    Tres Leches Cake
    Rahn C.

Great place to pick up a quick bday cake. Staff is very friendly and will write on the cake for free. (Btw beautiful cake writing) I paid $30 for a round Tres Leches cake; great flavors- very sweet and moist. FYI- store is inside a building with multiple store. Will help if you speak Spanish but staff does speak English.

Best Tres Leches. Ive been a TL fan for two decades before TL was a thing and have since tried many. This is legit. And great customer service. Go. And enjoy.

After downing a belly full of menudo with chopped tripe at Obelisco across the street, one would think I would have no room for dessert. But I can't help myself when I'm in this part of Oakland where Mexican sweets could be purchased for mere shekels. I went into the little mall behind the churro wagon and knew I had to decide between a mangonada at Nieves Cinco de Mayo or something from the bins at this bakery. Since I've had the mangonada and was a bit overwhelmed by its sweetness much less the bold colors, I decided to peruse the bins with my plastic tray and my pair of tongs to find things that would satisfy my sweet tooth. Like any good panaderia, there are plenty of options to consider here (photo: http://bit.ly/1g0KkJm). At the same time, I was bedazzled by the color-blind specialty cakes that appear to be the main draw here. There were such intense dyes being used that I couldn't tell you what colors they were supposed to be. They looked like Disney cakes on crack. Among the pastries, I decided to grab a horn o'plenty filled with a custardy cream and then wisely switched to the cookie section where I was instructed to use the tissue paper instead of the tongs (photo: http://bit.ly/1IaoOrC). I got a coffee-flavored cookie, a plain one with mini-chocolate chips and in a particularly festive mood, a big sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles (photo: http://bit.ly/1Kietha). For less than $10, I was able to have bites of all of them and still make my BART train. Hasta la vista, panadero! BAKED GOODS - 3 stars...lots of choices, variable levels of sweet tooth satisfaction AMBIANCE - 3 stars...actually plenty of room if you want to gorge on your pastries there, just don't mind the flies SERVICE - 2.5 stars...a bit tentative, probably need to work on my Spanish TOTAL - 3 stars...as panaderias go, not a bad one to try if you're in the heart of Fruitvale

Their pumpkin turnovers are delicious! They also have a diverse selection. Every time I go to El Sol, I usually see something new. Come support small businesses.

The pastries and cookies here are top notch, they are always prepared fresh daily by their friendly staff members and are always consistent in size and texture. Their prices are comparable to other bakeries around BART, donuts range from $.75-$2.00 each for larger pastries. All of their baked goods are delcious, but I always suggest that new patrons try their Cinnamon old fashioned donut, they take the classic concept of a churro and shape it into something more familiar, and it is beyond fantastic.

Is this a tres leches cake or not?

Great spot for a quick dinner at an affordable price!…read more My partner and I stopped by Arizmendi to check it out and get a daily special on a Sunday. In total, we paid $7.50, which was not bad at all! The space is spacious inside with an ample parking lot, but I would say this is more of a grab-and-go place; there is some outdoor seating. We got a pizza with tomato, olive oil, feta, and olives. The service was quick, straightforward, and we were able to get our slices within 5 minutes and it came out hot which was great! The pizza itself is on the thinner side and has a good ratio of dough to cheese. The crust/base was chewy and light and did in fact, taste healthy (in a good way)! Do I think this place is somewhere you must go to try out? Honestly, no, it is a good value pizza that tastes delicious, but I would say to only stop in if you are around the area.

One recent morning on my way to a work shift, I noticed that I had some extra time and was right by the Emeryville location. I found myself in the parking lot wondering why I always drove by and never noticed the shop! It's a cozy little bakery with all the goods posted up for picking by the customers. After eyeing some sweet treats, I decided on grabbing a pecan roll and ordering a mocha to complement it. Staff were nice and moved swiftly in making my drink, which came out just 2 minutes after ordering. When I tried the roll, it was delicious! I thought it would. be sweeter but it definitely was a surprise when I bit in and found myself finding it to be "not too sweet." I'm hoping to come back again soon to try some more pastries and maybe even a pizza!

The thin crispy sourdough was very tasty and the pizza was piping hot with lots of flavor. Pecan chocolate chip was good too, chewy with good balance of flavors. Would recommend.

Arizmendi Bakery is a Bay Area institution and it absolutely earns the hype…read more The pizza alone is worth the trip -- they only do one flavor a day, but whatever's on the rotation is consistently incredible. Thick, chewy, perfectly charred crust with a sourdough tang that you just don't get from regular pizza dough. Toppings are fresh and generous without being overloaded. Grab a slice (or a whole pie) and you'll understand why people plan their day around what flavor is being served. The sourdough bread is just as good -- crackly crust, open airy crumb, and that deep tangy flavor that tells you it's been properly fermented. This isn't supermarket sourdough; it's the kind of loaf that makes plain butter taste like a gourmet experience. It's a worker-owned cooperative too, which makes supporting them feel even better. Expect a line, especially on weekends, but it moves quickly and is so worth the wait.
