    Pho garnish

We stopped by over the weekend for lunch as we were in the area. Right away, tea was served for myself and my husband. Cold water was served to our toddler. A high chair was offered. I was impressed at the acknowledge of younger children as customers too. After looking over the menu, we ordered a number of items. We ordered deep fried spring rolls, chicken wings, house special pho, lemon grass beef and fried egg on rice, and lastly, an iced Vietnamese coffee. Food arrived fairly quickly. The spring rolls were amazing and made with the rice paper wrapper that I prefer. I like the airy and crispy crunch of the rice wrapper. The filling was seasoned well. The chicken wings were also good. I would have liked a lemon and black pepper dip for the chicken wings and it would have been the perfect combination. I ordered the lemongrass beef and fried egg on rice as my main. The beef was a tad chewy. I would order chicken or pork next time. I took a sip of the pho and it was a light broth. There could have been more toppings, but I understand food costs are high. There was only one beef ball slice in the pho. I also took a sip of the Vietnamese iced coffee and it was a bit on the weaker side. I have had better elsewhere. Restaurant was clean, tidy and child friendly. We were offered a separate bowl and cutlery for our toddler. Service was efficient. Restroom was spacious. I recommend stopping by this restaurant if you are in the area and craving for some good Vietnamese food.

I was in the area to pickup something and have about 45minutes before meeting up with my customer and saw this restaurant. A quick pho should be okay. This pace is located on the corner of the plaza and across from Starbucks. There were plenty of parking in the plaza so that was good. Walked in and sat down, the place was pretty small with about 8 to 10 tables, very clean and simple with a very casual ambience. The menu was of decent size with pho, appetizers, and rice dishes. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk. Came with all the slow dripping gears but it dripped and ready to drink within about a minute, oh oh! Yes, it was pretty watery. 2. House special pho. The soup was hot but the broth was a little on the weaker side, the amount of meat was quite lacking. Almost like ordering a small size at your typical pho place. There was only one price and one size, $14.75, definitely not enough meat cause most of the time I complaint too much meat and when I say lacking, I can imagine most people will not be too happy with it. I can safely say there are not many pho restaurants down by the Columbia street area of New West survived over the years; therefore, trying to stop that trend, it has to be pretty spot on to stand a chance. With that being said, some adjustments are definitely needed for this place to stand a chance. My simple meal; $24 for a small bowl of pho that was lacking ingredients with a watery coffee plus tip, it's going to be a hard sell in this area of town from my business experience. I wish this place much luck and success!! If I were to be nice and generous, 2.5 stars?

Great tasty food! Will come back. The place is low key but behind that humble front they make some seriously tasty food.

When it's busy, you need to be patient as it's only one person doing everything out front. I have tried two dishes here. The house pho was good and it was the most beautifully plated rare beef on the side. The lemongrass chicken with rice was decent too. I did like the banana coconut dessert which came with the lunch special. It was not overly sweet and was the perfect portion to round the meal. I didn't like that they charged $0.50 for the take out container which was not stated anywhere. They didn't tell me about the charge before hand too. Street parking is available. The rear parking has only two spots allocated to the restaurant.

Anyways, passing by and noticed a new Pho 99 took over a previous pho on the corner of 12th and 8th. The thing with all the Pho 99 places is it's a hit and miss, it's like one of those kindred eggs, you never know what surprise awaits you. I could see only a minimal renovation was done but everything was clean and still looking fresh with a few tables at the front and booth seats all along the window side. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Deep fried chicken wings. The wings looked plump with a nice colour all around plus they were individually seasoned! As good as they looked, they were also tasty and juicy! Very nice! 2. House special pho (#17). The soup was very hot, good start. There were generous amount of meat and were fresh. Glad the meats and tendons were tender too! Some might not like the little oil on the broth but I enjoy a bit of natural oil from the soup, it assures me that the broth were make from scratch. This is a nice little addition to the New West area and I would say it's one of the better Pho 99 I have been to so far in terms of quality and service. The food here was quite decent with a reasonable price. They also added a few new items to the menu. The service here was quite good and friendly. I would say my go to place for a hot bowl of pho if I am in the New West area.
