I went here for a quick grub before the movie. Banh Mi Bar was the perfect spot for cheap healthy lunch and I would never get sick of eating Banh Mi. I wasn't too sure whether to get a Banhmi itself or a combo and combo was the best decision I made! I had Chicken Banhmi Combo ($11 mango pudding included) and it was totally worth it. Banh Mi was slightly small than what I expected, but this Lemongrass Chicken Banhmi was packed with flavours. My baguette was fresh and crunchy. Meat had a mix of curry and lemongrass flavour it was tender as well. Iced coffee was delicious. I'm obsessed with Ca Phe Sua Da that it's one of my favourite summer drink. Mango Pudding was great. It tasted fruity and sweet. I better go back to try other Banh Mi sandwiches one day. Make sure you get loyalty card for a free sandwich. I recommend getting a takeout due to limited seats.

Surprisingly good banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) place in the middle of nowhere New Westminster. Parking here is really weird. Not many free spots during the day, but the place closes very early, before spots free up. Definitely not good for drivers. The inside is very bare, like a food court. Not sure if it's always like this, but the place was also really really humid inside. So much so that the glass was all fogged up. The place is also really small, with some 5 seats inside against the front window. This is obviously a takeout place. Staff (mom and pop?) are friendly and efficient. Sandwiches are in the $5 range, which is reasonable. Food is excellent. The sandwich was spicy and hit the spot, and the iced coffee (Vietnamese style) is just like the real deal. Definitely will be back at this place if I can find parking. Recommended.

Hands down the best banh mi in New Westminster and probably in Metro Vancouver. The banh mi comes very close to those I had in Vietnam. The baguette is very similar - crusty outside and airy soft inside. This means you will be hungry a few hours later. I always get the house special which is so good, but it will be even better if it has the same mystery meat and pate as served in the banh mi in Ho Chi Minh. I like to add the hot sauce and hoisin sauce to give it a bit of oomph. And get the Vietnamese coffee too. It is so good. Prices are still reasonable as they stay under $10 for the banh mi and coffee. Affordable meal in the New West area. I hope it remains the same. It has a small bar counter for dining it. Otherwise get it to go. But if you do, eat it fast as it will be a bit soggy after a few hours. The owners are lovely and very accommodating and friendly too. Great addition to the Carnavon Street in downtown New West which is becoming a food hub.

Great Banh mi sandwiches and friendly service. I've been wanting to try this place, I think a tried a couple of times and it was closed. Today was meant to be. I just finished a workout and needed to grab lunch. They opened at 10am. I walked in and they had a bit of a line, most for take out. I decided to eat in. They have a handful of seating. I ordered a house special. The baguette was perfect, the meat and pickled veggies was great and with a kick from the jalapeño. Overall, I was pretty satisfied. I cant wait to come back and try other types of sandwiches. They also have salad rolls and desserts.

We were in the area and decided to stop by this small store for lunch. I ordered my favourite sandwich which was the house special. My date ordered the lemongrass chicken and iced Vietnamese coffee. We finished off the meal with mango pudding and taro and banana tapioca coconut milk dessert. Service was fast. My house special sandwich was loaded with a good amount of filling. I would have liked some slices of jalapeño. The taro and banana tapioca coconut milk dessert was alright. I do think banana made it more interesting. There were a couple large pieces of taro and a few slices of banana mixed in with tapioca and coconut milk. The mango pudding was average. If you want to eat the mango pudding with your meal, I suggest ordering a combo (includes drink, sandwich and mango pudding). When we decided to get dessert here after finishing our sandwiches, I noticed the combo options and you save a little bit of money. They accept credit card payment which is always convenient. Paid street parking in front of store. There is stool seating along the storefront. If you like banh mi sandwiches then this is worth a visit if you are in the area.

    House special! Soooo good!

