We were visiting Sonoma from San Jose and by the time we arrived, we were super hungry. We found this place and the food just hit the spot. I have never found Thai food exceptional or bad. We went here dinner after our wine tasting due to some weird thai foods craving. I wasn't expecting much in term of the quality of foods since I am picky about thai foods. The foods were not bad. I ordered the typical pad thai and it was actually not bad. My friend got the tom yum soup and red curry and both were not bad. A pleasant surprise for me. When I saw the positive reviews and the menu, I was happy to find what looked to be a decent Thai food restaurant. However I was severely disappointed. The order was incorrect and my dish that I commonly order, Pad See Ew, was one of the lower quality ones I've tasted. There were some questionable bites and the meat had some weird textures from piece to piece. My wife's chicken satay was rubbery. She also ordered brown rice and received white rice. I hate leaving bad reviews. But I feel like I need to warn people. The saving grace for this place is that the food is decent. (Although the other Thai place in town is better..) but my family and I have been trying to order out during this whole covid 19 in an effort to support local businesses. This is the 3rd time in the last two months we've ordered from here. Every time has been really bad. The first time our food arrived 40 minutes late, (after a 45 minute original wait time) the driver had to call 3 times to find my house. I live on a main road. And all the food was upside down... and cold. And the order was wrong. The second time the order was messed up. This time they told us 35 minutes for pick up. My husband went there after 35 minutes.. now he's been waiting outside for an hour and a half. The babies need to go to bed and our family is starving. We can't order from here anymore. read more

Well I dint want to put any star for this poor racist restaurant! Atleast that's what we felt.. I came in my sister in law who was really hungry and wanted to get something hearty and I suggested her this place, well that's cause I love Thai food! But sucks that had such a bad experience and the old lady working here was so mean to us and least bothered to even give us a water refil.. well the people behind us ( who were Americans) were happily welcomed and was continuous taken care off while me and my baby who seemed to bothered this lady a lot waited for our food... well any how papaya salad was good but we were disappointed with the spicy salmon and I did the shrimp.. we had to send them back because it was too sweet and she didn't even acknowledge that! So we rushed to pay and she didn't even bothered to get out Check while she smiled at our neighbor table. The new location of 599 Thai, which moved to the Whole Foods shopping center from Broadway and changed its name. Same excellent food, even better with additional dishes added to the menu! Its three times the size, and decor is simple, clean and modern. Three of us shared wonderful Summer Rolls, tasty Green Papaya Salad, Eggplant with added shrimp and Beef Massaman. LIKE BEING IN THAILAND! The Chef/Owner is female, born in Thailand. She has such an excellent sense of quality, fresh ingredients, healthy alternatives and FLAVOR! This is an Outstanding Thai restaurant! It reminds me of my first trip to Thailand in 3/1978 when I discovered the wonders of this Cuisine. Excellent Thai is SO difficult to find, even in San Francisco. Bangkok 9 is the most authentic Thai food I have found outside of Thailand. What a blessing that they were moved from their former location on Broadway into this beautiful new space. You can just feel the cleanliness when you walk in the door. The wonderful Thai Beer "Singha" is a perfect accompaniment to this cuisine. Actually, when I made my first visit to Thailand, there was nothing at all safe to drink. So, I was told to have a Singha with my meals....never picked up a bug - did not become I'll at all. Magic! Love the Staff, especially Ken and Stephanie! read more

