    Humbow for the game
    Jessilyn C.

We ordered some humbow, almond cookies, and sesame balls to take to the ballpark to watch the angels vs Mariners. It's been our favorite for 21 years. We lived downtown next door to pike place market, and mee sum always hit the spot. Reminds me of the dim sum places in Chinatown San Francisco. It was my nieces first time in Seattle and wanted her to try all of puke place had to offer. Even though it's a 30 minute drive for us, I'll always pick up some fresh humbow and sesame balls from Mee Sum. Not that personable at the window, but who cares as long as we get our delicious dim sum.

I'm a huge Sesame Ball fan so when I saw a tray of Green Tea flavored ones I halted in my tracks. Luckily it was 6pm and no line so I immediately purchased and ate my treat! Dang good!! Hope to be back before I leave!

Food: Finally tried the popular baked pork bun here! I would say it's an 8/10. I loved the texture of the bread. it was soft, fluffy, and flavorful. there's a decent amount of pork and flavor filled inside as well! Service: I honestly thought they were pretty rude and were not very helpful. I asked one simple question and was snapped back at like she was annoyed and was rushing me. Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Pretty popular and easy to stop by as you're walking by on the streets! There's no inside of the store you can go into. You order outside at the front and your order will be given to you[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Pricey but worth it for some things. There is no inside, the line starts outside and the space itself is a small booth. Service was good, the line moved quick and everything was made fresh. Out of the food we tried the most worth it was the bbq pork steamed bun and the crab rangoon. Would come back for those.

Mee Sum Pastry was a great quick stop while exploring Seattle. I stopped by for a BBQ pork hom bow, and it ended up really hitting the spot. The bun was soft and fluffy, while the pork filling was flavorful, slightly sweet, and generously portioned. It's easy to see why this has become such a popular item and a staple for many visitors to Pike Place Market. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bakery itself is a no-frills, old-school stall that adds to its charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You walk up, order, and take it to go. If you're walking through Pike Place Market, Mee Sum is worth a stop.

Not really the Hong Kong Mee Sum I was thinking about. They have a section of pastry and a section of fruit tea (a long line for fruit tea). I got moon cakes to try but it failed to impress me. Literally stuffed with red bean paste with no other ingredients inside. Tasted one dimension with no texture. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a take out place. No chairs no tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are efficient to pump out the drinks tho.

This little store serves one of the best sweet-savory pineapple pastries I've ever tasted! I've stopped by 3 days in a row during my stay in Seattle. I've gotten the beef curry hom bow twice and the chicken hom bow once. They serve you a freshly baked warm pastry every time you order. The pineapple top is flaky and crispy and the inside is filled with a delicious savory center. The only downside is how steep the prices were compared to LA or the Bay Area! A small plate of siu mai costs twice as much as the ones you buy a dim sum restaurant. Definitely worth visiting if you're looking for a yummy quick bite though.

pork bun and matcha sesame ball

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE!! i tried their pork buns and matcha sesame ball. the pork was nicely tender and had a good flavor to it. the matcha sesame ball was delicious and my fav. the dough was good amount of greasy. it's filled with black sesame filling which was u expecting considering it being matcha, so it didn't really give matcha. but i love it and would absolutely recommend it!

We were in the area and decided to buy a couple pastries to try. Since we were in a very touristy area, the prices reflected that. I did enjoy my green tea sesame ball and winter melon pastry. They were fresh and made well. No complaints on the flavour and texture of the items.

    Vegetable hom bow

I went to Mee Sum in the late afternoon and was happy to see that their usual line was not very long. I ordered a Vegetable Hom Bow and a red bean sesame bun. It seems like they are known for their pork buns, but I'm pescatarian, so I was happy to see some veggie options. I really loved the red bean sesame bun. It was the perfect consistency with a crispy outside and doughy inside. The vegetable hom bow was not my favorite. The texture and the bread was nice but the flavor of the filling was a little too sweet for me and reminded me of ketchup. I'm sure this place is popular for their meat pastries, so maybe next time I'll try one with seafood.

Delicious pastry shop in Pike Place! Try their matcha sesame ball and pineapple bun as well! Fast service! 5/5 - Baked BBQ Pork Hombow - Well seasoned pork in a warm and soft bun! Filling and savory. An absolute must try if you visit this bakery!

I have a hilarious story about Mee Sum Pastry. I grabbed a BBQ pork hom bao to share with a friend, and while I was enjoying my half, a tiny bird swooped in like a ninja, snatched it right from my hands, and dropped it on the ground. Shockingly, that half bao met its end faster than I could have eaten it! My friend, feeling sympathetic, kindly offered me her half. The bao itself was tasty. I've had similar ones near home for a bit less, so the prices here are slightly higher than what I'd expect for Chinese pastries. But if the birds are anything to go by, they give it a solid 5 stars! The wait was a lot shorter than what social media shows, but it could also be a slow season for tourists.

    Char siew skewer
    Kirstin H.

This place is truly iconic - it's been around forever and remains a beloved institution at the market. I always make a point to stop by for some combination of the char siu skewer, baked hum bow, and sesame ball. They also offer classic Hong Kong and Taiwanese-style drinks, hot meals, a wide selection of Chinese pastries, and even have a dedicated boba shop right next door. Service is quick and casual, dim sum counter-style. You order at the counter, pay, and they assemble everything right in front of you for takeaway. It's efficient, no-frills, and exactly what you want in a market staple.

This was the best steamed Hum bao of my life! And the line was short and moved quickly, highly recommend if you are in Pike Place.

We ended up trying 5 different kind of oysters all sourced locally and they're all just spectacular! Creamy, umami and oh so fresh! Hammersly, Eld Inlet and Cliff point among others. BTW their roasted oysters are also really good - larger size, fresh and juicy not overcooked. Pro tip: The best part is during happy hour from 3-6pm (and also maybe during lunch hours?) they're only $2 each which is a steal! Other than the oysters we also had the smoked black cod which is out of this world and a MUST GET in my book. The seafood assortment called the Pearl Platter if I remember correctly - it is a good way to sample a little bit of everything. It has the smoked black cod, snow crabs, scallops aguachile, shrimps, and oysters. Service is always prompt and friendly. They have cozy indoor seating as well as a patio seating with nice view of the waterfront area. My favorite drink here is the dillenger which is smooth and balanced with a hint of dills. Can get busy at times so book ahead if possible. Located in the quieter section between Pike Place Market and Belltown. Highly recommended. 15 minutes walking from Pioneer Square area.
