I can only give one star, but it really deserves zero. My eggrolls were burnt, and my chicken tasted like and looked like it was fried and two day old oil. Friend chicken should be brown, mine was near black. even the sweet-and-sour sauce for the egg rolls wasn't good... Worst thing was the coconut soup. Unkept restaurant, it has a foul odor when you enter. The shrimp in my Mexican Roll was undercooked, almost raw and I asked the server to have it redone and that I was nervous of getting sick. He took it to the kitchen and MICROWAVED the sushi roll, brought it back and placed it in from of me with steaming rice, hot, mushy avocado and hot seaweed. Not to mention the shrimp didn't look more cooked it just all became hot and soggy. I asked if he could have it remade and he hesitated so I simply asked for my bill and called it a loss. Very disappointed. We noticed that there was only one other table being served at 6PM and we soon found out why. I'll have to say that the service was good. I regretted ordering the sushi after it came out. I hope I don't regret it later tonight. The tuna just did not look appetizing and didn't look like any tuna I've ever received. I'll start off that this is my first review and I kept forgetting to take pics of the food, so some are missing or partially eaten... My family went here last night for the 3rd time, and enjoyed our meal! This is a nice, family-owned business that has a variety of Asian dishes (Thai, Chinese, Japanese, sushi, etc). It's tucked away in the corner of the shopping center so I'm hoping this review can better provide them some visibility. The restaurant has a sushi bar and several tables, and it is quiet inside. We got 2 orders of their crab rangoon...definitely the best we have found in the Sarasota-Bradenton area in the 13 years we've lived here! We also ordered shrimp tempura and egg drop soup for starters. For our meals, we got General Tso's chicken (the best ever, super crispy and flavorful), 2 sushi rolls (spicy crunch tuna and Bubba), and a kid's chicken lo mein. This happened twice to me, hence two stars, They really deserve one , but I'll be generous. I had a bad experience here a few years ago, feeling rushed and rude service. ( Even though we arrived an hour before closing) For the past two days I have been calling around 130 to order take out. Their website and Google , Yelp listings all say they are open for lunch until 3. I kept calling and calling , no one picks up the phone. Today , I decide to just go in person to order and let them know they are losing business by not answering the phones. Get there before 2pm and the doors are locked. No sign saying closed early, nothing. Just the regular business hour sign. They need to update their website. Google Listing and other business related pages if they are not going to be open the normal business hours as stated. I wound up calling Rice Bowl in the same shopping center and they answered politely by the 2nd ring. I ordered a sesame chicken rice bowl and was ready in 10 minutes. It was hot , delicious and fresh. And service was very friendly. Too many other Thai and Asian restaurants out there to bother coming back to a restaurant that doesnt care about serving customers. Bangkok Tokyo is located in the corner of the Bealls shopping center near I-75 on SR70. This tiny gem is beautifully decorated in traditional Thai aesthetic, and the food is mainly Thai. Their menu is quite large and is divided into sections for Appetizers, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese selections. With offer so many different styles of cuisine, there are going to be some problems. Their lunch specials come with soup of your choice and jasmine rice and run about $7.95. You can choose from the different Thai curries or noodles and if you want meat, seafood, or tofu. Thai dinners run about $10.95-13.95. Chinese American fare offered are the classic fried rices, lo mein, and deep fried chicken chunks etc. Their selection of Japanese food is quite impressive and they offer Bento Boxes for around $12.95, which include a large amount of food. Such as ginger salad, dumplings, rice, stir fry, and veggies. The sushi is consistent and of very good quality at average sushi price. Please keep in mind that this is a Thai restaurant, so if you dare to order sushi--- then that is your own fault and don't expect too much. My advice is don't order sushi from a Thai place, especially not raw fish. They have a special sushi menu with the more expensive mayo covered stuff that I usually order from. My favorite is the special roll that is covered in real (not the fake stuff) blue crab and spicy mayo for $12.95. They also have a roll with lobster for around the same price. I was not happy with my last experience here. I ordered the crab soup, which was an over wonton soup broth in a small bowl with only two tiny bits of disgusting meat on it. The meat looked like it had mold growing on it or something, with brown strings coming off of it. *shivers* The Squid Salad was also nasty, since the squid was super chewy and did not taste fresh. It was not even marinated or frilled, just seemed microwaved. I could only eat two bites of it. There are many Thai restaurants to choose from in Bradenton, and each has their own good items that they are known for. Bangkok Tokyo's best item is their Pad Thai noodles--- I crave their Pad Thai because the flavor is so pungent and it is excellent with beef. This was me and my fiancés first time going here. We ordered the Miso soup and steamed dumplings as our appetizers. The Miso soup that was brought out had a foul taste and smell.. and looked like the broth had settled and separated. We took one sip and pushed it away. Our server came and took it all nonchalant and asked if we wanted salad instead, which made us feel like he knew the condition of the soup and yet he still served it to us. The whole rest of the meal we felt really uneasy because