We visited Stack's Cafe on a Monday morning. The restaurant was half full but only had two servers and one busser working the floor. Servers were working hard and efficient but we did have to wait a little bit to get our order placed. My spouse got the California Stack which was loaded with fresh avocado. My spouse normally can't finish a big breakfast but came very close to finishing this one since it was so tasty. I got the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. Eggs were cooked a perfect Over Easy and the Chicken Fried Steak was also very tasty. I requested an Ice Coffee since it was already 85 degrees at 8:30 am that morning which they did for me. The parking lot had a security monitor walking around and there were plenty of unhoused people milling around just outside the shopping center where Stack's Cafe is located so just pay attention of your surroundings. We definitely will return to Stack's Cafe next time we are in Bakersfield. read more

First visit to this Stacks café because one of the places I was expecting to have breakfast today only serves lunch except on Saturday. I'll keep you in the loop. We'll talk about it later anyway Stacks is it. The Grub : We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles, which at about $21 is the most expensive item on the menu. That said, it comes with your choice of bacon or sausage and eggs, so considering Bakersfield prices, I actually think it's a pretty good value. The chicken and waffles themselves were very good. My only complaint was that I wish they had gone a little lighter on the hot honey. There was so much poured over the waffle that it became slightly soggy before I really had a chance to taste how crispy the waffle was supposed to be. Even though it was mostly soggy, it was still very tasty. The chicken was probably about two strips cut into thirds, which made it look like there was more chicken than there actually was. It definitely wasn't a huge portion of chicken, but it was enough to fill me up. We also ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, which my friend -- whose brunch I bought that day -- described in his own words as "not very good, but good enough to eat." He said he's had much better chicken fried steak at several other places. The Service ‍ The service was actually good overall. There was just a little confusion when we were first seated. Our waitress originally thought the table we were placed at wasn't her section. There was some miscommunication between her and another employee, and she thought she was seating us at his table when, in reality, it was hers. When we first got to the table, there was still syrup on it -- and unfortunately, that syrup ended up on my shirt. No problem... I do have a washing machine , but I was definitely a little irritated that my fresh 9:30 AM shirt already needed a cleaning before brunch even got started. Other than that, the service was good. The waitresses and waiter we encountered all seemed to know what they were doing and were good at their jobs. Overall. 3 out of 5 stars. Despite the syrup adding an unexpected flavor to my shirt and a couple of little issues, the Hot Honey Chicken & Waffles were absolutely good enough to make me want to come back. This was my first visit to Stacks Café, and I'm hoping for an even better experience next time -- maybe with a little less honey on the waffle and a little less syrup on my table. read more

Santa Fe Stack was so delicious!! It was so hard to decide on which stack I wanted to try...guess I'll need to come more often to try them all! The server was amazing! She gave great suggestions and was super polite and attentive. I went on a Friday morning so it wasn't too busy. It was great timing. Not too loud. The mimosa flight was awesome! Great way to try multiple flavors. The cranberry and sunrise were my favorite flavors. Definitely not too sweet at all! Strong. I recommend getting the flight if you want to try different flavors. Stacks is a great place to meet because it's right in the middle. My wife was coming from the west I was coming from the east, and Stacks was right off the 99 freeway. We split the avocado BLT sandwich with fries. Service was quick. It's an ample size to plate and it satisfied us both. It was a beautiful day to sit outside. This is a great friendly neighborhood diner. That's perfect for a quick meal. read more

Have amazing breast fast! I had gone to the location in Las Vegas, so decided to try the one here in Bakersfield. I do recommend calling ahead and asking if you can make a reservation or be added to the waitlist. They have inside and outside seating. Once I was seated the waitress very kind and attentive. I had ordered a breakfast burrito and it was really good. I got full off of only half of the burrito but was well worth it. My sister in law ordered some red chilaquiles and said it was the best she had ever had. I recommend taking a light jacket because it was a little cold in there, just in case you plan on staying longer than usual. read more

