This is my absolute favorite pizza and drinks place in Austin. If you like NY or Boston brick oven style pizza with QUALITY ingredients (that's your priority over price), you can't go wrong here. And they have a SERIOUS bar and cocktail repertoire. I originally came with a friend during their normal times and came back for happy hour (pizzas 1/2 off and heavily discounted frozen drinks and beer & wine). I'll def be back. Honestly they're normally in my price range during HH only which is hard to work with my work schedule BUT they're worth whatever you pay. Just a matter of can you afford. The service is extremely good so I don't have a big problem with the 20% auto-added though that is a lot for some people on the whole bill. read more

As someone who is a pizza snob and has lived in Italy several times, I can say this is the best Neapolitan style pizza in Austin. 3 of our pizzas (mi scusi, coppa cabana and uncle frankie) were excellent. They are pricey, but I thought it was worth it. Items that didn't land: Unfortunately the GF pizza wasn't good, and I think it was undercooked (it didn't have the same coloring as other pizzas). We also got a special called "grilled sardines" that was canned and almost $40. It was more of an appetizer than anything and the freshly baked bread was the best part. I actually really appreciate the hospitality charge but the service was clunky and this is primarily what knocked off 2 stars. Primary service issues included 1) staff not knowing the specials well enough to help track allergens and 2) a weird workflow where you don't have the same server so it took 10+ minutes to get a kid's milk that was missed at the cash register. I think this place could be great, just has a couple kinks to work out! I would probably come back for happy hour and leave the kiddo at home for lower stakes. read more

The prices are ambitious to begin with, but hey, it's 2024 and everything feels too expensive. Hence, I don't have any qualms with a restaurant adding a 20% gratuity for dining in. I never tip below 20% for dine-in service anyway. However, for the restaurant to add a 20% gratuity for to-go orders is a bit rich. I ordered a pizza online, and therefore didn't engage with a human being. I walked into the store, I told the employee that I was there to pick up a pizza and told them my name, and the employee picked up the pizza box and handed it to me. Since the food costs cover the ingredients and the back-of-the-house labor to make the pizza and put it in a box, I paid $4.40 for someone to pass a box from one side of the counter to the other. I work literally 100 feet away from Bambino and I'd been excited for another lunch option, but I doubt I'll be back anytime soon since the pizza was merely good, not great, and the whole thing set me back $28.22. FWIW, I've spent a lot of my life working in food service; I've lived off tips myself, I know that grind, and yet I'm embarrassed for Bambino. The 20% service fee on to-go orders, compulsory regardless of how large or small a service is performed, feels more like an undisciplined GoFundMe donation than an exchange of money for services. I grasp the arguments for why the restaurant has made this decision, and simply don't find management's reasoning persuasive. I guess the market will decide, and if enough patrons don't mind paying 20% of their pre-tax total for someone to hand over a box, good for Bambino. read more

Settled right on Springdale Road in East Austin, Bambino is offering a charming, elevated casual take on delicious pizza. With a flavorful and creative menu, it was hard to decide what to indulge upon! The employees greeted us warmly, and when we prompted them with recommendation requests, they happily obliged and steered us in the right direction. To start, we got the beets and brittle. This dish was delicious. Packed with a bright citrus note from the orange, it paired delightfully with the soft beets, and the pistachio crumbles on top was an incredibly unique surprise which elevated the dish to new levels. For pizza, we went with the Joe Mars and the Little Stinker. The Joe Mars had not one, but TWO types of pepperoni! However, the star of this dish was the ricotta cheese that was squirted on to the pizza like little dollops of heaven. The ricotta brought a creamy, flavorful punch to the pizza which paired nicely with the basil garnishes and drizzle of hot honey. The little stinker was anything but a stinker. It was a beautiful light and savory pizza perfect for the summertime. The mushrooms were the star of this pizza, delivering a unique taste that paired well with the three kinds of cheese sprinkled onto the pizza. read more

Literally made an account to review this place. You walk in and pay at the counter and you're hit with a 20% service fee right off the bat before you even get a chance to try the food or sit down. They say this is so they can pay their employees fairly, when I asked one of the employees about it they admitted they were struggling to get 20 hours a week even though they were hired as full time. The prices are insanely high for what you're getting. I've seen other reviews saying the same thing and the owner always says come back during happy hour. I ordered one pizza, a soda, and a small salad. After the mandatory 20% my bill was over fifty dollars. I couldn't imagine bringing my whole family here. The pizza is okay at best but nothing to get excited about. The specialty pizzas are overly complicated and full of ingredients that come off as pompous and unnecessary. We were excited to try this place, especially with some of the press we read. (Felt like some of this press was exaggerated or not accurate - said 80s theme, but the 80s hip hop music was about all that we really saw beside maybe a few minor things like light covers??) The Bad: Food prices are high AND they charge a mandatory 20% for COUNTER SERVICE. I may have tipped 20%, but being forced seems excessive for this dinning situation. (Now the owner/manager will reply with something about paying fair wages and offering benefits - but that is the responsibility of the employer, not the customer. Either raise your prices to illustrate the true price or do what the rest of businesses do and pay wages and benefits that reflect your values as a business. They don't add them in to the menu price - even though they will add it on regardless - as a way to hide the price you will be charged. If the pizza is $29, just put that not $24 with a 20% increase at the end). The Mid: Food quality and selection was limited. 13" pizza is the smallest, so if you each want your own personal - no option for that really. Also each pizza has 2-3" of crust coming in and very minimal toppings. Not the bottom of flavor, but disproportionate to the cost. Parking could be a nightmare and it's a little hard to determine where to go your first time from Yelp. The Good: Seems to be heavily over staffed. So after the first wait for beer pitcher to be served(which they apologized for), someone checked on us every 5 mins. The garlic cheese bread was great and I would order just this next time and add cupping pepperoni if they allow it. Pitcher of beer was a good size made it about 6.50ish a pint. Overall, not bad - just not what was expected. Bring your wallet and a friend who you can share the exact same thing with, and come when they aren't doing construction on the patio. read more

The pizza here was really great. My husband even ate the crust, which he rarely does. My issue is the included 20% gratuity. Other than the pizzas being brought to our table, we really had no service. We went to the counter and ordered our food. We went and refilled our own drinks. We re-ordered drinks through the QR code on the table number. I have no problem paying an included gratuity at all when the service is there, but I feel like we really did not get true waiter service here. It was like if Starbucks charges an additional 20%. There were also tons of flies, which is unappetizing, and it does sound like it has been a problem they have yet to remedy. Came here on a Sunday evening for dinner, and we will happily return soon! The inside was really pretty but we sat outside on the large covered patio since the weather was nice. Our server was really patient and friendly as we waited for our friends to arrive. Mozzarella sticks were definitely in my top 5 of mozzarella sticks, and I loved the cacio e pepe ranch dressing. Should have dipped my pizza crust in it but didn't think about it! The beet appetizer had a great balance - highly recommend. We had a Rosso pizza with anchovies and Gouda pizza, both excellent. The kitchen accidentally burned the first Gouda pizza so they came out to apologize for the delay (and only served us the proper one), which was much appreciated. Ingredients were fresh, well-balanced. Solid drink menu. We were too stuffed for dessert, so I'm not sure what they offer. We will be back soon! read more
