I've eaten here a few times before, but realized I have never done a review. This is one of a friend and I's go-to places. It's a great spot, has good parking in the parking lot. Quality is fresh and prices are fair. It's tucked away in a complex at the very end and you could miss it easily, If you don't know it's there. I feel like it's a hidden gem! This time we ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Crunch Roll off the Special Rolls menu, and then opted for Shrimp Tempura Roll as well. The rolls are always delicious, my favorite of the three being the crunch roll. Something about that crunch is just so satisfying! The menu is extensive and they have pictures for the rolls which is great so that you can see what you're getting. There's so many that I want to try. I'll just have to keep going back! The fish was super fresh -- you can really taste the quality in every bite. The Fqncy roll basically melted in my mouth, and the South San Jose roll had the perfect balance of heat and flavor (not too overpowering). Rice was on point too -- soft, slightly warm, and seasoned just right, which honestly makes a huge difference. I have been coming here for about 9 years now. It's the closest sushi spot to home, and has become my family's go to spot for quite some time now. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar, and any of the tables/ booths near the bar due to the awkward layout of the restaurant. HOWEVER, if you're wanting less attention or just wanting more privacy, they do have a side room closer to the entrance :) Over the years, the waiting staff has changed but the sushi chefs have been the same - I believe they're the owners and they're incredibly kind! Though there are plenty of other sushi options, at least in South SJ, I feel like sushi boat town is pretty decent and really gives off the nostalgic 2010 vibes of a sushi restaurant. OKAY THE FOOD: * Though there are times when the sushi bar is limited in choices, you are able to request a "sushi bar" portion of a roll. There's different price points per dish from the sushi boat bar, but honestly I feel like it's a great way to try different types of rolls, as well as small appetizers. * Jinie's lamp: Imagine the Lion King Roll's cousin who's made from Eel rather than Salmon. This is probably my most favorite roll from here, and over the years it has never changed and still tastes amazing. *Teriyaki dinners: My siblings LOVE their teriyaki chicken and beef dinners. The sushi was great. It has a boat for self serve so just go in, sit down and eat. Really, i get it you pay for the speed and availability. No need to wait and if you want sushi now, this is the spot. The inside was nice ans spacious as well. The only con is the price. Most of the nice looking rolls were the expensive Plates ($9.50 or $10.50) which came with about 3-4 rolls. I ate about 5 plates of what i wanted and a coke; total was about $50. Im not sure if that price justifys it. But all together, it was great. Might go again if im in a rush or no where else is available. Staff was very friendly and helpful read more

Came and sat at the bar, no wait and the waitress was attentive. The place is clean and there is plenty of seating. Food was mediocre - was a little concerned about how long some of the sushi had been on the boats so played it safe. The boats were pretty empty and what was on there didn't look super fresh. It tasted fine, but not great. For the price, it's a tough sell. However, my kid really enjoyed the kids chicken teriyaki which was a large portion of food. read more

3.4 stars! Came on a weekday dinner about 1.5 hours before closing and the spot nearly empty. However, the place is reminiscent of a nostalgic Japanese resto with plenty of seats. Definitely needs some updating, but they did have a sushi boat bar area! Prices were high and the sushi that were on the belt were few. Food itself was tasty and fresh (surprisingly). Absolutely love our neighborhood sushi place! The menu has a wide variety of options. My go to for appetizers are always the edamame and veggie Tempura. For the sushi you really can't miss and generally go for whatever I'm in the mood for that day. Sashimi is always fresh and the chicken teriyaki is a go to for my picky eater. My daughter's favorite SJ sushi boat restaurant has closed, so we went out of our way to come here. Quality/Quantity - Two Piece Tamago Sushi, Egg Sushi - Good, made fresh for my daughter. Two Pieces Inari Nigiri - My daughter couldn't wait for me to take my picture, so I got a quick picture before her last bite. One of her favorites sushi, but for $8.50... CA Roll - From the sushi boat. It was just okay. Not good or bad. Typically CA rolls are pre-made in the back kitchen with these types of businesses, so the freshness is not 100%. Crunch Roll - From the sushi boat, it looks better than it tasted. Again, not good or bad. This is how they "get" you, while you wait for your special order sushi, you grab a few places off the boats... Eight Pieces Unlimited K.O. Roll - Our first special roll and we were wowed! Much more onions than I expected, but that is okay as I like onions and was NOT on a date, LOL. Eight Pieces Go Warriors Roll; in action. - Another hit! And sitting at the sushi boat we got to see the "show" of them making our rolls fresh in front of us. Eight Pieces San Jose Fire Roll - We were full by this time, but still had to try this roll, especially after the waitress suggested it. Set on Fire, call 911. Fire burned for like 10 minutes, perfect if this was a winter night, LOL. My daughter said she needed marshmallows. Specials advertised, but they were the same as on the menu. Happy Hour is also available. Atmosphere - Good size restaurant. Small lobby for waiting. One of the few sushi boat restaurants left in SJ, or anywhere... Clean bathrooms. Semi private rooms. Open 7 days a week from 11am or noon to 9pm or 9:30pm. Service - Good, especially the two guys working the sushi boat. Such hard workers and still being able to take care of the customers on the tables and boat. Make sure you take care of the people that take care of you! Price - Sushi boat plates start at $4.25 to $10.95. See menu for all other prices. Our dinner came out to $105 + tip. First off, DO NOT sit on the side room in the restaurant. It's the first room on the right when you walk into the restaurant. Usually the service is quick, but being isolated in the side room made everything slow. Other than that, the food is really good. I love the value in their bento boxes and their baked rolls are also very good. The inside of the restaurant is modern and clean and they also have a fully functional sushi boat bar. There's definitely some Korean influence with the ownership since there are a good amount of Korean food items on the menu as well. Overall, this is a good local sushi restaurant and it's definitely worth a try. Ramen: Their ramen is just what it is. The flavors are not really anything special. The soup is a bit bland, but it comes with everything that would come in a typical Tonkatsu Ramen bowl. Bento Box: I love the variety of bento boxes they have. You can basically mix and match for anything you want in the bento box. I recommend getting the chicken teriyaki with the California rolls. The chicken is so tender and the California rolls are so delicious. Paradise Roll: I love the mix of tuna and eel on this roll. Each piece is a flavor explosion in your mouth. Terrible music playing loud over the table. the tempura had lots of residual oil and the dipping sauce was way too sweet. The rice was cooked perfectly but the salad had watery dressing in our bento. Sashimi was passable. The portion was a bit light on the sashimi. Miso soup was par for the course. 3$ extra charge to get bento with sashimi + tempura. We sat at the bar with the revolving sushi plates. Food was generally exactly what you'd expect from the conveyor belt but I imagine it is way more fresh if ordering off the menu. There was no wait time when we arrived and the staff was nice and friendly. I'd probably say a little too attentive for my liking but nothing too crazy haha.
