Recently moved nearby so figured I'd give it a try. Menu is decently priced and they staff is very friendly. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, while the burger was great, I'm not a fan of string fries. I prefer regular cut fries. This is my only complaint. I will come back and try the breakfast.

Our most favorite weekend breakfast place. Great service and atmosphere. You still feel part of a family eating there. Food is always great and cooked right in front of you. Try it ! You will not be disappointed.

Doing a live review at the Band Box, my cozy neighborhood diner at South 10th and East 14th Street. Down the street from North Central College. Ordered the cheeseburger (pepper jack cheese) with a side of onion rings (in place of the usual fried onions) and chips). (8) counter stools, (1) 6-top, (2) 4-top tab, and (3) 2-top tables. As I said, it's a cozy place. Cheeseburger was a nice Angus beef patty, fresh lettuce, tomato and onion. I don't do pickles. Onion rings were fresh and nicely fried and crispy, not frozen. Waitress was very friendly and nice. Glad I finally tried the Band Box. It's a 4.5.

This is a real diner! Come for the food as well as the show as you watch the grillmaster at work. Sit at the counter to get the real experience of days gone by.

My son wanted breakfast and we were in the area. Band Box Diner is a small local restaurant. The service was standard. It was uncomfortable due to how cold it was. We packed up and left. Parking is a bit much to find but the building is easily accessible on the corner.

As seen in the mighty ducks movie, this place was delicious! It's exactly what you expect it to be, a delicious Minnesota staple. I had a breakfast sandwich with french toast as the bread. I'm sorry to compare it to McDonald's but it was like their McGriddle but about 1000x better, great breakfast place! Go check out my Instagram at goodeatsminneapolis!

We've been waiting for this place to reopen since we moved into the neighborhood. The perfect little greasy spoon with GREAT prices! Get there early for brunch, it feels up fast. And it can be pretty hot if you're sitting at the bar (immediately across from the grill). We appreciate the history and quaintness - it fits the neighborhood vibe well.

TOTALLY a fan! I'm legit driving down Park Avenue craving a blt... I pull over on 9th and Park and pull out my phone and Yelped "BLT's nearest me." Band Box was like the 3rd or 4th option and I wasn't aware they were open that late. I caught them during their last 30 minutes of being open. I skimmed the menu options to find my beloved BLT and saw it for $7... yep! #sevendollarholla (make it go viral lol) I called the number provided on Yelp and spoke with a pleasant young lady and asked if i could place an order for pickup? I got my favorite answer, "yes." Asked for a blt on wheat bread and let her know that I was literally around the corner and on my way. Parking this time of evening was easy... plenty of street parking. Walks in and find this cute little diner. I have driven by 1 Million times literally, have had take out 1x that an old bf, but have never gone in the diner. I've had gf's growing up who lived across the street.. I have just never entered. Ambiance: Such a cute place. There are about 8 tables (out of the 8 like 2 /3 four-seaters. There is also seats at the counter. The grill looked clean, for it to be closing time. Service: Pleasant and I enjoyed the dialogue and friendliness provided by the employees. Food: That BLT hit the SPOT! Only wish i had mayo on BOTH sides of my bread, but I one side was fine. It made my sandwhich pretty. LOL I'll be back!

Food was decent, it's a simple neighborhood joint. But the food came out so greasy it overtook everything else. Won't be back unfortunately

