Tried Thai food here several times and I'm always impressed. Pad see eiw ( stir-fried noodle with sweet soy sauce) and Pad thai do taste like what you would get in Bangkok! YUMMY! I went here for an early dinner with my niece on June 17. It has been to darn hot for me to cook on the bar-b-q grill. We decided to give this place a shot after reading the Yelp reviews. I got the impression that maybe the Yelpers who reviewed this place are "locals" from the area (or perhaps work close to the area) or they haven't really tried super incredible Asian food. Oh, but I digress. Let's get down to the review now. I ordered the chicken and pineapple fried rice for $8 (was worth maybe $6). They also have another location in Park Ridge, IL. My niece ordered three different sushi dishes. She said they were very, very good. I cannot rate the sushi because I didn't have any, and I was not offered any to "taste." Her sushi was brought out within five minutes. On the other hand, my food did not arrive at the same time. My niece was half-way through with her sushi by the time my food arrived. Not cool. My food tasted like it had been cooked in burned stale oil. It had a nasty burned taste to it which I couldn't stomach. I was starting to feel sick, so I stopped eating. It had a very bad taste and it left a horrible after-taste. Awful. Quantity over quality drives this restaurant. I don't think they will be around for more than one or two more years -- if they are lucky. Our Server came over twice because she must have noticed that I wasn't eating my dinner. She asked, "Is everything okay?" How do you answer that question without offending her. Maybe I should have said it tasted like burned oil, but I didn't want to be rude since our Server was very sweet. I smiled. I asked for a "to go" box. My niece told her I didn't like my food because it had a funny taste. She said, "Oh, it's probably the curry -- I don't like curry -- maybe it was the curry." Again, I smiled. I didn't say a word. Believe me, it was NOT the curry!!! Then, I thought maybe she will not charge me for it, because I only took three forkfuls of rice. I barely touched the food and she obviously noticed. Well, I got nailed for the entire amount (even though I barely touched it). I took it home and gave it to my husband who will eat anything. Really. He has a cast-iron stomach. I wondered if she would have charged me the full amount if I told her I didn't want to take it home with me. Whatever (with sarcasm)! The restaurant has lime green walls, with a long wooden bench against the wall. It has nine tables for parties of two or four. The aesthetics are worthy of two stars. It is the kind of place where you eat fast, because you want to get the hell out of there. I noticed they still have some Christmas decorations up (green garland), and three large gold stars in the window. They are probably the same people who leave up their Christmas lights year-round -- never take them down. The glass windows are large, but it was dark and dingy inside the restaurant (even though it was a sunny, bright day). The light fixtures consist of off-white squared-shaped paper lanterns hanging above several tables. I was really, really disappointed with what I ordered. Thus, I rate it with ONE star. My final rating is TWO stars, because we had no issues parking in this area and found a legal spot in front of the restaurant. However, service is worthy of THREE stars. Would I come back here again? Did I like the food? I am sure you can guess the answers to these questions! (with sarcasm) BTW, my niece liked the sushi that she ordered. She had three different kinds of sushi and it was $20 (excluding tip). I thought it was a bit pricey. Come on! This is not the Butterfly Sushi restaurant. I wouldn't know what her sushi tasted like, because she never offered any to me. Yeah, whatever. Also, I didn't bother to ask her "can I have some of your sushi" even though my tummy was roaring and growling with hunger. My evening ended with me going to Mariano's and purchasing dinner for myself. It was spicy salmon sushi which was made fresh and before my eyes. You cannot beat the sushi at Mariano's -- really, really fresh and quality ingredients are used in every roll. This restaurant is located in an odd location -- right next door to the State Farm Insurance Co. This is not a very exciting area of the city. Nothing. Dead. Boring. Rating this joint with four or five stars is like rating a New York City rat (the size of a freakin' cat) with four or five stars. read more

I've ordered from Bangkok Belly a handful of times, and overall I can say that I've enjoyed the food that I've ordered. I usually get the "Big Pad Thai" alongside an order of "Gyoza" appetizer, and the two dishes have been great every single time! The Big Pad Thai is a very large dish which I can never finish, so I leave it for leftovers the next day. It is always very flavorful, has real peanut crumbles over it, and has a sweet flavorful tang to it, which I enjoy very much. The Gyoza are always cooked nicely on a bed of fresh spinach leaves, and also comes with a wonderful "sweet black sauce"! That sweet black sauce has to be my favorite dipping sauce that I've ever had with Gyoza, and it keeps me coming back for more. Furthermore, I ordered some sushi once and thought that it was just "okay" - nothing super special, so I'll stick with my usual favored dishes. As a whole, Bangkok Belly has good food for a reasonable price, and I'd recommend to try their main dishes and appetizers, but I was personally not a fan of the sushi the one time that I ordered it. read more

