camping/outdoorsy themed. Both of our waitresses was very friendly with us. My dad has extreme decision fatigue, and the waitress was so welcoming and patient! She recommended her favorites to us and was very kind. Our food took about average time to come. We ordered the Pineapple Upside Down Pancake Special and my dad ordered the Killer Kern Omelet. One thing is for sure, there are HUGE portions! It's definitely filling, but I love their sweet breakfast selection. After they "checked" on our order for the second time and it still didn't come out, we left. We've given them other opportunities since and the service was okay.