This place is a cash only place I think. Well, I've only paid cash when I come here for many many years there was a sign cash only. They might take credit cards now MAYBE I'm not sure but if they do they might charge you a kajillion dollars for the fees lol. Just pay in cash. Bring lots of cash cuz you're gonna want to try the double cheeseburger AND the famous Juicy Lucy. I don't ever get the juicy Lucy because it comes out to piping hot and I don't wanna wait 10 minutes to eat my food lol. Their french fries are just like McDonald's french fries but it taste a lot more fresh. It is so good. You're gonna want to get a full basket. Luckily, there were only two people ahead of us, and we waited about 6-10 minutes. If you visit during peak hours, I'd definitely expect a longer wait. The menu is refreshingly simple Jucy Lucys, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, fries, and not much else. I ordered the original Jucy Lucy with pickles and onions, and we shared a basket of fries. It was a true no frills experience, and I can appreciate the significance of keeping things simple. Matt's embraces that hometown diner feel: burgers wrapped in paper instead of plates, drinks served cold & bottled instead of over ice, cash only (there's an ATM inside with a $2 fee), and a nostalgic atmosphere that feels uniquely Minnesota. The staff deserves recognition. Our waitress was friendly and patient, and it was clear everyone, from the bartender to the cook, was working incredibly hard to keep things moving. Their teamwork definitely didn't go unnoticed. As for the burger, I personally didn't think it was the best Jucy Lucy I've had, but taste is subjective, and I completely understand why it's considered a Minnesota staple. More than anything, I'm glad I finally crossed Matt's off my Minnesota foodie bucket list. As a proud Minnesotan, it's one of those iconic spots that's worth experiencing at least once.

This makes the burger really chewy and you really can't taste the beef anymore like you used to when it was thicker. I would take this as it's not as good as it used to be. It is not as good as the original hype from the beginning. In conclusion, I do not think it's worth the $19. I rather get a cheesesteak for $16 at Tono's which comes with fresh not burnt fries rather than come back here and get a burger here. It's highly unlikely I will be back here. I honestly feel like the burgers have gone way WAY downhill. The fries here have gotten terrible so I stopped getting the fries a long time ago. They are not soft crisp like they used to be. They are too golden brown color, almost like burnt hard fries. I never like to eat down here. I normally would order the Parlour burger upstairs. The basement part which is Parlour has a weird smell like a locker room smell so that's why I don't like to eat down here.

It was efficient but far better than just a "fast food pickup" or traditional counter service restaurant. I also have to say-- efficiency was great. The line was long but was helped quick! PARKING: always hard in Linden Hill. Street parking in neighborhood nearby is the best. Plan for a 5 min walk. AMBIANCE: far better than a typical counter service restaurant but not quite a dine in restaurant feel. You get west coast mid century modern that feels cozy and hip. The band played from 3-5 which I admit I originally thought was weird. But quickly realized why. This place was created for three reasons: good food, vibes, and family fun. You look around the room and EVERYONE is having a great time. Someone's Grandpa and grandma are having a blast on the Dance floor, kids are laughing, and everyone eating and truly having a wonderful time. The food was SO SO SO good. My husband got the pastrami ribs and I wish I had taken a photo because HOT DAYUM they were fire. And the coolest part about this place is they don't accept tip. Instead there is a surcharge so all employees can have a livable wage and that's so appreciated and you can tell by the service. Everyone we encountered had a genuine smile on their face. For the owners- my husband and I weren't sure if we wanted children and have been going back and forth about it for so long... but being in a safe family environment where fun and good vibes and inclusivity is possible- it hit us like a ton of bricks. Seeing the size of the portions, we decided to split the Piri Piri Chopped Pork sandwich with Mac n cheese and beans as our sides. It was more than enough food. The sandwich was delicious. Tender pulled pork with a bit of spice on a fresh sesame seed bun. Loved the beans. A little bit of pork fat gave them a great flavor. Husband is the Mac n cheese fan and he loved that as well. My bite was super cheesy. Lots of local beers to choose from. I found a nice hoppy one to try. Love the names but I always forget them. Service was great. You order with a QR code. Food came out quickly. We did have a server visit our table to answer questions and bring us anything needed after our initial order. He was great with giving us some recommendations. The restaurant charges a flat 20% service fee (so no tipping). Parking was a bit of an adventure as there seemed to be a lot of apartment parking on the streets and the lot was pretty small but we found a spot a block-ish away. Great stop!