Formerly 599 Thai, the place just opened. New landlords at the old location necessitated the move. The new location is much nicer -- bigger kitchen, more room, more tables, and an inviting, softer, darker interior. It seems that all the old favorite dishes made the transition. And it remains our favorite Thai place in the county. Great noodle dishes and curries. A new appetizer is the Bangkok roll -- crispy fried roll with taro root (don't know what that is, really, but the rolls were good) served with lettuce, carrot, onion, whole cashews, glass noodles, and a dipping sauce. Yummy. Spring rolls are as good as ever. The sweet and sour is the best -- lots of fresh veggies and meat (or tofu) of choice in a broth. This is what I love about the sweet and sour is that it's not that clingy, sweet, orange goo that you so often find -- this is more of a broth. Soups are good, especially the shrimp wonton. Love the salads -- green papaya especially -- and the peanut sauce dressing. Prices are reasonable. We were there on their first Saturday night, and the place was packed. So, the place got rather noisy. Also, the service was a bit spotty. For a party of seven, some dishes came quickly and other diners had to wait. I hope this will be rectified. Perhaps the opening was a bit overwhelming. Another factor might be the lively take-out business they do. Regardless of that, the staff is very friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu. They make you feel welcome. Water is refilled, dirty dishes removed promptly. We're very glad that we didn't lose this little gem of a Thai restaurant. Looking forward to many more delicious meals here. read more

The most lackluster Thai food in recent memory. The green papaya salad -- a Thai classic -- consisted of about a tablespoon of shredded green papaya atop iceberg lettuce, with leather-skinned grape tomatoes on the side and a half-dozen peanut halves. They were obviously trying to save money by rationing the more expensive papaya, which is supposed to be the star ingredient. It was topped with what tasted like straight fish sauce. Awful. The chicken satay and pad thai were both pretty tasteless. I won't return. There used to be a good Thai restaurant on Broadway, but, alas, it's gone. read more

We actually don't go out to eat very often, as we have a huge garden that supplies us with almost too much produce, and we do love to experiment with various new cuisines right in our own kitchen. When we do feel like a relaxing night out, our very first choice is always Bangkok 9. We used to go there when their restaurant was postage stamp size ( interesting as it was right next to the post office) and spent Christmas Eve 2013 there with family enjoying the warm hospitality of the owner and staff. That genuine warmth and attention to detail has not only carried over to their new location but is magnified. Now we can reserve a table for a party of 8, and it does not take up the entire space. We love many of the dishes already mentioned by other reviewers, but especially like the crispy tofu with LOTS of their incredible peanut sauce. Hmmm I think I will go make a reservation for dinner there tonight. I would advise you do the same. read more

My mother, my nephew & I had dinner at Bangkok 9 tonight and were certainly pleased with both the food and the service. My mother loved her Pad Thai with crispy tofu, I really liked my barbecued chicken and my nephew was very pleased with his red curry. The satay chicken and cucumber salad appetizers were good as was the peanut sauce. We will definitely return when we can...good review so far! read more

We went on a vacation to SF and stopped by Sonoma for wine tasting. We were craving asian food especially after eating american and italian all week in SF. We came across this thai restaurant. We weren't expecting much since we live in LA and the thai food there is spectacular especially in thai town in hollywood. We were really surprised after we ordered because the dishes tasted like the authentic thai food we get in LA. The fried shrimp appetizer is a must try. We also really enjoyed the curry and spicy noodles. If you live in sonoma or are visiting this is the spot to try for good asian cuisine. We were delightfully surprised at the taste and quality. Something has changed here (and not for the better). Sorry to say this but maybe this will serve as a catalyst to get back to the good old days. They no longer serve "fresh rolls" but only have fried egg-roll type that are no better than frozen grocery store. Virtually inedible. The eggplant dish was a huge disappointment because the eggplant was under cooked. There's nothing worse in an eggplant dish than to have the star ingredient chewy and tough. Two pork dishes had slices of meat stuck together as if the pork had been earlier sliced, then frozen together, then cooked. So you get wads of pork stuck together. No sure what's happened here; hope things will change soon. read more

my first time and loved it. i visited Bangkok 9 when visiting a friend living in sonoma. we had a relaxing dinner with some great thai food. we tried the yammeunsen, thai beef soup (thai pho), thai fried rice, ground pork with basil and panang curry. that was for two of us and we managed to finish all the item but the panang. the service was great and the food was good. our server checked up on us periodically to see if we wanted to add any more items or drinks. the restaurant was clean and well organized. it is hard to find yammeunsen salad from the thai restaurants around where i live and was surprised to find it here in sonoma. next time i probably will pass on the panang. the coconut flavor was way too much, at least too strong for me. read more
