Malaysian milk tea - on the strong side but good

Nice flavors in the food. Like that they use sheets of paper for the table covers. They toss out and replace with each party. Service was pretty good.

Not sure about the low ratings but I thought this was a great place for dinner before a show at Levi's. If you're wanting something other than the same American fare at Levi's this place isn't too far. The sangria was really good. We also got the eggplant, pratha, mango shrimp and papaya salad. Everything was delicious and comes out fast! Def would come here again before a show!!

Wonderful Malaysian restaurant that serves everything family style so a great option for groups. They have a very extensive menu with tons of authentic Malaysian dishes. Everything was delicious and portioned to share for 3-6 people. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with very friendly and helpful staff. They get quite busy even on weekday evenings.

Great flavors overall with comforting Malaysian-inspired dishes Had a meal at Banana Leaf Restaurant and tried the roti prata, noodles, curry, and pandan panna cotta. The roti prata was definitely one of my favorites and perfect for dipping into the curry. The curry itself was rich, flavorful, and comforting without being overly heavy. The noodles were also satisfying with a nice balance of savory flavors and good texture. For dessert, I tried the pandan panna cotta. The presentation was nice, but personally it wasn't my favorite compared to the savory dishes. The pandan flavor was lighter than I expected, though it was still creamy and refreshing. Service was friendly and the food came out fairly quickly. The vibe is casual and lively, making it a great spot for sharing multiple dishes with friends or family. Overall, a really enjoyable meal with standout savory items I'd come back for the roti prata and curry again.

Everything was good. We made reservations for a party of 7. They had lots of large tables. Make sure you have a reservation as it does get packed here. The cumin tofu was my favorite, unique dish. So flavorful! It contained green beans that was nice and crunchy. Paired well with white rice:

I use to eat at Banana Leaf a lot back in the day when I use to live in San Jose. It's been awhile since I last ate there. We happen to be in the area and we were hungry. We decided to come back to Banana Leaf and check it out. We arrived to Banana Leaf on a Friday night for dinner. The Malaysian/Thai restaurant is located at the McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas. Plenty of parking is accessible in the large parking lot out front. The Malaysian modern decor still looked similar to when I was last there. It was a bustling and lively Friday night atmosphere. Plenty of tables were packed and the bar was half surrounded with patrons in their bar stools. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for our table. We ordered Roti Prata, Mango Chicken, Seafood Pad Thai, steam rice, a glass of Chardonnay, and a deep fried banana à la mode. Everything was delicious and authentic. Two of my old favorite dishes there, the Roti Prata and the Pad Thai were just as tasty like I last remembered. The sweet curry sauce and the fluffy Roti Prata went perfect together. Every bite is scrumptious. The Pad Thai were flavorful. Prawns and calamari in the Pad Thai were tender and plentiful. The Mango Chicken was rich and sweet. Finally the deep fried banana was delectable and went very well with the vanilla ice cream. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Banana Leaf. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The vibe was family friendly and welcoming. I am not sure when I will be back but it was nice to return for some nostalgia.

3.5/5 stars! Came here with a group of people to share family style so let's get into the foods I think is worth getting to share. Also I've noticed the spice levels here were pretty mild compared to other Thai/asian restaurants 8/10 pineapple fried rice; this was pretty good! We got the regular one and the spicy one, the spicy one wasn't that spicy, but the flavor profile was good overall 8/10 pad see ew, can't go wrong with this, had lots of veggies and a reasonable amount of protein ish, but I think this might have been my favorite dish out of all the ones I've tried 7.5/10 Satay Chicken, this was not bad, chicken was juicy and the sauce paired well with it, enjoyable skewer! 6/10 pad Thai, this was too sweet for my liking and the noodles were a bit overcooked, so they were a bit mushy 6/10 Black Pepper Chicken, never had this before but the black pepper sauce was a bit sticky for my liking, so didn't really eat too much of this 6/10 papaya salad, the papaya was cut too thick and long, the flavor and seasoning was lacking 6/10 mango black sticky rice, I will say the mango was juicy and sweet, I was just a little thrown off with the black rice, it wasn't sticky but it was more grainy

I've been searching for a good Malaysian Singaporean restaurant and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon Banana Leaf! This restaurant seems to be well-loved by the community for years, and it still seems that way as it was packed on a weekday dinner. The restaurant falls somewhere in the middle of casual and upscale. The portions here are huge and they have an extensive menu, so it's best to order family style. Huge plus for them having an extensive vegetarian menu as well! We ordered Roti Prata, Chicken Curry Laksa Mee, and Malay Sizzling Beef. Bold flavors! We mainly came here for the laksa, but we were impressed from everything we ordered. The roti was flakey and was nearly ordered at every table. The laksa had a rich and flavorful broth, though I wish it was spicier. The sizzling beef was peppery and delicious. Since the beef dish was saucy, we ordered rice on the side to balance its strong flavors. I'd come back and order these dishes again and definitely try other dishes!

