While it's not the best food I've ever had, Bakery Plus holds a special place in heart because it was one of my hang out and escape places in high school. It was less than a mile from my school making for the perfect temporary get away before soccer practice and before first period. This helps explain the hoards of school kids you may have to wade through if you go early in the morning or mid afternoon. The food is average...nothing special, but satisfying if you're craving a bagel and cream cheese or donuts. I was never into their donuts, but I was obsessed with their blueberry bagel (mainly because it was freakishly purple) with regular cream cheese. The perfect fuel before a major soccer game! The prices are also cheap, another reason why we loved this place so much. I had a craving for fresh bagels this morning. Having passed Bakery Plus a number of times while traveling down Michigan St. I figured I would give them a shot. How I wish I hadn't. When I arrived at the drive-thru, nobody was there, and it was a good 30 seconds before anyone came to the window. The gentleman that took my order had the personality of a wet sponge and didn't even bother to tell me my total before taking my money. To top it all off, now that I think about it, I didn't even get a receipt. The bagels smelled good on the ride home, but when I opened the box, all I thought was "he gave me rolls". These are the farthest things from bagels you can get. I've seen pillows less fluffy than these were. Seriously, they are rolls with holes. The cream cheese was good, though, so there was that... What I wanted and what I got were so far apart from each other, I would highly recommend going elsewhere for bagels. And by elsewhere I mean even Lender's Bagels at the grocery store. The added star is for the relatively low cost of $7.35 for a half dozen bagels and a tub of cream cheese, but value doesn't really mean much when you don't even want to eat them to begin with. read more

I came here to pick up some breakfast for my friends and Because I saw the reviews on Yelp I decided to give this local business a go instead of the usual Dunkin' or Einstein Bros. The parking lot is small and the building looks dingy. The inside is even dingier...There was quite a line but it gave me time to look over the variety of donuts they had. I ordered 3 plain bagels with plain cream cheese and four donuts. (I wanted one cinnamon bagel but they were out and I guess once they're out, they don't make more?!) I was also unaware they that DON'T accept debit/credit (you expect most places to these days), luckily I had a $10 bill on me. I guess they are able to keep their prices so low by keeping it a strict CASH ONLY business. I waited about 5 minutes for my bagels to come out since the donuts are ready to go. The employees here are very slow and not that friendly. Working at a breakfast joint, you know 95% of your customers are probably heading to work and don't have time to waste. They should have a sense of urgency and want to get people in and out as soon as possible. When I got in my car I pulled out one bagel and my heart sank. The thing in my hand could not possibly, on any continent or universe, be considered a bagel. Bagels are hard and toasted to a golden brown color on the outside and doughy on the inside. This thing was a piece of mush. Mush I tell you! It was totally flat, not appealing and could've passed as a biscuit. Seriously, I would've have been better off buying prepackaged bagels from a grocery store. I was so upset I wanted to throw the thing out the window. I tried one donut (plain with powdered sugar) and it was good. I got two donuts with vanilla icing and sprinkles for my friends and my boyfriend said it was really, really good. I make a pit stop at Bakery Plus while on my way to work about once a month. One of my favorite things to order is the egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Unlike chain places, you're getting a real egg that was freshly made and the cheese is real too. What really makes the sandwich, is the bagel. Bakery Plus bagels are more like a hybrid of a bagel and a croissant. They are very soft and airy. If you are a bagel purist and consider NY bagels to be the holy grail of bagels, you may not like these as bagels (but if you shift your mindset... you probably will). The staff is always friendly in a no frills kind of way. If you aren't stopping by for breakfast sandwiches, the doughnuts are of course delicious. read more

I wasn't even a fan of donuts until I went in this place... Now I'm a regular here. Their donuts are soooooo good! I usually get a sour cream old fashioned, but sometimes I get a bacon & egg croissant if I'm really hungry. Bakery Plus is family owned and operated and the people are so friendly. I Use to be a regular there. Perfectly average food at low prices. You get what you pay for here. All the employees in the front are amazingly nice. The lady running the place is mean. I ordered a turkey, egg and cheese croissant. The mean lady came out from the back yelling the order for pick up. I just heard the egg and cheese croissant part, and thought it was mine. When we discovered the mistake, she yelled across the restaurant "Now who's going to pay for this one?" (The actual turkey egg and cheese croissant). She then gave me an attitude and wanted me to pay for the mistake. I got upset that she was embarrassing me in front of the entire restaurant and left. Hubs and I went here for breakfast, and we got a egg and cheese bagel sandwich and a half dozen doughnuts. The bagel is nothing like a conventional bagel. If you have had bagels in Jersey, you would find it laughable that they even call it a bagel. It did not have a firm exterior or chewy center; it was more like a breakfast roll. It wasn't a bad breakfast sandwich, but the word "bagel" is a complete misnomer. The old-fashioned doughnuts were the best, in my opinion. The texture and taste were spot on. The filled doughnuts, we got lemon and Boston cream, were also very good. The cake doughnuts was mediocore, not bad but nothing remarkable. On the whole, the doughnuts were much better than what you find at Dunkin Doughnuts or Krispy Kreme. As an aside, I found it a little off-putting that they kept much of their inventory (e.g. boxes of cups and cup carriers) stacked out in the open rather than in a storage cabinet or supply closet. It made the interior seating area feel unkempt. Cash only, and the prices were totally reasonable. read more

What a gem. This is one of those places that made me go, "why the hell did it take me so long to check it out?!" First things first, CASH ONLY. So keep that in mind. Now, bagels and donuts are what they offer. They have the standard bagels, nothing more, and the standard donut flavors as well. It's not a large collection, but what they have are all delicious. Honestly, I like the minimal selection. A whole wall of donuts is never necessary. As others have said, this is not your typical, tough, and chewy bagels. They're soft, airy, and actually very slightly sweet. They are amazing when toasted with cream cheese, or as a breakfast sandwich with ham/bacon, cheese, and egg. They make all the ingredients fresh to order. I personally prefer the lightly grilled ham with cheese and egg on my bagel. Their donuts are also soft, flavorful, and crazy good. The bagels and donuts are great but the 2/5 star rating is for the appearance, smell and lack of current technology being used in this little spot. Imagine how much more business this place would generate if they stayed up to date with a credit card machine. Credit cards aren't going anywhere so it's necessary for a business to adapt in order to stay around. Also, I couldn't bear the smell of cigarettes while I tried to enjoy my ham, egg and cheese bagel. I don't know how people still dine in with such a strong cigarette smell and numerous dirty tables. I figured I'd give it a go because of all the great reviews and high ratings on yelp but it's a really run down looking place that needs a little fixing up and more cleanliness. We stopped in to grab a cream cheese filled doughnut. They were wiped out by some guy with a business meeting. Once they are gone, that is it. The selection was pretty narrow by the time we got there just after noon so go early. They are cooked fresh daily so you know you are getting new stuff, and from the looks of it, they ought to be pretty good as fast as they go. Perhaps next time. The doughnuts we did get were good, but not my favorite. The inside looks pretty 1960s waffle house. I hope I can catch the good stuff on the next trip. read more

this bakery has one of the best service i have ever had, they tended to my needs and were friendly. they do get busy so if you do go during the rush we may have to wait. the donuts were so amazing and also the breakfast sandwhiches a bagel sandwhiche cost 2.95 a crossonit is only 3.25 with egg and cheese and any choice of meat i love this place its a must. btw the interior ain't pretty but the food and service well worth it read more

This is a nice little place, right by my sons school so we will go in for a treat or snack pretty regularly. The food is always fresh and absolutely delicious.
