This place is a hidden gem in the Lakeview area. Its always completely dead when I come in on any given weekday. Perhaps why the service is so fast! If you are a soup lover, you absolutely have to try their "3 Delicacies Soup" (for 2). I would suggest ordering it as your whole meal for yourself. The soup consists of fresh scallops, chicken, and shrimp, along with chinese vegetables, in a huge bowl of light chicken broth. It is honestly the bomb! If you are looking to dine in fun atmosphere. Ordered Delivery. Won-Ton soup was adequate. Orange chicken was soggy, lacked any flavor (essentially lightly flavored cornstarch sauce), chicken was overcooked. We ordered delivery on Grubhub.com and found the menu selection to be varied. Although the hour wait was a little excessive, we understood as it was the dinner rush on a Friday night. The food was excellent. I had the General Chow chicken and it was delicious. My partner had the veg fried rice, which he liked. The miso soup wasn't too salty and the crab rangoon was to par. This place is pretty amazing. I have driven from the NW suburbs just to eat here dozens of times. The food is fairly healthy, inexpensive, and has a positive unique flavor compared to most Chinese food restaurants. This place isn't questionable and oily like a lot of Chinatown places. The best Chinese I've had in Chicago, hands down! The ingredients are fresh, and everything is incredbily tasty for a great value. Don't be deceived by the empty dining room, because I think a lot of their business is takeout/delivery. Gladys is usually who waits on us, and she's the best. Be wary of the criticisms on here because I've been eating here at least once a week for a year and have never had a bad dining experience. I'm moving out of Chicago soon, and this is one of the handful of restaurants that I'm going to miss. read more

I really wanted the food to be outstanding as I've been searching for a new go-to Chinese place for some time. My favorite, Plenty in Lincoln Square, has limited hours and seem to be closed on random dates and times. I took the Yelp Concierge recommendation for Bamboo Garden. I was first impressed by the person who took the order. Her English was better than most, so the usual communication barrier that is usually experienced was not an issue. The food came sooner than they quoted, and the driver was nice enough. So far, so good. But the food - I ordered Mongolian Beef and Seasame Chicken. The beef was ok. Seemed overcooked and the and beef slices were on the small side. Taste wise, it was three stars at best. My issue was with the Seasame Chicken. The entire entree came in five HUGE chunks of overly breaded chicken. The sizes of the meat made me very nervous about how well or thoroughly cooked they were. Not recommended unless its late, nobody else is open and you have an affinity for low-quality meats. read more

Today was my first time trying Bamboo Garden and it wasn't what I expected. I ordered a beef fried rice and it looked like brown rice with specs of meat. The rice was soft there was nothing fried about the rice. I read the reviews on yelp before ordering and thought I would give it a try. I really wish I had stuck to my go-to delivery spot. I ordered the sesame chicken and for some reason it came swimming in a peanut sauce. PEANUT SAUCE! Why? Who would do that? I ordered the house special Lo-mein, this came with pad thai noodles and PEANUT SAUCE!?! What is with them and Peanut sauce. Why would you put it in lo mein and why would you put it on Sesame chicken?? The meat trio in the lo-mein was battered and deep fried before being tossed into their slimy peanut sauce. We got the appetizer sampler and I will say that their Egg Rolls are pretty good, however everything else was not. Their Fried Rice was overdone and mushy, and I just couldn't get over the fact that they put a Peanut Sauce on everything. It wasn't even a good peanut sauce. It was thick and greasy. So i wanted Chinese food and this was the FIRST TIME I was ordering take out in Lake-view. I looked at the reviews on Yelp, Grub-hub and Eat24. Finally decided on Bamboo Garden ( cuz I really wanted Shrimp Toast and Orange Chicken, And then I felt bad about the Orange Chicken and took a shot and ordered the Lemon Chicken (thought it would be healthier lol. I got to tell you the Chicken Pot Stickers, awesome. the Sesame Shrimp Toast, a little greasy and everything I was looking for and AWESOME reheated in the oven, the Crab Rangoon average or better but FREE, yay me!.................but the Lemon Chicken (Fried chicken pieces with broccoli in a freshly squeezed lemon and wine sauce) it was so very very good. it was every thing orange chicken could and wants to be but lighter with these HUGE pieces of moist chicken that reheat like you wouldn't believe ( and the are HUGE) this will definitely be my go to place from now on. I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan, and let me tell you... the celery was crunchy, the mushrooms were super juicy and flavorful, the carrots and mini corn were firm and fresh and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I signed up for Yelp for the sole purpose of warning others about this atrocious slop. This was the worst Mongolian beef I have ever tasted. It was heavily breaded, sickly sweet, and had not a hint of garlic or savory flavor. It tasted suspiciously like a lackluster rendition of sesame chicken. It had no spice or heat to it at all, which was weird because they asked if I wanted it spicy, to which I said yes. I ended up throwing away the dish and just eating the side of rice and fortune cookie. Not only unappealing but bearing no resemblance whatsoever to what passes for Mongolian beef at every other Chinese restaurant I have tried. We ordered Kung pao shrimp and garlic beef and broccoli. The Kung pao shrimp was not spicy at all and had barely any shrimp.