This was the first time we ordered here and delivery took an hour and forty -five minutes. They were thirty minutes over the "high" estimated delivery time. I could have gotten over that on a Friday night, but when we opened the bag, half of our soup entree was pooled at the bottom of the bag. Also, all of the food was cold. The worst part was that the food was mediocre. I called regarding the soup and the cold food. They did offer to send a new soup out for delivery or credit us for a new soup next time, but who needs more cold soup? She explained that the food is cold because they are very busy. Want to start out by saying how rude the waitress was when we walked in. My girlfriend and I just ordered, waited 10 minutes for what looked like was made since lunch. Had a couple orders from here. I love the curry flavors in the pineapple fried rice, the pad thai isnt as good as Elephant but most of the items that I've had were good. Its another choice when Elephant Thai or Siam Treasure are closed. Choose order by phone as an option vs online ordering. read more

Tried it, it's ok. The Gyoza (fried dumplings) were very good. The San Fran Roll was very good made fresh but a bit shaken in the journey. The Pad Thai was ok. A bit disappointed as the beef was dry and tasteless. I dunked the beef in the dipping sauce from the Gyoza. read more

I recently discovered this place after moving to the neighborhood months ago, and I was thrilled! My old neighborhood was flooded with sushi places and I was constantly craving it with no place to go. After finding Bangkok Belly on Yelp, I immediately had to try it, and was happy to find that it was as good as the reviews said it was. The ambiance isn't the greatest, it's a tiny place without much decor, but the food definitely makes up for that. I haven't tried their Thai food yet, but plan on it very soon! Placing the order online for pickup was effortless. Nicely packaged to bring home. I had Tom Kha soup and it was far from what I have had at other restaurants. The aromas of ginger and lime leaves were missing and for some reason it was way too sweet. I also ordered the fresh spring rolls and they tasted like nothing (no basil), the sauce was a corn starchy concoction that smelled like a cleaning product. The cucumber salad was different it was cut into wedges and didn't have a chance to absorb the juices which again was super sweet. i wanted to go out of my comfort zone this time, so i ordered Bangkok Belly roll. i was glad i did because it was amazingly delicious. the presentation was so good that i forgot to take a photo but dived in. a combination of shrimp tempura, avocado, japanese rice cracker, and spicy mayo sauce just makes each bite perfect. just so you know, i also ordered my usual Sashimi roll and it's nothing but delicious as usual. yet another great dinner at Bangkok Belly! read more

Just wanted to write an update as its been a while since I wrote my original review. Bangkok belly continues to be our once a week go to for nearby sushi thats not super pricey. Our absolute staple order is : Godzilla roll, Ocean fire Roll, and Edamame. Our favorite appetizer is the crab rangoon. We usually order takeout and save this for dessert at the end. I have NO complaints about this restaurant. Clean, attractive and great food - what more can you ask for? I had the basil chicken and it was a large portion and had great flavor and very crisp fresh veggies. My mom (never had Thai before) tried the Pad Thai and I was really impressed - not at all bland, which I think is typical for pad thai, and it had large pieces of chicken instead of those weird 'grated' looking chicken bits I usually see in that dish. My sis in law had the veggie panang curry and said it was outstanding. Finished it off w/ Thai iced coffee that was DELICIOUS. So disappointed.. Been getting delivery from this place for 2 years. Today I decided to pick up dinner for my wife and I. I ordered the shashimi D platter. Usually comes with 15 pieces of raw fish. It's excellent until today. Well I notice 4 pieces of fish in my order that are not shashimi. It's was four pieces of Imitation crab!!! I've had shashimi all over CHICAGO and the Midwest. My order was simple enough, Ginger Chicken and Thai Iced Tea. The dish was fresh and cooked properly. The portion of chicken and ginger was minuscule. Overall the dish was pretty bland, it needed more ginger. There were no condiments on the table (soy, pepper etc.) to add any spice to the offering. The presentation of the dish was nice, but the plate had two decent sized chips. As far as ambience goes, the mumbling rap music was a non starter and doesn't lend authenticity to the Thai dining experience. read more
