This review is for the ice cream mochi. Bought 3 Mochi ice cream there. When we ordered they told us all the flavors we wanted were out. I knew it was a bad sign when I saw what they had in the freezer and should have followed my instinct to not buy them. But hindsight is 20/20. Anyways, They tasted like that they've been in the freezer for years such that the skin tasted like cardboard. If I wanted to eat cardboard I would not have paid 6 dollars for it. My friend have gotten me coffee from another Bambu and they're really good. I craved for it and headed to the Sunnyvale one. The first time i came, cashier system is down and the staffs seemed flustered. I was told cash only and exact if possible. I stood aside and tried to dig out some cash while the customer behind me went ahead. Only then the staff said she could give me change n opened up the cash register. Why didnt she said earlier? I ordered 2 cups of blended coffee but they came in two different color?! Minus 1 star for lack of consistency. Today i gave it another chance. The wait for this place is almost insufferable. I visited during a busy time on Saturday while the Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival was going on. I'm not sure how long I waited in line alone, but it felt like 10-20 minutes. I'm being nice at the lower end of 10 minutes. There were only 2 people working as far as I could tell, and I couldn't help but to think that if there was a 3rd person, my wait would have been reduced significantly. The person at the register had to stop taking orders occasionally to dish out the drinks that the other person made. It took about 9 minutes for me to get my drink after I ordered based on the time stamp of the receipt I was given at first and the time of completion receipt. The visit took around 20-30 minutes total. I probably could have left and gone to K-Tea instead, but I didn't know that existed until I walked around some more. However, K-Tea doesn't have as many drinks as this place does. I'm very glad that this place had working AC because the wait wasn't as intolerable from that. If it wasn't working, I probably would have left. The taste of the drink was not as sweet as I would have liked, since I like things on the sweeter side. I got a jasmine iced milk tea flavored with strawberry and had strawberry and passion fruit jellies. I think you could probably taste the tea based on the lack of sweetness. It did pass for strawberry. I liked the jellies, since the strawberry ones had a mix of rectangular prisms and hearts. The person at the register was very nice. She answered my question of if I could get a strawberry flavor with a jasmine milk tea because I wasn't sure based on the menu TV screen. I saw the blue asterisk once I got closer to the register, but I wasn't entirely sure of what that meant. She also clarified what it meant by the two free add-ons with the drink. Two stars are from how bad the wait was. It's not a one-star because the drink was okay and the staff were nice and polite as well as the fact that the AC was working. I do not recommend coming here if there are only two people working and it's busy. If there's more than two, you'll be alright. If it's not busy, you'll be okay too. Also, the macarons looked cute. I had been meaning to try che for a while. As nothing sounded better with the sunshine and afternoon snacking pangs yesterday afternoon than eating a cool sweet dessert sitting in the grass in the neighborhood park, I happily popped out of the house for a stroll to Bambu. My favorite ingredients are red bean and taro, but I can do without pearls, so the #3 Awesome Trio seemed almost customized for me. There were actually quite a few people in the store when I swung open the door, but the time waiting in line and for one's order is easily killed by ogling at the colorful mochi and ice cream sandwich goodies in the freezers. Within 10 minutes, I had a hefty and vibrant cup in hand. I dug in excitedly and my foodie soul smiled at the sweet mash-up of beans and root vegetables, all doused with cold refreshing coconut milk. Most importantly, the che was not too sweet. I did not know what to expect with pandan jelly, and it turns out that it's the bright green noodle jellies I observed customers slurping enthusiastically in the store. As I'm not huge on gooey, I appreciated the unique thinner jelly shape and chewiness. Che is a relatively pricey snack at $5 but it is almost like meal because the ingredients are so filling; I ate pretty much a half dinner to tide me over for the rest of the day. This chain recently moved into the ever growing downtown Sunnyvale market. They are definitely fulfilling a need in the area. We came in on a Saturday morning a week after they opened and the place was empty. They have the usual drinks found at Bambu - bubble tea, smoothie dessert drinks, che, as well as bottled drinks (sparking water, juice, etc.). I opted for the usual (almond milk tea with tapioca pearls) and was not disappointed (though it is a bit on the sweeter side). Friendly and fast service. Yum yum! The avocado smoothie with coconut milk was delicious! Apparently there's a bit of an avocado shortage so all the drinks with avocado here are temporarily $1 extra. It makes it a teensy bit more expensive compared to other places who are holding their prices constant. This is one of the worst boba places in Sunnyvale. The lady who took my order is so incompetent and rude. She kept leaving to go to the kitchen WHILE I was ordering! My entire family had to attempt to order about 8-10 times because she just kept walking away from us. I was also pretty shocked when she asked "Is that it?" instead of "Anything else?". Still one of my favorite boba places especially the taro drink. I like that they have gluten and dairy free alternatives as well as caffeine free alternatives. Those are hard to find many places only Bambi and Fantasia have actual good ones that meet those critter is that's worth the price. The only downside is that the drinks don't always consistently taste the same depending on which staff is there so you can say 300 % sweet one day and it could be perfect and on another day it's way too sweet. Yes, one piece of jackfruit, one piece of coconut, etcetera, but always plenty of jello.