I met 4 of my friends here for breakfast & right away, the restaurant was busy at 9:00 on a Saturday. That's how you know it's good. By the time we left, there were several parties waiting to be seated. I love the options & variety on the menu! My friends ordered a ham & cheese omelette, Santa Fe stack, chile verde stack, sides of tomatoes & pancakes (I forgot to take a pic of the pancakes) & I got the eggs Benedict. Everyone loved their food & ate their whole plates. I do have to say that the eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked & packed with rich flavor. I was also able to substitute my potatoes with fruit without an up charge, which is always good in my book! They also accommodated my fruit allergy & removed the melons for me. Such a simple gesture that truly makes all the difference. I also loved their coffee! Everything was reasonably priced! I paid $20 for my meal & coffee. The reason I gave 4 stars is because the service was slow. Our server was Angie & she was wonderful! She was friendly, we made good conversation & she was wonderful about accommodating my allergy, as well an ensuring I got my coffee refills! It was slow when we were waiting to pay. We waited at our table for about 20 minutes with our checks & cards ready. Eventually we all paid using the QR code, which is fine but it would've been better to communicate that they prefer us to pay that way & that they will not take our payment for us at the table. Stacks Cafe food definitely delivered. The country breakfast was fire, and the country potatoes were perfectly crispy just how I like them. The biscuits were soft and delicious, and even my husband enjoyed them too. I also had the California omelette with hash browns, and everything tasted really good. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, with a relaxed, classic diner feel that makes it a nice spot to sit down and enjoy a meal. The only downside was the service. Went in on a Monday afternoon for lunch. Staff service was quick and friendly. My favorite food is their breakfast options. The spicy chicken sandwhich was good, it was the average chicken sand which. I have a low spice tolerance and was perfectly fine. The redwood club sandwhich was also good, bacon was cooked crispy and the avocado was fresh. I will say, the chicken could use more flavor. Salt and pepper wasn't on the table, so I grabbed it from another one across from us. I asked for Tajín rims on our mimosas, didn't get that. Simply put, Stack's Cafe is a delightful eatery. It is very spacious with excellent lighting and quirky decor. We arrived at 11 this morning and nearly all the tables were occupied. We were seated to the right of the front door. It wasn't the ideal space because each time the door opened and it opened a lot while we sat there, there was a gust of cold wind. Our server was very attentive and apologetic (for the delays). As for the food, every dish was made with love and nuanced with care. We cannot wait to return. read more

Came in the during the week to meet for breakfast. There was plenty of parking available. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming and the bathroom was clean. Our server told us they're known for the chile verde, so a couple of us at the table ordered the chile verde stack and omelet. I did try the chile verde stack and it was delicious. The portion size was more than enough for 1 person. My wife and I could probably share the stack and feel satisfied. I ordered a burger since I already ate breakfast that morning, plus I enjoy trying burgers at different places around town.The burger and fries was good, although not my favorite in Bakersfield. This was our first time visiting Stack's Cafe after talking about trying it for a few weeks. We finally made it in around noon and were seated right away. The restaurant has an open kitchen concept, which we were actually excited about since you can see everything being prepared. Unfortunately, that's where things went wrong. We were seated right in front of the kitchen, and my wife began noticing some concerning food safety issues from one of the cooks. She observed him handling ready to eat, cooked food with his bare hands, including picking up avocado from her California omelette so another cook could add cheese underneath. Shortly after, she saw him rub his nose and continue working without washing his hands. The final straw was watching him grab a pinch of scrambled eggs from a plate on the hot line and eat it with his fingers. At that point, we were completely turned off. We had already placed our order, but there was no way we were going to eat after seeing that. My wife went to the counter and let the server know what she had witnessed, and we left. It's disappointing because the menu looked great and we were really looking forward to trying this place. I'm not sure how this behavior isn't being noticed or addressed by other staff, but based on what we saw, it didn't seem like a one-time thing. I hope management takes this seriously, reviews their cameras, and reinforces proper food safety standards. read more
