This is my second time calling Michael. He came out since we are having intermittent issues with our washing machine. He is as honest as they get. Said that the machine we have contains several boards that is hard to diagnose. In our case it's best to have Sears authorized repair since they are kenmore brand. I don't like to post a bad review for anyone, but I also like to honor the spirit of my interactions and share those honest & genuine experiences with others, positive or negative, with the intent of helping others; even if that, only by default, helps a business improve in areas that are lacking. I also hate the idea of being the only negative review on someone's page as that tells me that my experience may not be typical. In my case, I didn't actually get my fridge fixed by Michael, so I can't earnestly speak to his repair abilities. I made an appointment to get my fridge fixed. He cancelled the first one, citing issues with the recent flooding in San Marcos, and having friends affected by that, I would never fault him for that. He called twice the day before our rescheduled appointment to verify citing a computer issue which dumped his appointments, but we confirmed verbally. On the day of the appointment, about an hour after the time, I called to inquire as to when I could expect him. He said it would be another 2 hours. I asked why he hadn't called and he just offered a discount. For me; I would rather have had the consideration of a phone call as my time is valuable. But he was going to be on his way soon, so I was still happy. He arrived and checked it out and said he had to order the part, which would take 3 days. He quoted me a price and indicated that was the discounted price. I understood him not having all the parts for all makes and models and 3 days sounded reasonable. Note: I waited over 3 weeks from that date to write this review. In these past 3 weeks, I haven't heard from Michael once. I don't know if he lost my number, had an issue with the part supplier or what, but at this point, I'm done. Lack of follow through & poor (or no, in this case) communication are things that a business should live or die by and there's simply no excuse for 3 days to turn into 3 weeks without any communication, and that comes on 2 prior incidents of poor follow thru and communication. Am I picky? Perhaps, but I don't think it's asking too much for businesses to do what they say they are going to do and to communicate if something comes up that will prevent that from happening. Obviously from the other reviews, he's been able to please others in a way that he was not able to with me, but as to why that is, I can't say and at this point, I'm not willing to try and figure that out. ----------------------------------------- Added on 8/15/15 I also wanted to point out another thing that makes me feel like I was being ripped off. The part I needed for my fridge Michael said "Whirlpool charges $275 for". Once I started looking, I have seen this same exact part everywhere from Sears.com to Amazon for anywhere from $63 to $75. Granted, maybe the $275 Michael quote was including labor (which he didn't indicate), but if that's his markup on parts, that seems exorbitant to me. I don't fault him for making a profit; otherwise he couldn't stay in business, but a 4x mark up is a rip-off. read more

Had trouble with our fridge and then had trouble with the first company (Freezer Man) that we called and they were terrible. I called Balcones and Michael got back to me in 10 minutes, he was out to see us in an hour...unfortunately, our problem was bigger than we originally thought and he recommended that we purchase a new refrigerator...the cost of repair and possibility of it breaking again were high. Hi, I phoned Mike this morning, explained my washer's issue, he told me to unplug it, wait 5 minutes, plug it back in, hit cancel and see if that worked. It did!!! It just needed a reset. He could have driven over here, done the same thing, and charged me for a service call. Some people would have. I appreciate working with honest people. When I called the company no one answered but I left a message anyway. So many small businesses don't return calls so I was pleased when Mike returned my call within five minutes. He was able to squeeze me in within 30 minutes due to a cancellation. He went right to work on our washing machine and determined it was too expensive to replace parts. However, he was able to get the washer working on a temporary basis and he gave us tips for loading it to extend its function. His prices are also very reasonable. read more

Michael was great! Our refrigerator stopped working completely, and I had a shockingly difficult time finding a company that serviced Kyle. Even the companies based in South Austin wouldn't come out. So out of desperation, I just started calling every company I found on Yelp. After 7 or so no's, I reached Michael. He came out the next day and diagnosed the problem. Unfortunately a part was back ordered, but he looked around and found another company that got it here within a few days. Once it arrived, he called me and was working on the fridge 30 minutes later. My dishwasher broke. I called Balcones at 4 in the afternoon, expecting to have to wait until the following day for an appointment, but someone was able to come out within an hour! They had to order a replacement pet and he called around to find the closest town with the part in stock so I wouldn't have to wait too long. Outstanding customer service from someone you'll be happy to have in your home. Our freezer door wasn't closing properly (we knew going in that we had caused the misalignment by trying to force too much into the drawer) and Michael fixed us up quickly and for a very fair price.