Banana Leaf is well loved in the family as we've been coming here for years. Safe to say, the food is just as good as we remembered and it is still a bumping spot! It gets really busy especially for dinner, so plan ahead to get on the Yelp waitlist or call in, but note they sometimes will close the phone waitlist. RECS: + Roti prata ($5.25) is a must, so light and flakey with a delicious curry + Pineapple fried rice ($18.25) is so well seasoned, it's been my personal favorite since I was a kid! + Singaporean black pepper prawns ($20.95) are so rich in flavor from the sauce, with plump prawns + Hainan chicken with rice ($17.25) is poached to perfection, paired with wonderful sauces and turmeric rice + Belachan kang kung ($18.50) is delicious! + Mango sticky rice ($12) is our favorite dessert item here, all the right textures and flavors

We ordered takeout over the phone, and the staff were very helpful in answering our questions and making sure our order was ready on time. I ordered the Hainanese chicken, which came with soy sauce and turmeric rice. The chicken was tender, perfectly poached, and paired really well with the soy sauce. The turmeric rice was soft and well cooked, although I would have liked it to be a bit more fragrant. We also tried the nasi goreng, which was very flavorful with a slightly tomato-forward profile. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were especially delicious. To round out the meal, we ordered the Malaysian milk tea, which was spot on. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal, and it was good enough to make us want to come back and dine in next time.

Lunch with my mini me and my sister after a fun morning of mulberry picking in Brentwood. Although the posted opening time was 11:30, they actually opened closer to 11:45, so we decided to wait. A few other customers were arriving and waiting as well. We ordered two nasi lemak dishes and one seafood kwetiau goreng. The kwetiau came out first, and we assumed the nasi lemak would follow shortly, so we started eating. Even after we finished the kwetiau, we still had to wait a bit longer for the nasi lemak to arrive. That said, the food was delicious and full of flavor. The portions were on the smaller side, which felt pretty typical for an authentic Asian restaurant. The staff were attentive even though we were seated outside, which I appreciated. The restaurant itself has a very casual and family friendly atmosphere, and most of the customers seemed to be dining in groups with family. I especially enjoyed the kwetiau goreng and would definitely come back for that dish again.

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. I had a reservation, so got a seat in 10 minutes. Everything I had from here was flavorful. Beef banana leaf rice was my favorite item. It had beef rendang, sambal and peanuts which were all very flavorful. Singapore black pepper beef packed a ton of flavor as well. Roti murtabak another excellent item. I am sure other items in the menu will taste good too. I should return to try more stuff.

Perhaps it's because of the rush of orders and addition of items I assume are not usually on their menu, things were a bit chaotic. Multiple people ordered multiple dishes and the kitchen was getting some orders confused (eg calling out an order # multiple times even though that customer had been served already). I will only review the 3 dishes my family got. Perhaps the Nasi Padang combos are better here (I see this is most commonly reviewed and popular), but sadly, they had already ran out of the Ikan Masak Lemak thirty mins after opening. Nyonya Laksa (2/5) @ $18 -- The soup was too watery and there wasn't enough of a coconut taste to it. The chili helped a little once mixed in, but there was still something missing from the soup. Mee Rebus (3/5) @ $18 -- The sauce was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, the sauce was poured on top of the tempura shrimp so I had soggy tempura. A little nit: I had to stir the noodles to make sure all noodles were coated. Hainan Chicken Rice @ $17 -- I didn't try much of this but the rice was fragrant as expected and had that chicken essence taste. Ah, the ginger scallion sauce also tasted sour like it had gone bad. Also ordered a milk tea (strong and standard) and a milo (which came in a can, I thought this would be made in house but I was wrong). This store is a stall inside a larger food court, so seating is limited. There is a public bathroom. Service was nice -- they asked if we were eating there and served us. All plates/cutlery is disposable so it's easy to pack up if you don't finish there.

