    Bao Boys Food Truck
    Amanda P.

This place is so fun & it's definitely a hidden gem! It's located on Packard behind the York, so it can be easily missed. You need to go down the side, road and around back and you will see the food truck. There are a ton of different places to sit some shaded some in the sun so you can take your pick. The service was super quick under five minutes. The vibe is really fun and really good pricing too! See the menu pic I provided. The green sauce which I think is mostly cilantro, was absolutely delicious. I could put that on anything. The Bao buns were pillowy and soft. The meat plenty and spicy. Cabbage slaw crunchy and with a perfect pop of acidity. A new staple for me. To work a bit, some people were on laptops. I don't know if they were on Wi-Fi or had their own stuff, or to read a book or visit with a friend. I crowded places here. Airy and colorful with yummy smells. Def a must!

We ate outside on a 50 degree December weather.

We did a shopping day in Ann Arbor and stopped here for lunch. The naps are so good! I had the last shorty which is made with short rib, and a mushroom one. My daughter had the chicken/apple and a pork one. All excellent. We will be back for sure. Picked up drinks at York next door, the cappuccino was very good.

Need more places like this ! Good Prices for really High Quality Food. Definitely recommend the shorty !

Delicious Bao with fresh ingredients! The Bao had a hearty amount of meat and sauce, something I've noticed other Bao places tend to use sparingly. Overall, the Bao was flavorful and held its texture really well even with all of the toppings, soft, springy and tasty on its own. I will definitely be back when I swing back in town.

If you are looking for your next obsession, you have to try Bao Boys buns. The slow roasted pork belly will have you groaning at the first bite. Melt-in-your-mouth tender pork with a slight sweet glaze in a pillow-y soft bun, topped with some whatnot that I would sell my last born for - she's worth the trade, trust me. Don't pass up the mushroom bun or the short ribs. Just amazing! Try something new and get a pile of buns to try them all. The seating area are casual tables with fire pits when it's cold. Fans when it's hot. Music on the weekend evenings and other dining options in the York yard. Sheesh now I want to visit tonight!

I've been wanting to checkout Bao Boys since I saw them on IG and finally went yesterday. The baos were delicious and definitely worth the visit. Each one was packed with a lot of meat and flavor. The loaded fries were also great! I appreciate the service and that they did allow me to make a few adjustments by excluding the cilantro. The food truck is located in a very vibrant unassuming outdoors area behind some other restaurants and stores.

Fewer choices at the end of the night.

Let's start with the good. Bao Boys makes some tasty snacks. There is no arguing that. The combinations of flavors and contrast of textures makes these things a lot of fun to eat. And it's a great treat to have available in the York Yard if you are feeling a little peckish. You can even order straight from insta once you're done posting a pic of your craft cocktail. Three bao are sold at a little bit of a discount, making it seem like the appropriate quantity for a meal. That said, I find even one to be enough to satisfy my hunger. After two I'm full. Three I feel is one too many, but I can't eat like I used to in my youth. With fatty meats, creamy sauces, and some fried components, these are more nutritionally dense than they may appear. Perhaps that helps to justify the cost of $5 per bao. I recognize that nobody is getting rich off the Bao Boys food truck. Good food costs money, and I am happy to splurge for culinary treats. What would make Bao Boys special is if they actually made their own bao. Instead, they warm up store bought ones to fill with their clever mixtures of meats, vegetables, and sauces. In Beijing, inside spaces as small as a trailer, cooks are able to crank out fresh steamed bao to sell out their windows. This feels like going to a truck called Tortilla Town, to buy $5 tacos only to find they were using industrially produced tortillas, when you have had equally good tacos for less served on fresh handmade tortillas elsewhere. If a main ingredient is the name of your business, and you are charging a premium for your product, I expect more. Of course, I'm old and grumpy about such things. Could you imagine a biscuit and chicken wing place that sold store bought biscuits? For those who can look beyond this, Bao Boys is sure to be a pleasure.

