I ordered the Adana Burger which was about $7.25 A Grilled homemade burger mixed with chilies and herbs in hot daily baked bread. Served with tomatoes,onions and kaymak. It was a fairly large sandwich so that was promising.. It came wrapped in foil and was in closed in a white styrofoam box where onions and tomatoes were inside. After adding all my trimmings of onion tomato and the kaymak sauce I took a bite of the "burger" there was a nice spice too it. But the sandwich was missing a fresh element. It was just decent nothing really set it apart as a great sandwich. Overall decent food.Not the greatest value especially for delivery. 10.00 is what it rounded out to be plus tip and taxes. My friend. The cigar borek is stunning. I mean absolutely memorable and delicious. The mucver was something we ordered kind of on a lark, and I was totally blown away by those zucchini fritters. Love them with their accompanying sauce. I'd suggest choosing the wrap option when a sandwich and wrap style are available for similar items. Baklava was soggy and didn't taste right. If you have ever tried Baklava, you know that it's never supposed to be soggy. Like, what? I spent many years in the Balkans and was looking for a place where I can take the family for some borek and cevapcici. Managed to find this place a few months back on Yelp but it is to far from Vienna. This morning we had an appointment in Alexandria and when the kids got peckish I used the good old "I have just the spot". Another "hole in the wall" that you must try. It is different but in a good way. Read some of the yelp reviews before me. Folks do a good job in describing what to order and how to make those orders as yummy as possible. The rule of thumb is whatever is on your plate mix it into your burger etc. Messy but seriously good. We got the Adana burger (spicy), the meat borek and cevapcici. They were all just like I remember them. Full blown authentic! The price was good and the service was with a smile. Small restaurant so don't expect much in the sense of seating so make it a "to go order" if you don't like being cramped. The EU store next door sells all kinds of fun food and drink. Top tip: The Sarajevsko Pivo (beer) will give you a headache you will never ever forget.....I still remember:). Excellent food. Had the donor kebab sandwich - It was very good, lots of meat but I would have liked the veggies on top instead of all at the bottom. I really enjoyed the mint sauce that they gave us to use- it was almost like a tzatziki sauce. We also had the borek- layers of filo dough filled with cheese. Reminded me of spanakopita. While waiting for the food we went to the small Balkan market next door and bought a few things. Will be back to try their desserts. read more

This is my third order from Balkan Grill, the first and third were delivery, the second I picked it up. For both deliveries, the food was ice cold. When I picked it up, I called in and then proceeded to wait about 45 minutes for the food to be ready when I went to pick it up. Now, the thing that keeps me coming back is the food is quite good! I've had the Adana burger, the donor kebab, the cheese borek, falafel, and spinach borek. Tonight I ordered chicken kebab. I ordered the cheese borek for tonight's meal and was sad to see that they were out of the cheese and had substituted spinach. I have had the spinach, and did not like it at all. I would've appreciated a phone call as I would've chosen something else. Now I paid for something, again, that I don't like. The kebab, while very tasty, seems awfully small for a $15 price. (Perhaps the price covers the almost entire onion on the salad? I hate onions...) I think I'll give this place one more try, as the food is very good. Hole in the wall WIN! Where did this place come from?? I for one do not come across Turkish/Bosnian/Ukrainian/that-kind-of-Mediterranean food often in NoVA...well, ever. Thank you, Yelp App. for this find! More of a take-out type of place, Balkan Grill has roughly 6 bar stools for you to sit on if you do decide to dine-in. Which we did. To kill some time, however, we explored the Turkish grocery store the Grill was attached to - full of chocolates, candies, coffee, and other Turkish packaged foods and drinks for you to take home. Time was killed and food was ready to be consumed. Like everyone had suggested, we went with the Burek with beef for appetizer (which could very well be eaten as the meal), fries, and a couple spicy Adana burgers. All of it was excellent! The fries were your standard fries but cooked just right, the beef Burek juicy, and the massive Adana burgers spiced just right - but go ahead and ask for some hot sauce on the side to turn it up if you need it....or if you enjoy whipping a runny nose while eating. Be warned now though, even for those who are going in very hungry: the portions really are quite large. Share or be prepared for a take-out box. WOW, where do we start!?!?!? The food in this place is absolutely amazing, my wife and I decided to try two favorites that were recommended by other fellow Yelpers. The Adana Burger and the spicy chicken sandwich were exactly as described by our peers..."excellent." Make sure you put plenty of the yogurt side condiment on your food...it complements the dishes accordingly. We also tried the cheese filled Börek and it was divine. My wife stated "this is where cravings start" The Börek tastes like a light and fluffy croissant filled with a tangy cream cheese flavor, it's tough to describe...just try it! My wife and I are real authentic cultural foodies and we knew we were in the right place because everyone working there, including ALL the customers picking up to-go orders were not speaking English...AUTHENTIC!! The staff and service was spectacular, they took the time to help us select the right menu item and checked in with us to ensure we were happy with our order. I found out about this place accidentally while I was searching online for something completely irrelevant, I saw lots of good comments on yelp and decided to check it out . Obviously you know the address .I got there late , street was dark and I almost missed the entry to strip . there are plenty of parking spots around . It's a small shop , I was received nicely and ordered cheese borek and Iskandar kabab. Btw Iskandar is turkified Alexander , if you did not know . Came here for a quick lunch. Very small place that is attached to a European market. You can eat in or carry-out. Very limited seating but we came here on a weekday during lunch time and it was very quiet so we decided to eat there. My BF had the Bosnian Burger (spicy) and I had the Doner Kebab Sandwich. The sizes for these 2 were huge and the bread that they came in were similar to pita bread. The spices for the Bosnian Burger was very good and had a nice kick to it. The Doner Kebab Sandwich came with a side of yogurt sauce and spicy chili sauce. It was filled to the brim with meat, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and bell peppers. We fell in love with Balkan Grill when they use to have a store in Rockville. It is sooooo incredibly good we make a point to drive over if we're ever remotely in the area (like flying in/out of Reagan). You absolutely, positively must try the Kofte. It's little sausages served in amazing cibatta-like bread, served with veggies and something similar to sour cream on the side. They always oblige me with grilling the veggies and it is straight up banging! 5 pieces of sausage is actually more than enough food. Customer service here is wonderful and they're incredibly kind. The only down side to this location (apart from being sooooo far away) is how small it is. I've always been able to grab a seat, but it is small and not good for large groups. read more