of this. Before we received our dumplings, we heard a microwave being used. When we received them, we could tell it was microwaved. Very disappointing. We ordered the $80 sushi boat which was okay but could've been better. Throughout the dinner we heard the microwave being used a lot. I was really hoping this could be a go-to restaurant because of the good reviews we saw for the sushi, but unfortunately we will not be returning. We ordered our food to go on a phone call and their was a child crying when we called so i bet the person could barely hear us. We got our food on time, but it was not what we ordered. Over the past two years I have had a combination of hit or miss experiences here when it comes to both the service and the food. It seems we either get great food and mediocre service or great service and mediocre food. This past visit was mostly great food and friendly service that was not attentive and absent for periods of time that were too long. My sushi roll was was the only questionable dish. It was wrapped so sloppy and the peices were not uniform or the same size and it easily crumbled when picking up with chop sticks. I seriously Think that my novice self could have rolled them with more precision. All ingredients including the raw fish were fresh and tasty.... I just have high expectations of the preparation of sushi rolls and this one fell short. The other disappointing factor was the cold saki. It was barely below room temperature and that definitely effected the taste. All negative factors asside on our recent visit, we will be back and just cross our fingers for that five start experience in the future! read more

Our first experience with this restaurant, open since at least 2018. Due to Covid19, we ordered take-away. Shrimp tempura with a salad and egg-fried rice together with tempura vegetables. They got the order wrong; gave us jasmine rice instead of egg fried rice. The side salad was so paltry, we had to add our own greens. Tempura should be characterized by a light, THIN, flavorful coating, cooked using a LIGHT oil, and the product should be non-greasy. This tempura was none of those things. The coating served by this restaurant was VERY thick and under a little pressure oil oozed out. The oil had a greasy taste and texture. Now a word about the order content. For $17+ one would expect to find a few shrimp in one's shrimp tempura and we did...very few. Each of our orders contained exactly 2 pretty scrawney shrimp. This place is obviously under new management, and customer service is not high on their list. I ordered sweet & sour chicken with a side if plain fried rice with no vegetables, as I have done in the past. They brought out the food very quickly, which is a sign to me that it was probably heated up and not freshly cooked. The fried rice was pre-made and contained onions. When I asked for a fresh bowl of fried rice as I ordered, I was told no. The waitress went to verify with the manager, and she also said no, they will not provide it for me. Horrible service and mediocre food. I ordered through the Bite Squad app but couldn't see all my options, so I called. I asked them to place the order I gave him over the phone to the delivery person. The order came and it was wrong. I called immediately and after a lengthy conversation between the order taker and the owner (which I could hear), The owner said I could drive back to the restaurant with the food and then they would replace it. Why would I do that when I just paid a delivery service to deliver my food? And why would they sit and argue with me and with each other about the order. Terrible service! On top of that the part of the order that was right was supposed to have Chinese vegetables. That consisted of mostly onion and cabbage. Definitely not worth the money or the effort! read more

One star because it won't let me rate lower. The staff is polite but rarely check to see how the meals turned out. Maybe it's because they know the food is mediocre at best. During our meal we were serenaded by the obnoxious ramblings of a local bragging how he "crashed up" his new car before making a payment. I get that it can be quiet in this restaurant and everyone can hear every other persons conversations but I draw the line when a guest of the restaurant joined our party and crawled over my silverware. Tried to call them for a takeout order, and it rang and rang and no one ever picked up. thought maybe they were closed today, but they were open when i drove by, so decided to walk in to place my take out. when i go in, place is completely empty, i tell them i tried to call and didn't get an answer, guy didn't seem to care much. so i placed my order for sesame chicken, which on their TAKE OUT MENU says comes with pork fried rice and soup, but they told me that soup doesn't come with take out orders. Even though their menu says it does. I got pissed and walked out, went across the street to a different chinese place that also says soup comes with order, and lo and behold, that different restaurant didn't lie. I won't be going back, and i was a regular there ordering something at least once a week, many times going for dinner and ordering 30+ bucks worth of sushi. How this place is still in business is beyond me. After waiting a year to come back from my last review I decided to try this place again. WOW this time takes the cake. It was awful I mean inedible bad. Once again we ordered the Padthai and Panang Currie. The padthai was at least edible but was basically white with very little sauce, but the Currie was completely inedible and had to be thrown out. It did not even taste like currie, it had a curdled taste like sour milk with that tangy taste to it. But not even close to what it should taste like. We had to throw it out after trying our best to eat some of it. Both my wife and me have now had a stomach ache going on our 3rd day. Mine has subsided but my wife still is having problems.