I absolutely love Bao Boys! You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu - the real issue is that I can't order everything! The Shroomy Bao and the chashu bao are probably my favorites. The shroomy is like flavor OVERLOAD! And the pork on the chashu is super tender and deliciously crispy! Such great flavor, textures and spice! Such a delight to eat with the warm, fluffy bao! The Don-belly Bowl is also delicious to have alongside the bao. It's also extremely great value and quality for the price! The bao look small but with all their delicious flavors and ingredients are actually pretty filling - for less than the price of a local coffee! If you have more of an appetite, an order of 3 is the way to go - and that way you get to try out a few different ones! My partner and I usually share an order of three and the Don-Belly bowl and that is plenty! Service is always great and it's super easy and convenient to order for pick up. Definitely a frequent go-to!

This place has been on my to-try list for the longest time. I have been missing out!! This food truck specializes in fusion, savory Asian food. Their flagship menu item is the shorty bao, which is a bao bun stuffed with Korean-inspired, saucy and flavorful braised short rib. We also tried the baos stuffed with gochujang-flavored pork and chicken apple sausage. The loaded fries were also very delicious. These were topped with scallions and braised short ribs. Service was fast and friendly. The weather was beautiful - we sat at one of the picnic tables outside. Snagged a mimosa from York next door to complete my meal with. Delicious. Will definitely. E back here again!

I have to say the Baos here are pretty good. The selections are creative and meat (pork belly) is very tender. I'd recommend getting the spicy pork bao - has the kick and the crispy texture.

I was impressed. My wife brought me home two baos at my request: one char siu, one shorty. The char siu bao was really great. Specifically, the pork belly was perfectly fatty and tender, with just enough creamy sauce to accentuate it, and a soft, mildly sweet bun that provided enough bread without making the bao excessively dry or doughy. The pickles in the bao were not a welcome addition, and felt out of place. The shorty bao, while not quite as good, was still a markedly positive flavor experience. The shredded beef was tender and savory. I though the green, chimichurri-style sauce on top was a bit of an odd choice. All in all, for the food alone, it would be near 5 stars for food truck fare. However, it takes a hit on value points. $10 for two bao got me no where close to full. Regardless, this is among the better Asian-inspired food I've had in Ann Arbor, and I'll probably be back.

LA represent in mitt! I've had bao like these in: arguably the OG (my parents' motherland Taiwan) as well as at veritable establishments like Momofuku, Ippudo AND local spots like Miss Kim's. So there's a complexity here, but at the end of the day, what I ask myself is "DID IT TASTE GOOD?" Answer: heckin' yes. Per my usual, I literally ordered the entire menu. They didn't have the curry available, so in my defense...it was really only 6 items! In order of preference - please note that there is not a bad one/flavor! The fluffy white bun is pretty legit too. No complaints, so I'm focusing on the filling in the below: *Shorty (Korean Braised Chuck Short Rib, Vinegar Slaw, Special Green Sauce, Cilantro, Sesame) - the braise was perfection and the green sauce & cilantro added that pop up freshness & creaminess. *Musubi (Charred Spam, Grilled Kimchi, Seaweed Sheet, Teriyaki Glaze) - It's probs unpopular that this one is #2 for me but I LOVE spam musubi and I haven't been able to find it here in A2 (I know it's not hard to make, but still), this brings me back to the shores of Hawai'i. Ono. *Chashu (Braised Charred & Glazed Pork Belly, Mayo and Pickle) - REALLY nicely rendered. super tender with all the right crisp. *Spicy Pork (Gochujang-marinated pork should, vinegar slaw, onion crisps, mayo) - Loved the texture on this one. I'm just not a huge gochujang fan, but if you're looking for something super flavorful - get it! This flavor was in my partner's top 2! *Chicken Apple (Chicken Apple Sausage, Vinegar Slaw, Grilled Onion, Cilantro, Spicy Mayo) - It's tasty. I just personally find it a lil' sacrilegious to stick chicken sausage in these buns. Not even lapcheong, c'mon! Haha. But, real talk - this is probably widely appealing for a picky eater but still complex enough for your food-forward folks to enjoy. YOU MUST save room/get the Don-Belly (chashu pork belly, japanese style poached egg, dashi broth, green onion, served over steamed rice). It's been SO long so I've had a donburi and this hit the spot. So comforting & delicious!!! Lovin' the outdoor seating right now (in the pandemic & in the great summer MI weather!)