This is a hidden gem for sure!!! I have had authentic banh mi sandwiches and these were phenomenal! The bread was perfectly crisped on the outside, soft on the inside and was packed full of flavor. It's a great sandwich at a great price!! I'll definitely be going back again and would highly recommend you stop in!

Petite restaurant with delicious banh mi sandwiches! They noticed I was taking a while deciding and recommended me the house special. I was really craving pudding so I got the combo (house special + pop/water + pudding). Within the span of my meal, I noticed a good number of regular customers. Seems to be a nice place to go to if there are regulars from the neighborhood. And let me tell you this, it did not disappoint me. The house special was delectable and I was able to eat the cucumbers! They have their tastes and textures on point. Toasty warm and the bread wasn't overly crusty. The pudding was worth the go as well. I love the mango pudding! Helpful and nice staff, I recommend trying this out! And did I mention they have a stamp card too?

My favourite quick dinner when I am too lazy to cook. The sandwiches are tasty and the baguette is top notch. The owners are super friendly and charming! I never regret a banh mi!

Since then though we've heard a few people say positive things about it so...we decided it was time to give it another try. Came here as a group of 5, and it was a last minute decision as we had originally planned to eat elsewhere but that place turned out to be closed on Sundays. With no reservation on a Sunday, we were asked to wait about 10 minutes. Not too bad of a wait, compared with another Vietnamese place that we'd driven by earlier which had a lineup out the door. A couple of people in our group had fried eggs on their dishes. The eggs looked good. Soft yolks and soft yolk is what I like to see. There was a Papaya salad that we shared amongst the table. This was OK for me. Wasn't thrilled with it. I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu on Vermicelli. I love that this restaurant gives the option of having it on Vermicelli. I'd been somewhere else earlier this year which also had Lemongrass Tofu but it was only served on rice, with no option of switching to Vermicelli. The Lemongrass flavor was strong. Very flavorful. Something in the dish though was quite spicy. It seemed a lot of other dishes on the table were also quite spicy. Hubby's Bun Bo Hue was extremely spicy but he still enjoyed the dish very much. My daughter and I both ordered the Sober Sunday drink which had Lychee, Kumquat and Lemon Juice. The drink was OK. Nothing to write home about. Our daughter just ordered the Tapioca Dumplings appetizer and then took bits and pieces from other people's orders. A spring roll and a couple pieces of Lemongrass Tofu from me, some beef and noodle from her dad...etc. The dumplings looked tasty. They looked like something I'd have ordered myself if I were still a meat eater. Overall, the food here is flavorful. It was a much better experience this time than the first time we came here. Personally though, I'd prefer them to tone down the spice or even eliminate the spice altogether. I don't like having to wipe my nose all the time because of having eaten something spicy, or having my lips burn.

But the prawns were overcooked the salted egg yolks taste was barely there. And there were only 6 pieces of the shrimp. We also ordered the special crab soup. This dish was just ok for me. This place was a miss for me the food is not worth going back for.

Anyways, passing by and noticed a new Pho 99 took over a previous pho on the corner of 12th and 8th. The thing with all the Pho 99 places is it's a hit and miss, it's like one of those kindred eggs, you never know what surprise awaits you. I could see only a minimal renovation was done but everything was clean and still looking fresh with a few tables at the front and booth seats all along the window side. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Deep fried chicken wings. The wings looked plump with a nice colour all around plus they were individually seasoned! As good as they looked, they were also tasty and juicy! Very nice! 2. House special pho (#17). The soup was very hot, good start. There were generous amount of meat and were fresh. Glad the meats and tendons were tender too! Some might not like the little oil on the broth but I enjoy a bit of natural oil from the soup, it assures me that the broth were make from scratch. This is a nice little addition to the New West area and I would say it's one of the better Pho 99 I have been to so far in terms of quality and service. The food here was quite decent with a reasonable price. They also added a few new items to the menu. The service here was quite good and friendly. I would say my go to place for a hot bowl of pho if I am in the New West area.