The Balkan Grill is really out of the way for me but sometimes I just have to go because I'll sit around for weeks dreaming of their burek. Potato burek tastes like breakfast food (like hashbrowns I guess). I always get cheese burek because it's so delicious but last time I decided to try the meat. Meat burek wins, it was so tender and full of flavor. My friends all love the cevapi and pljeskavice (which is huge!). I don't think anyone's mentioned there's a little store attached to the restaurant. You can buy all sorts of Balkan goodies there like ajvar, kajmak, lots of chocolates/candies (Dorina chocolate bars, Ki-Ki, bananko, etc) wines from all over, BCS movies/magazines, even basic dzezva sets and Bosnian coffee. [The Cosmopolitan Grill in Alexandria is also very good (and similar), but an actual sit down restaurant versus mini restaurant/store. A little hole in the wall establishment that offers delicious food. I've been to this place several times and the food is always good. I tried the Adana burger which is my favorite because the spices makes this burger absolutely delicious (even though it looks pretty plain). I've also tried the Doner Kabob sandwich which was also good, but not as tasty as the Adana burger (my girlfriend liked this sandwich more than the burger). Their Baklava is fresh and delicious (though it has more syrup than what I've had at other places). Finally, I also recommend that you get one of the "Frutti" drink bottles that they have in their fridge; it is a mineral water drink that comes in some really tasty flavors, I suggest that you try the Melon flavored one. There's still a lot of items that I need to try out, so I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

I ordered a falafel sandwich today. It was the worst falafel sandwich I have ever had. There was no tahini, there were no cucumbers (they used green bell peppers instead). All of the falafel was in the upper half of the pita. The onions, tomatoes and green bell pepper was in the bottom half of the pita. The burger patty itself measured about 7-8 inches across!! It was little on the dry side, but very flavorful and delicious. The Fried Tilapia was very good considering I don't really like tilapia. It's normally too "fishy" tasting for me, but the Fried Tilapia wasn't "fishy" at all. As usual, we went for Yelp's most mentioned dishes: the Cevipcici and the Adana burger. Both are primarily ground meat dishes. The cevipcici being pork and the Adana being spicy beef. Both are clearly made with a very similar spicing and grinding protocol. Which is quite good, but lacks diversity of flavor. The only real difference I detected in the two meats was the level of spice in the Adana. They add some form of dry heat, probably Cayenne to the burger. Which is OK, but seems superfluous to the dish. Each plate comes with condiments on the side: tomato, onion, and a sour cream/mayo type blend. The vegetables weren't standouts (could be fresher) but the sauce/mayo was excellent and quite a nice playing partner for the spicy burger. The real winner here was the bread. It's outstanding. Moist, chewy, not quite pita/not quite sourdough kind of feel. Really phenomenal. The service was good and friendly. I do recommend this spot. I withhold five stars because of the lack of diversity of flavor I experienced. read more