    (1) check this place out! (2) you can't go wrong with ANY Baos They are filling, despite it looking small. If you want to eat and be full, I'd recommend 3. It comes to about $15 which is pretty solid for a full, delicious entree. Every bao was so unique and different from the next. I really enjoyed my experience here, and I can't wait to come back.

The selection is not extensive but the basics are here including BBQ. Side dishes are decent, Kimchi, which is fundamental to any Korean meal and varies by region, is always included and people have strong opinions about. Theirs is OK but not top notch. Other side dishes are decent. Whatever we ordered, BBQ, Yuk Gae Jang, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (Rice. We used to go almost exclusively to Seoul Garden near the mall off Boardwalk but after ownership change stopped as the taste changed significantly and not for the better. Its nice to have The Seoul is an option. They have beer and soju (Ubiquitous Korean liquor in Korea that along with Kimchi is many Koreans blood) Environment of the restaurant is modern but still a bit cozy. Overall, definitely worth a try. While we are at it, I have spent allot of time in Japan on business (some vacationing too) and I know it's trendy to go there now especially with the exchange rate, and by all means go, allot to see and experience (and eat!) there. But don't overlook Korea. The two countries have a torrid history and don't want to admit they are similar in many ways....but they are and Korea is loaded with great places to go and food to eat. Traveling can be done on any budget, feel free to reach out if you want to learn more. Also love to hear from experienced travelers, love to learn of new places and things to do.

Our server was super patient and helpful with navigating the menu. The food came out quickly and everything was pretty tasty - I loved the mandoo (dumplings) - they were big and filled nicely. The nengmyun was good, not the best version of this dish that I've had, but it's hard to find in my city so I was happy to have theirs. I loved the spicy pork bulgogi; super flavorful and not too spicy. Nate got the sundubu stew which was delicious and quite spicy! The portions were large, especially for the price. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.

It makes a great meal on it's own, to split, or to enjoy a bit alongside some of the chicken wings (my go to approach). Perfect for a couple of meals! My husband recently started going for the bulgogi bento box which he also loves. It's a hearty portion of bulgogi and white rice with a side salad with ginger dressing and two fried dumplings. He can usually score two meals out of that one, too! A lot of bang for your buck!

Tried Hola Seoul thanks to Yelper Tina H! She picked up kimbap and wings for us to try…read more * kimbap - love spam and their kimbap was super fresh, tasty! Would get this again and good to know there's a local place (that's not Trader Joe's ha) that carries it! * Korean fried chicken - 2x fried for extra crunch helped keep this crispy even when not eating fresh and in a container! Pretty tasty soy garlic as well as spicy. Love that it came with pickled radish yum. I'll have to stop in to try it fresh to really get a sense how it compares to places like Bonchon!

Korean-Marinated Ribeye (5/5): Very generous portion of meat that was tender and nicely grilled…read more The crispy rice was fantastic and the veggies paired nicely with the meat. Definitely my go-to entree. Thai-Style Calamari (5/5): One of THE main reasons I love Pacific Rim so much. This is the best calamari appetizer I've had. Lightly breaded and fresh. The sweet chili sauce is perfect. Thai Peanut Noodles (4/5): The noodles had great texture and the Thai peanut sauce was delicious. The tofu wasn't really crispy and I personally would've loved the option to add some meat. Lamb Dumpling (4/5): Lots of meat in the filling and didn't taste gamy at all. Limited time special. Shrimp Shumai (4/5): Really enjoyed the wonton wrapper. Shrimp flavor came through nicely. Limited time special. House Salad (4/5): Light and fresh. The soy based dressing was sweet, slightly acidic, and not at all overpowering. Warm Chocolate Cake (4/5): Delicious cake with a warm, gooey inside. I personally don't like coconut or chocolate and fruit desserts, but I still enjoyed this a lot. Creme Brulee Tasting (4/5) : Green tea, pumpkin spice, and ginger creme brulees. Loved getting to try a little bit of each flavor (green tea was my favorite). Spiced Caramel Pear (3/5): Not my favorite since I don't generally like cooked fruit. The mascarpone cream and shortbread were good though. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)