The crab was tender, coated in a rich, glossy chili sauce that perfectly balanced sweet, tangy, savory, and spicy flavors. It paired beautifully with a side of rice. I'm already drooling just thinking about it and would 100% order it again in a heartbeat! Char Kway Teow (10/10): Amazing stir fried noodles. The flat rice noodles had a smoky, slightly charred flavor and were tossed with savory Chinese sausage, tender shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, and garlic chives. The dish offered a satisfying blend of sweet, salty, and umami flavors. It was comforting, flavorful, and wonderfully satisfying without feeling too heavy or oily. Singaporean laksa (10/10): This dish was similar to a Vietnamese curry with a fragrant, coconut-rich broth that delivered a balance of savory, spicy, and subtly sweet flavors. Since it was my second time here (my first visit left the food tasting way too salty), I was hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it was pretty inconsistent all around. We ordered a generous spread for the table: Garlic bread, basket, 2 appetizers, Wings, Noodle soup, Papaya salad, Pad Thai, Pineapple fried rice The Food: It truly felt like a coin toss--about half the dishes were decent, while the other half were completely mid. The Pad Thai was a particular letdown, as the noodles were noticeably overcooked. We also tried the basil lime wings, but they really just tasted like plain salt and pepper wings with a few basil leaves tossed on top as a garnish. To top off the strange pacing, the "must-have" garlic bread basket actually came out dead last instead of as a starter. The service felt a bit awkward. At one point, a staff member came by to check on us while still visibly chewing food in her mouth. Ambience is average to slightly modern but well lit decor. Being a weekday night, I think they weren't expecting too many people but at the time we went they had a 12 person party just seated. This made overall service extremely slow. I understand stuff happens but it would have been nice if we had been told upon being seated that service would be a bit slow due to being understaffed. Beyond just slow service the tables were sticky (my wife used the hand sanitizer on the table and a paper tissue to clean the table) and we had to ask for water twice. All that said, the owner apologised profusely when I went to the counter to pay, so there was some redemption. And now the food: We couldn't order everything we were hoping to try given the long wait time, but here's my rating for what we did order: Malaysian Noodle Soup (3/5): when it arrived it was barely lukewarm, so it loses a star. I was thinking soup will be served piping hot. The taste however pretty good. There's a kick to the broth but a good balanced broth on the whole with hint of coconut and light noodles (I don't like a soup where all you can see is noodle), which worked well for me. The only other thing was whosoever was adding the lettuce did a terribly lazy job - massive piece of lettuce sitting at the bottom. Banh Mi sandwich (3/5) - I'm a sucker for Banh Mi. For those who follow me, you will have heard me mention Bi Cycle Banh Mi more than once and that is the standard by which I judge all Banh Mis. While this Banh Mi didn't get close to Bicycle's, it wasn't bad on the whole. My only feedback would be add fewer jalapeños as they completely overpowered the subtle tastes of the sauces. Pad Thai (3/5): pad Thai looked as it was supposed to but it was missing one of the veggies as described in the menu. Taste was a bit bland but a dash of lemon fixed it. Khow Suey (3.5/5) - my wife gives this a score of 3.5, which says a lot. Good amount of veggies but wished the broth was a bit thicker. But she liked the spice levels and felt it hit her palette just right. Overall, I'd like to come back when it's a little less crowded so we can truly get a taste of the variety thats offered. Let's see what the future holds...

I forgot…read morewho originally recommended this place to me, but I'm glad they did Their prices are super good and their food is consistently good. I get the jajangmyeon ($10.95 for a small) every time, mostly because the noodle texture is TOP TIER. The noodles are thick, chewy, and springy, and they pair really well with the jajang (black bean) sauce. There are also plenty of ingredients mixed into the sauce, although I find it a little salty sometimes. The tangsuyuk (sweet & sour pork, $15.95) is super crispy, and I really liked the tangy sauce with it. I personally prefer dipping the pieces in the sauce so they stay crispy, but you can also pour the sauce over if that's your preference! The restaurant can get pretty busy on weekend evenings, with waits usually around 10-30 minutes. There's plaza parking available nearby. Would definitely recommend if you like or want to try jajangmyeon!

Paik's Noodle has multiple locations around the Bay Area and it's about the same experience at…read moreevery location I've visited. I ordered Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong. The noodles for both dishes have a pleasantly chewy bounce to them. They are thick, satisfying, and cooked perfectly right. The Jajangmyeon's black bean sauce was savory with a touch of sweetness and contains peas, onions, and pork. The Jjamppong has a spicy seafood broth with squid, mussels, pork, and veggies. Every meal comes with pickled yellow radish on the side to help cut through the richness of the meal. Service is not what you come here for. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated and a part of that was because they skipped our name on the waitlist. They claimed they called it, but we were standing less than 15 feet away from the front door and never heard a thing. The music the restaurant was playing outside didn't help. Once sat inside, it is a turn-and-burn operation. Food is ordered, dropped off, payment is collected, and nothing more. Again, don't go here for the service, go for the noodles. The atmosphere is casual and bit cramped. It has a cafeteria-like feel inside and can get a little noisy. Parking can be tricky especially when busy since they share a small parking lot with neighboring businesses. Bottomline, Paik's Noodle is good for a quick and solid bite but that's about it.

This dish was bursting with flavors from the spices and herbs and the combination of chicken, squid, and pork intestine. It's a good blend of flavors. The beef noodle soup had the al dente noodle, but I was not that impressed with the broth. It tasted a little plain for my liking. My son and hubby enjoyed it a lot and almost finished the huge bowl. This was our first time at this restaurant. It was great to see how efficient the whole restaurant operated. It was busy throughout our visit. Non-stop walk-ins for dine-in and takeout customers. We were fortunate to be there just before 12nn to beat the line-ups. They say that they open at 12nn but they start letting patrons in way earlier. Would love to go back to try their other dishes.

My friend order stewed pork knuckles over rice , it also has minced pork , gravy & vegetables . We ordered the pork knuckles with vermicelli noodle soup that cost $2.00 extra than the rice plate . My friend ordered the pork knuckle over rice had a large portion of minced pork , and extra vegetables ,plus rice .
