I had never heard of "Baking with Melissa," but was lucky enough to find her online while looking for baking party ideas for my daughter's birthday. My daughter loves to bake and wanted a baking-themed 9th birthday party, but I'm not so swift in the kitchen, so needed to hire someone to work with the guests. Melissa helped me to create one of the best, most-memorable and EASIEST parties I have ever given (and with 3 kids, that's a lot of parties!). She is prompt and pleasant and extremely professional. Melissa came looking the part, and my daughter and her friends were immediately drawn to her. She set it all up and ran the whole party for the next 2 and a half hours. My husband and I literally sat in the living room, enjoying the rest! Melissa knows how to engage with the kids in a fun and funny way, while still really teaching them about the art of cooking. Birthdays are a big deal in my house. I always had a great party as a kid and I keep up the tradition for my own children. Usually there is a lot of work that goes into our parties, a LOT of work, but this year my daughter wanted a Baking with Melissa party. We had Melissa for our daughters 6th birthday party. My daughter loves beanie boo dolls so Miss Melissa showed the girls how to decorate cupcakes to look like beanie boo bunnies. I've had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Melissa's desserts a few times now-- and anytime I find out she was the baker that has catered an event I attend, I can barely control myself. Her cookie cupcakes and cookie bars are TO DIE FOR. I would seriously contemplate taking a bullet for one of those things. This was the best party I have ever had for my daughter who just turned 7. Melissa arrived at our house at noon in her cute pink outfit and set up on my dining room table while the 14 girls ate lunch in the other room. She helped me round up the girls at 12:30, and she had them fully entertained until 2 pm. I didn't have to do a thing! She taught them cake decorating techniques, played a food tasting game with them using blindfolds, decorated their wrists with jewel bracelets, and had them make chef hats using stencil designs. The cookie cakes that she had pre-baked looked beautiful when the children were done decorating them! All of the guests had a blast, and my daughter was one happy girl. I wish I could give Melissa more stars! She was so amazing, from the moment we called her, to the moment she hugged us goodbye after the amazing party! When we first talked she was very helpful and we came up with a great party idea for our 3 year old birthday girl. The kids got aprons, decorated their own chefs hats, got to be a part of baking their own cupcakes and then decorating them as well! What I loved the most was Melissa's way with the kids while teaching them how to bake! She handled those 13 kids (10 of them 3 years old!And 3 of them 6 years old) with complete ease and they loved her! They were always entertained, from coloring projects while their cupcakes cooked, to sparkle sticker bracelets while passing out ingredients. She could read their moods and gauge what they needed/when they needed it. And to top it all off, the cupcakes were delicious! Baking With Melissa was EXACTLY the party my daughter wanted for her 12th Birthday. I was so impressed by Melissa's organization and creativity. From start to finish, Melissa had everything under control. We had eleven girls, and she kept them engaged and entertained for over 2.5 hours. Melissa provided adorable aprons for each girl and they all decorated their own chef hat. As Melissa went through the process of making a cupcake by scratch, the girls enjoyed each step. We had requested a "cupcake challenge" party and Melissa did a wonderful job with this. The girls separated into two teams and came up with their own designs for three themed challenges, using all of the materials that Melissa provided. The girls had a blast! I can't really express how impressed I was with Melissa's handling of the entire party. She came in with everything she and the kids could possibly need, and she cleaned everything up at the end.
